video, backdated to the 15th

[One day in, after conversations with the guard and various others, Simon finally makes his broadcast. The man on screen is well-dressed, despite his collar being unbuttoned and sleeves rolled up to his elbows; his hair is carefully combed back, even if it looks like he did the job with his fingers. He clears his throat, and when he speaks it sounds like he's careful to modulate his voice, that of a doctor giving bad news to a patient. Diagnosis: grim.]

Ah, hello. I'm Dr. Simon Tam, one of the medical professionals at the clinic. In my previous residence, I was a trauma surgeon. I have years of medical training and am here to help in whatever ways I can with the usual injuries one acquires through violence or accident.

As I'm sure you're all aware, Fear--I'm presuming--has brought in a new kind of creature, one that appears to previously have been human. I'm reluctant to use the word 'zombie,' but that will have to do, I suppose. I want you all to know we are working on studying these zombies and trying to find what created them, whether it's a virus or something less mundane. Anyone who has had experience with beings like this in their previous worlds, please reach out to your clinic staff, any information can be helpful.

For those of you who have been wounded by one of these zombies or have had close physical contact, please report to the clinic. We may be able to help you--and if we can't, maybe we can help keep you from hurting anyone else. I'll do my best to make sure it's the former.

This is both why you are an idiot (one of many reasons) and why we no longer play chess.

just because ur mad that u have trouble predicting natural geological events like an earthquake or a flood doesn't mean u have to resort to name-calling Hermann

rly that's pretty immature of u

[the best part of this is that Hermann is probably sitting across from him at the kitchen table while this is all going down and can see the very amused, very smug grin that's stretching wide over Newt's face as he types into his phone]

Upending your bottle of inadequate beer on MY chessboard is not a flood! 'Accidentally' kicking the table leg until it gives out and the whole thing falls is not an earthquake!

I am IMMATURE?

IMMATURE?!

[ Yes, simultaneously. He glowers across, his own face blotching red. That grin. Why does he live with him?! ]

[Newt glances up, briefly, from his phone]

C'mon, Hermann, I'm right here. You don't have to shout. [except there's no way he can affect a cool face for such a statement--so that grin only stretches wider as he looks back down at the screen]

also unimaginative

u kno they say adults that have lost their ability to imagine and play get older quicker, u'd better check urself!

imaGIen this

[ extreme agitation + extreme maturity (...or the effect Newton has on it, which may be to produce the inverse) =

Hermann's fumbling fingers and broken text preceding chucking a Root Vegetable #4 (it is very like but at at all a carrot) at Newton's head. ]

Wha--[Newt has half a moment to frown at the text before something comes at him and he's instinctually ducking with a squawk--barely managing to dive under the table in time to avoid it. once underneath, he's quickly typing a reply:]

for the record, hermann has just thrown a not-carrot at me

he doesn't like it when ppl point out his failings to his face

[there are snickers coming from under the table now]

ok time to stop abusing dr. tam's inbox bye

[ He'll show you his face no he won't, after the rush of Very Mature aggravation, it sticks but levels. Worsened by embarrassment, now, with that disclosure, but it pushes him toward a different impulse. With care: ]

The only thing a record should be concerned with is your methodology regarding the 'zombies'!

I leave you to it.

[ I.E. Dr. Gottlieb exits, pursued by his dignity. Or lack thereof. Meaning: not only is he no longer responding via text, but he's pushing back the chair (and he might be kicking Newton in the process, not wholly unintentionally), collecting his cane, and stalking out of the room. ]

[Newt lets out an 'oof!' when Hermann's foot "accidentally" connects with his ribs, and yet he can't help but laugh as Hermann moves to stalk out of the room--and his head is popping out from under the table to watch him go, and call after him:] Don't worry, süße, despite your flaws, I still love you!

[although, admittedly, he hasn't realized he's hit the voice function]

voice HEY THERE 8D

[personal profile] fortunefavored 2016-09-28 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Newt jolts a bit at the sudden voice, blinking--but then he settles back down under the table to reply] Yeah! We built it last month. It's pretty rudimentary, but it gets the job done.

I mean, I dunno if I'd recommend going there without an escort because, y'know, zombies, but it's definitely there.

YOU'RE FINE DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

Honestly, we're kinda working on bare bones. But we've got chalkboards, a microscope of sorts, a refrigeration unit, and lots of spare parts and scrap that we've managed to gather.

Not at all.

[ After all, now Dr. Tam has to work with him. Gratitude may not be a sticking feeling. Though he's sure to review any results with Newton, he'd welcome the opportunity to have such discussion with another worthy mind.

Biology isn't his expertise (as he'll say), but he's had to work with Newton long enough that he's more capable than he'd like to be. ]

It isn't my area, but I'd appreciate it.
