Text Notification/Report #1
Attention: Hadriel Residents
Subject: Additional Phone Applications
Please find attached two additional applications for the phones:
[1] Clock. I have spent the last 26 days timing the light intensify and de-intensify periods. Despite the imprecision of my tools (and the impediment of the fog for that period), I am 92.58% confident that the current settings are accurate. I observed 17 hours of light, 7 of dark. The light intensifies and de-intensifies at apparently the same time each day. The days are not getting longer or shorter, which is perhaps unsurprising, given the light does not imitate the movements of the/a sun. As such, I have set the clock such that light intensify ('sunrise') begins at 04:30 and light de-intensify ('sunset') begins at 21:30. I will continue to monitor and make updates as necessary.
Other features: Timer, Stopwatch, Alarm.
[2] Pedometer. The hardware of these phones contains composite sensors enabling step detection and counting, as reliant on the accelerometer. This 'app' when active will do as its title suggests: count your steps. It will also calculate distance traveled. That feature has been less accurate in testing, but suffices for an approximation. You may reset and/or save a record of both as you like. If you download the clock, it will reset each day at 00:00 and keep a record of the previous day's activity, with the number of days stored theoretically limitless.
Both applications permit user choice between constant background service and activity on selection alone. Obviously I recommend the former for the clock in particular, but it will sync via the network upon opening should you choose the latter and close then open it.
Final notes: If you have no use for either or both, then do not download them. There is no need to comment to that effect.
Admittedly, the daily reset and recording of steps and distance may be especially frivolous. I doubt any of you are on a fitness track. I added it because such applications tend to have that feature and for organization's sake. You may also turn that off. If for whatever daft reason you want that, but not the clock, too bad. I could do it, but at that point, you might as well download the clock.
Please do comment if you have any serious suggestions.

You are welcome, Mr. Cho, though if it can be useful there, that would be thanks enough.
TEXT
But yes. Were you thinking of any other "apps" to add to these? I've never used this kind of technology before, so I don't know how much they're capable of.
PERMATEXT
I am currently working on a compass and I've been discussing a guide app with Miss Maketh.
This model seems to be from the early 2010's. I specify because my year was 2025, and we'd had more impressive phones still (though resource limitation and other issues had slowed development), but even at that time, they could do quite a lot. There were a variety of social networking apps for different purposes and community, food and location guides and ordering apps, informational / educational apps, many games, streaming media such as television and music apps, storing such to watch or listen to, apps that enable storing and reading books digitally, apps that enable direct purchases from certain stores, note taking apps, organizational apps, instrument and tuning apps, navigation apps, etc.

That would also be useful. Especially in the caves if people exploring get disoriented.
In my world, we don't have portable phones like these. It's very convenient to have all of the technology rolled into one device. It must have been extremely convenient in your world to have so many services at your disposal in the palm of your hands. Though there wouldn't be much use for all of those apps here.
Would you be able to make a comprehensive guide to this world as an app? For example: Say we were to go into the garden Sorrow has provided for us, take a digital photograph of each plant, and describe its properties. Or even creating a bestiary or a list of amenities such as the bar and library, things of that nature. Could it be turned into an app so that as soon as newcomers arrive, they have all of the useful information at the touch of a screen?
no subject
In fact, that is precisely what I mean to do. Everything you've texted. Initially, I wanted to put together those of Miss Maketh's reports that she'd permit public on the network. There's only so much information in that welcoming message of Mr. Hope's. I thought we might want a history of what's occurred since the Door first opened, a list of questions asked the gods and the answers given, the guard's maps and bestiary, all that. I've been photographing the plants while testing them with Dr. Banner, too.
Ideally, it would be an app that the new arrivals would have immediate access to, but I haven't the means. The only way I can think to try to force-access a new arrival's phone, would be to attempt to code a virus for the network, something triggered when they first accessed it. If I could even do it, as I've been unable this far to access private communications (I haven't been prying; Newton and I have been testing), it seems a very bad idea to tamper with the network in that way.
In short, I suspect I'll need to ask Mr. Hope. Since he's got his message on them first thing, he's got some access to their phones upon arrival.
no subject
Hahaha. Yes. You lost me slightly with the explanation of how you could possibly access other peoples phone.
I think the easiest way would be to ask Hope. Though, I am wary of asking gods anything after my own first attempt at doing so. I would be very careful if they attempt to lead the conversation astray lest they begin unnecessarily questioning you. I do not feel comfortable relaying my conversation on the network, but please be careful.

[ By not thinking to permit the user to select a new alarm sound, for example. ]
On that note, have you a few recipes already? Newton and I had been discussing how we ought to call the fruits and vegetables, as well. He's hoping for a poll. I'm sure the results will be absurd.
Apologies. It isn't at all important, the virus idea.
Noted.
no subject
And yes. I have to cook almost constantly because of my housemates. Gojyo and one you haven't met yet named Goku. So I definitely have recipes up my sleeve. I've just been using descriptors to name the produce. I'm not all that creative with naming things. If you would like some recipes, I can send them your way. I don't mind sharing.
no subject
I've been going about it similarly. Leafy vegetable #6 and that sort of classifier. I would attempt creativity, but Newton would usurp it with something awful, and I doubt anything would catch with the populace. We ought all try to agree on terms for consistency's sake. Which may be unlikely, but as Mr. Sorrow said he'd remove anything poisonous, at least it won't be anything but inconvenient.
Please. Newton and I have tried a little experimentation, but we've been preoccupied and have tended to repeat what we discovered was agreeable.
[ Sensitive, recovering digestive systems have also made such easier and sometimes necessary. ]

If you ever wish to come over for dinner, just let me know and I'll make extra.
[He never really minds some company because he would like more intelligent conversation. Please and thank you.]
no subject
[ Caught up in work. ]
That is more generous still. If you and your housemates truly wouldn't mind. How much advance notice do you need?
no subject
But yes, bulk cooking doesn't last long here, I'm afraid. Goku can eat quite a bit.
[Understatement of the millennia]
Just give me a day and I'll make it work. I know that Goku would be excited to meet new people and Gojyo's opinion doesn't matter.
no subject
I haven't met that one. It's good there's food enough.
[ Food enough for bulk cooking. Even discussing it leaves a feeling of disconnect in his head.
Off network, he snorts. It's half a result of lingering soreness toward Mr. Sha and half recognizing the sentiment. He'd say that sort of thing about Newton, of course. ]
Why not a week? Seven days from now. Should we bring anything? Perhaps from the bar?
no subject
Yes. A week from now sounds good. If you would like to bring coffee and wine from the bar, that would be much appreciated.
You wouldn't happen to have playing cards, would you? Just out of curiosity.
no subject
I'm afraid not. Funny, that. I could likely put together a card playing application, perhaps with multiplayer functionality, easier than we could find a deck.
no subject
If you're able to create a game application, may I request Mahjongg?
no subject
I'll look into it, but I may need your assistance. I haven't played much Mahjongg.
no subject
And yes, I will gladly assist you. I miss playing.
no subject
It may not have the same appeal as an application, but we might as well have an intellectual option for those inclined. We can discuss it more over dinner.
