I'm still processing all that shit that happened when I arrived and when the fog rolled in. This place is a god damn mess, right? We're batteries for some assholes and they can't even keep things under control. Never mind, that'll just keep pissing me off if I talk about it.

[He even takes a breath before going right back into another ramble.]

Why I'm really calling is to play with this phone. I mean look at it, it's pretty amazing. I wonder who all played a part in it. I'd love to say I'd come up with something like this but it's a bit ahead of me right now. If anyone can help explain some of the stuff I don't get about it, let me know.

Oh, yeah, and also. I'm calling out to whoever is in the Guard. That means if you can see this get back to me. Now that we have a moment to breathe I'd like to know if you're the real thing or just another problem I'm going to have to worry about. I hope you are the real thing, I have enough people to keep an eye on already and it hasn't even been a month.

They looked alright but I've never heard of them so I'm not going to assume they play nice. As for the phone. I'd love to take it apart to see how it ticks but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to put it back together again.

You probably wouldn't learn all that much taking it apart since I think Hope runs them by magic. But taking apart a normal smartphone probably still wouldn't tell you much unless you're familiar with computers. They're kind of complicated but don't have a lot of moving parts.

Magic? Great. More of this magic bullshit. And I'm kind of disappointed. Seriously. Who makes something like this and doesn't even try to show you how it works?

Well I mean I know how they work? Sort of anyway. But if you took one apart and aren't used to the tech it'd just look like a bunch of metal with some designs on parts of it. Here I don't think Hope cares too much about us knowing how they work but at home they do have huge conferences where they explain new technology.

That sounds like an interesting time to live. I've got to admit that I only understood chunks of your writing so far but that tells me how far behind the curve I am. I'd have as much luck explaining colored silk to a dog as you would these phones to me I take it.

I like talking about tech stuff so anything you want to know I'm willing to give a shot at explaining, colored silk analogy or not.

So, how do the buttons know I'm touching them. It can't be so sensitive that it's pressure activated, right? I can't get a stick to work on it. And that'd just break too easily. You'd be calibrating it all the time.

Some touchscreens are pressure-sensitive but not the kind used in the phones that the devices here are like. Those measure the electric current in your finger or whatever you're touching the screen with, which is why the stick won't work. Same thing with your fingernails most of the time, or if you try to use the phone wearing gloves.
