At the rate these monsters arrive, before long there will be too many of them for me to effectively keep them within the caves. As such, I would appreciate it if those of you who can fight would help out your fellows by venturing into the caves and killing a few monsters. Naturally, you would be rewarded for this.

Additionally, the state of the city itself is quite poor, and I am unable to waste energy on improving it. Anyone who might wish to assist on that point will find supplies in the shops for a period of time. Any help there will not go unrewarded either.

You do not have to participate, and I have no doubt that some of you will refuse to for petty reasons, but to those who do - you have my thanks.

Like the power and the food and stuff. Yeah, I get it.

--but if that's the case, you should give the clinic better medical supplies. It probably takes less energy to give them IVs and a defibrillator than it does to bring someone back to life.

Huh? Oh, right, you're an alien or something, so I guess you wouldn't know. It's a machine you can use to start a human heart. Basically, if someone's heart stops beating while they're still alive, you use a controlled electrical shock to get it working again.

I mean....you've still got to stop the bleeding. Otherwise, they'll die anyway.

Yeah, sure. It's called a cauterization machine. Do you need me to explain how they work, too...?

--look, we are getting way off topic. We'd need a sterile operating space for the cauterization machine to be useful anyway, and on top of that, we'd need a trauma surgeon to use it, and I don't think we have one.

The stuff the clinic could actually use is bandages treated with stuff that clots blood and an x-ray machine.

[There is a pause in which he realizes that yes, he'll have to explain that, too.]

....which is a machine that gives off light on a wavelength past ultraviolet that goes through skin and muscle but not bone or metal. You put the machine on one side of an injury and a kind of paper that changes color when the light hits it on the other, and you get a picture of what a person's insides look like. It's good for figuring out how to fix broken bones or where a bullet is if someone gets shot.

Yeah, but whoever has it isn't exactly making themselves easy to find. I've got no idea who's got it and who doesn't, so if I get hurt, I'm not going to look for someone with magic, I'm going to go to the clinic.

I guess you could just give the clinic staff blessings, but...

...look, where I come from, becoming a doctor isn't easy. It takes a lot of time and a lot of work to get good enough at it to do it right. The people who volunteer at the clinic want to use what they can do to help people. Otherwise, they wouldn't be doing it for free like that. They don't need to rely on your powers, and I don't think they'd want to. They'd just do a better job with better tools.

[He takes a breath.]

What would I have to trade? For bandages treated with anticoagulants, or for an x-ray machine?

...hopeful memories...?

So, what, I just talk to you about five times I felt hopeful? Is that it?

Oh, I get it now.

Okay.

[He thinks. Most of his own hopeful memories have to do with his powers and things he did as a shinigami.]

Do I have to be specific? How many details do you need?
