[Chris smiles and gives a small wave at the camera when the feed starts, then turns his hand to show Hope's blessing on the back of it.]

So uh, who else got one? And are they all from Hope, or...?

[This is so cool you guys he wants to see who else got what. And for something else slightly less important by still cool--]

Oh, also, my iPhone was up and working for a bit thanks to Pell, and I managed to get some music off it. I'll share on the condition no one makes fun of my taste.

[The last comment is a joke--he's really not going to be too hurt by jabs about his choice in music--but the offer is serious, and attached is a download of the music he's copied off so far. It's kind of a slow process, so there's still more on the phone that he can transfer later.]

I dunno, you think I could pull one off?

[He goes along with the teasing, unbothered, and pointedly ignores that his hair is getting long enough again that it probably could be hairclipped. Time for another improv haircut, though those thoughts are immediate shoved out of his mind by cookies.]

Well, I uh... May or may not've scored some hot chocolate mix I could be persuaded to share if so.

[Of course he was planning to share it anyway, and he knows Hannah's the same about the cookies, so it all works out.]

Fun and Safety would've been voted in like, six months ago if so. That'd be pretty great.

[Yeah don't mention Love to anyone if just for the fact that Chris doesn't want to be subjected to another of Emily's hot springs rants.]

Maybe. We'll see.

[ She would make a comment about longer hair being better for that, but... it does seem like his hair's a little longer than when she last saw him. ]

Oh! Well, then. [ Hannah grins, trying to look nonchalant, but giving it away with a giggle. ] I guess we'll just have to make due and share.

[ She wants to get her hands on that hot chocolate, okay? ]

I can't believe they let us vote about who comes back alive. That's... unexpected.

[ Why'd they vote for Fear, then, she wonders (not knowing that they'd had no say in Fear's appearance). ]

I had a feeling you might say that.

[Cookies and hot chocolate are a pretty even trade sharing-wise, as far as he's concerned. Though he's also considering the potential uses of hot chocolate mix for making mochas; maybe he can convince Delight to add that into the deal, now that he thinks about it.]

Uh, yeah. And kind of creepy. I mean, at least Hope'll get to them all eventually, but...

[Voting on who gets to live feels really wrong for a few different reasons.]

"At least?" [ Hannah questions lightly. ] Do we... I mean, is it good if they're all back? It's not like they're really... all friendly, right?

[ Not from what she's heard, anyway. ]

They don't really protect us from the monsters, or anything...

Well, Hope does, but... Yeah, they're um, not all friendly.

[He hesitates, but tries to continue casually enough that she won't think anything about it.]

It's just, I dunno. It seems wrong to pick who gets to live, you know? Even if they might be total dicks when they get brought back.

Yeah. [ Who are they to play god with the gods, anyway? ] But they're not all bad, right? [ She presses. ] Hope and Delight seem okay.

[ Like he'd said. ]

I still don't get why they let us decide at all. [ Hannah mumbles thoughtfully. ]

Yeah, they're definitely both okay. At least so far.

[Who knows what might happen, but at this point he pretty much trusts they don't mean any of the people here any harm.]

I think that um, since Hope is the one that brings them back, he lets us choose so we have some sort of say in how things go and are less upset about whatever they do. I guess.

[That sounds like Hope-logic.]

Now you sound ominous. [ Hannah points out, brows lifting. ]

We'll always have something to be upset about, though, right? [ She says lightly, with a lopsided smile. ] The people here seem really... um, outspoken.

[ To put it that way. ]

[He grins a little.]

But I didn't even do the voice.

[The spooky ominous voice. Which is neither spooky nor ominous from him, but he gets points for trying, right?

And although he next comment could be taken a little more seriously, the delicate way she puts it is too amusing to make his smile fade.]

That's uh, one way to put it, yeah. Some people are just determined to be mad at the gods no matter what.

So do it! [ She pushes, laughing a little. Chris is famous (or something) for that very scary voice, after all. ]

I get it, I think. If they were taken away from their homes, and they're stuck here, in danger... and maybe alone.

[ Really, she's just so grateful to be with all her friends, even considering the tenuous circumstances. ]

I'd be mad, too.

Okay, uh, let me think of something scary to say... How's this?

[A pause for effect, and then in an overly lame and so not spooky tone--]

There's nooOOoooOO piiiiIIIIiiizza heeeeeere.

[And that's pretty damn scary. He's more serious when he responds to her next comment though.]

Yeah, I get it. Really. I mean, some of things they've done were um... Really bad, but like... Not all of them are responsible for doing the bad shit to us. So like, I get not being super fond of any of them on principle, but some people just take it super far when it comes to Delight and Hope.

[ Hannah actually laughs, warm and genuine, though she tries to look more afraid than amused. ]

That is scary. Wow, I didn't realize... How are we going to survive without it?

[ Seriously, though. No pizza?? This place really is a nightmare. ]

Aren't those the nicer ones? [ Hannah asks, quirking a brow. ] I feel like... you would hate the other ones more. The bad emotions. Maybe that's just me?

[He smiles when she laughs, then affects a look of long-suffering.]

It's been misery here, Hannah, but somehow we're just holding on, you know? I know it sounds bad, but you can do it.

[It truly is; pizza would've made even the worst events a lot more bearable.]

Uh, no, that definitely makes sense; I don't get it, exactly. I mean, even if people are just hating them all evenly it's still kind of unwarranted.

Hey, if you can be that brave, then I've got to try.

[ In the name of pizza! And Wifi!! ]

What do you think of... Fear? [ She asks, lowering her voice a bit. ] Isn't he the one who brings in the monsters?

[ That seems to warrant a little hate, if it's true. ]

I believe in you.

[Said with just the right amount of drama. He goes quieter at her question though, not sure how to answer right away; it's kind of... Complicated.]

I don't know. I mean, talking to him is usually fine and he answers questions and whatever, but he's also responsible for some of the monsters and um, a lot of the worst events. So... Yeah, I mean, I definitely understand hating him.

[Although Chris can't say he feels the same way, mostly because it seems like a waste of energy.]

It's interesting though, right? [ She prompts thoughtfully, frowning. ] They might not be... 'good' or 'evil.' If they're just trying to gather energy, maybe that's just what they are. The monsters and stuff suck for us, and they're terrible, but how else would he gather fear from us, right?

[ There's a pause. ]

That sounded less stupid in my head.

No, um, it's not stupid. I think you're actually totally right.

[It's pretty obvious--to Chris anyway--that the gods don't work like people do. And that makes sense, right? They're not people.]

I-I mean, if Fear was trying to be awful to us just because it was fun and not because he needed to, he'd be uh... A lot different to talk to, I think. He's actually weirdly nice.

[Which is kind of creepy on its own, but whatever.]

And... Yeah. It's not like gathering fear from us is optional for him or whatever, I don't think. They all um, seem to actually need it, like we have to eat and whatever.

It's just bad because it can hurt us. [ Physically and emotionally, apparently. ] But this still seems more like a symbiotic relationship than anything. Some of them are feeding us and giving us other good stuff.

[ It isn't all bad, despite what a lot of the others would have them believe. ]

The thing I really worry about is... what killed them. [ Hannah admits quietly. ] I mean, something that killed a bunch of gods? It's gotta be powerful.

Yeah, exactly. Hope and Delight get a lot more out of us, you know, being hopeful and not depressed.

[Obviously.]

Um... Yeah. That's uh, definitely something to worry about, though no one who's asked has really gotten any answers.

[Which sucks, because they really deserve to know and it's definitely worrying, but Chris has sort of given up on finding that out. Maybe he shouldn't have, though; it might be worth trying asking them again.]

Which... would be hard, if Fear and those other guys are winning out. [ Huh. ] Wonder why they're not, like... flat-out enemies? Considering.

[ Seems like it'd make more sense. ]

They have to know, right? How could you get killed by something and have no idea what it was? In that... mass, I mean. Since so many of them died.

That's um, a good question. I think maybe fighting with each other would take too much energy or something?

[He's quiet a minute at her next questions, glancing away briefly in thought, and is a little quieter when he responds.]

I dunno. I mean, maybe it was something they'd never seen before, and even if they knew it was attacking them instead of it being like, a surprise, they may not have had any idea what it was.

[Like when they'd all been attacked by the wendigos at home, or when Chris had encounter Pyramid Head here.]

So, if they all get powered up again, they might start doing that. [ Hannah notes solemnly. ] That wouldn't be good.

[ To say the least. ]

They should know. They're 'gods.' [ She smiles wryly. ] No, I get what you're saying. That has to be it.

They might, yeah. I mean, it could be good if the gods we like best won, but since Hope's bringing them all back I kind of doubt he'd be fighting them to win.

[And the idea of Delight fighting anyone is kind of laughable.]

Maybe um, we could try asking them again sometime. I mean, I don't think anyone who's asked has been uh... Tactful about it.

[To put it nicely.]

Maybe you could. I mean, you seem like you get them. More than other people.

[ At least, that's the impression she's gotten. ]

You're so smooth, Chris; you could pull it off.

[ Hannah grins, laughing lightly, but still earnest. ]

I've just um, been here a long time, so I've kind of gotten to know them.

[And okay, nothing could prepare him for that last comment, and she has to be joking. He grins a little, amused.]

That is, I'm pretty sure, the first time anyone's ever used 'smooth' in a sentence about me if they weren't making fun of my inability to grow a beard.

[Which he can actually do now, thank you very much, but sixteen-year-old Chris could definitely not manage the suave stubble look.]
