[ Back home Lucifer didn't even own a cell phone. For all that he was on top of all things cultural and even technological he shunned the culture of cell phones and as such he didn't bother.

Here in Hadriel he'd had one of the infernal devices foisted off on him but, aside from some trolling of his own across the network he'd never bothered with initiating a communication.

Apparently that made him a prime trolling target. Because at some point during these misfire days, a text got blasted across the network, originating from the device of one Lucifer Morningstar. ]

I'd like to purchase your soul, what do you feel is a fair market value?

[ At some point after the text went out, whether due to Lucifer noticing it himself or (more likely) as a result of someone telling him where to shove 'his' offer, the Lord of Hell's dulcet tones came across the network.

By dulcet we mean richly accented but managing to sound an odd combination of resigned and childish at the same time. ]

For the LAST time. I DO NOT buy souls! That's not how Hell works. It's like the damn goats, when I figure out where the rumor started I swear I'm going ...

[So what was going to be a post about gathering up supplies for jams and pickles and all of those wonderful things, comes out as an abomination.

[Good luck hearing anything he's saying with all of that loud rap and obnoxious airhorn noise in the back ground.

The video goes on for a horrifying five minutes as Hakkai thinks he's calmly asking the citizens of Hadriel for their help in gathering up jars and sugar to preserve some of the produce. But it's all reputation destroying and image ruining goodness.]

Attention: Hadriel Residents
Subject: Additional Phone Applications

Please find attached two additional applications for the phones:

[1] Clock. I have spent the last 26 days timing the light intensify and de-intensify periods. Despite the imprecision of my tools (and the impediment of the fog for that period), I am 92.58% confident that the current settings are accurate. I observed 17 hours of light, 7 of dark. The light intensifies and de-intensifies at apparently the same time each day. The days are not getting longer or shorter, which is perhaps unsurprising, given the light does not imitate the movements of the/a sun. As such, I have set the clock such that light intensify ('sunrise') begins at 04:30 and light de-intensify ('sunset') begins at 21:30. I will continue to monitor and make updates as necessary.
Other features: Timer, Stopwatch, Alarm.

[2] Pedometer. The hardware of these phones contains composite sensors enabling step detection and counting, as reliant on the accelerometer. This 'app' when active will do as its title suggests: count your steps. It will also calculate distance traveled. That feature has been less accurate in testing, but suffices for an approximation. You may reset and/or save a record of both as you like. If you download the clock, it will reset each day at 00:00 and keep a record of the previous day's activity, with the number of days stored theoretically limitless.

Both applications permit user choice between constant background service and activity on selection alone. Obviously I recommend the former for the clock in particular, but it will sync via the network upon opening should you choose the latter and close then open it.

Final notes: If you have no use for either or both, then do not download them. There is no need to comment to that effect.

Admittedly, the daily reset and recording of steps and distance may be especially frivolous. I doubt any of you are on a fitness track. I added it because such applications tend to have that feature and for organization's sake. You may also turn that off. If for whatever daft reason you want that, but not the clock, too bad. I could do it, but at that point, you might as well download the clock.

[It's right around three in the morning, but does Ushahin care? No. The video opens up with a tapping sound that seems to happen every couple of seconds. He's tapping the phone, unable to tell if the video is playing. He's been able to figure out text and even audio, but thus far, the video function has eluded him. Give him time.

When he's satisfied that it is indeed working, it begins to focus in. The light in the room is dim, providing barely enough illumination to see by. Considering how sensitive his left eye is to light, this isn't just for a mood enhancer. He's lying in a bathtub empty of water, fully clothed, a pillow and blankets evident.]

It's quiet again. [His voice is soft and exactly the sort one would expect to hear in the middle of the night in a dimly lit room.] Back to the usual dreams. And such strange ones you all have. So many questions and all the space of the slumbering mind in which to think them.

[He pauses and his eyes drift off to the side as if his mind has gone elsewhere. Finally, he blinks and seems to come back to where he is.] It's all just a spider's web. Snap one thread and it all can disappear.

[The video opens to view Amos perched on top of a mostly-crumbled building. He’s grinning widely, but it’s the kind of guilty grin that suggests while he finds this funny, he knows other people won’t be happy. There are several jabberjays around him, pecking at crumbs he’s scattered around on the rooftop.]

Ya’ll, I am so, so sorry. I really wasn’t thinking.

[See Amos has this bad habit of trying to teach all animals he comes across tricks, as one does with treats and too much time on one’s hands. Little things, like teaching a parrot to wolf-whistle, a dog to shake paws, a squirrel to bow...all in return for food. He’s slightly more successful at it than your average trainer, simply because he can explain the desired nonsense behavior.]

[As for the jabberjays, only two actually like him, so he’s been playing with them and teaching them small things, different phrases in different languages, a Latin prayer or two, and the occasional children’s song.]

[This was probably not the song to teach them, in retrospect.]

[Amos points at the nearest bird, and it happily starts singing in a lovely woman’s voice:

This is the song that never ends…!
Yes it goes on and on my friends!
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was!
And they’ll continue singing it forever just because…!

[The rest of the birds take up the chorus, in the different voices of the inhabitants of Hadriel, and Amos doubles over with laughter. People are going to kill him for this but Lord help him it’s hilarious. This is what he gets for having watched that singalong puppet show with the farm animals as a child….]

NOTE: Most of the birds will only repeat this once or twice, but the two that hang around Amos will repeat it back if you sing or hum it or offer them breadcrumbs.

Hey again!!!

Hope just told me that he'll be able to resurrect another god by the end of the month! I guess everyone's been sort of letting you guys pick who we get to bring back, right? That's so great for you guys! I'm glad we're doing it this way, I'd definitely hate to have to be the one to choose between my friends...

Anyway! Your three options this go-round are:

Confusion! Again... poor Confusion. She's pretty cool, actually- I don't know if you guys knew this, but she's the one who made the tunnels all around the city! I think Hope was going to try to get her to make a clinic, but since you guys seem to already have one of those up and running, I think it'd be more helpful to make what you guys have been calling a, um, GPS? She could make it so you guys could find one another, even if you're in the tunnels, and you'd be able to tell when someone is gone from this place. Super cool!

Love would be your next option! Last time Love was up, you guys got the choice of hot springs. I still think that's kind of important? Everybody loves (haha) hot springs! I could see about some nice soaps and things too if you want? Love and I aren't super tight, but there's usually a bit of overlap between love and delight so I'd super appreciate voting that way!

And last and newest is gonna be Sorrow! Sorrow is a good guy, he's the oldest of us and he takes care of us. He's really responsible... so I think he'd definitely like to bring something in that can help you guys out. Maybe a really big garden and orchard, across the river so there's more space. He'd have enough power to make sure it was big enough to feed a lot of people, so Hope wouldn't have to make so much food. Doesn't that sound nice?

Hey, listen up. I’ve got an idea.

[Evidently a very important one, judging by how soberly he’s speaking.]

Obviously we need things to do in between gettin’ set on fire and havin’ our heads messed with. So I was gonna set up a card table in the bar—could be poker, faro, anything if we can get enough players for it. If people like it, we could make it a regular thing.

If you don’t know how to play, I’ll teach you. And if anybody knows any other games, I’d like to see ‘em.

Alright. So.

[Have a slightly bedraggled wolfman looking into the camera with a cigarette in his free hand. The screen bounces slightly, and the moving background suggests he's walking as he records.]

On behalf of Maketh, I"m gonna be running some self defence classes. It's not going to be anything very flashy or impressive - there's a lot of actual warriors here, from the sounds of it, so it's not gonna be anything that complicated - but if you don't know how to do something like escape a chokehold, then. [He shrugs as he takes a drag.] Well, it might be something.

Anyone who's interested, I'll be down by the armory. Anyone who can actually fight, I'm not gonna say no to your help.

[And true to his word, he'll be found down near the armory, having a smoke and alternating between ~~brooding~~ sitting near the river, and exploring the contents of the armory.]

Tomorrow afternoon, we're hosting a class on the clinic on how to stabilize an injured person and then safely move the body, in an environment where the dead come back to life and where there's no serious expectation of sophisticated medical care.

It's going to be utilitarian and potentially grimly upsetting, but I suggest anyone with any kind of a stomach for it come to the clinic for noon. If you're conservative about touch, please bring a partner who you trust to manhandle you in body-lifting exercises. Of course you're welcome to opt out of that portion of the day, if need be.

Please bring donations of any medical supplies, if you can.

If you're new to Hadriel in the last couple of months, I'm Doctor Banner, I'm one of the clinic volunteers. I'm not technically a medical doctor, but since we lost Doctor Pierce, beggars can't be choosers. We've already covered wound care, risk of infection, and stitches and suturing. I'm happy to link you to that material, go over any of it in person, or continue stitching lessons for anyone who needs a refresher.
