As backwards as this place is, at least you're not using coin. That kind of economy never made a lot of sense to me. You don't even really seem like you're bartering at all! That's more than a little strange.

However, since that's the case, I really don't see what the point is in working for an organization like the clinic. Why would I want to go work for someone else when I've been doing just fine on my own for years? Where I'm from, I'm one of just two menders, and I've had plenty of practice.

Has anyone from your great clinic recreated half a brain before? I doubt it. I have. So feel free to stop by the better healer whenever you like. I'm usually around the library trying to find something that isn't garbage, if you've, I don't know, got your fingers chewed off, or something.

I'm guessin' you might wanna brush up on your diplomacy. Though in all fairness, I don't know many people here who'd agree to a medical check-up, much less intensive brain surgery.

Then they're idiots. I'm a very good alternative, and it's magic! It's a fast and better option for pain management and recovery time. If this sort of thing is as common as people act, then a check-up would be the right idea.

[It's still stupid and he can't stop feeling annoyed by it -- or feeling annoyed by the fact that he's annoyed, since he's sure it has to do with his curse -- but he shouldn't keep taking it out on Sans just because he was the one listening.]

Quite abruptly, Sans is in the library. Not immediately behind wherever Warrick is, 'cause he's been told that is "shocking" and also "terrifying" and that ain't what he's springin' for, frankly.

But he ambles along until he comes across the guy he's been chattin' with. Waves.]

[he gets to draw a skeleton yaaaay

Warrick's kicked back on the back two legs of his chair when he catches sight of Sans, and the wave makes him fall forward back on all four with a loud clatter and a grin. He should probably...not have his reading table so messy, seeing as he had been trying to entice patients to see him there, but... Hey, it was a good spot to camp out and he'd sort of started a fort out of useless books already. He nudges the chair next to him out in invitation.]

Hi! That was fast. Were you already on your way over, or was that more magic?

[It's a pose Sans himself as assumed many a time - he can recognize a fellow lounger when he sees one. Sans idles on over and plonks down in the proffered seat.]

Just a shortcut I knew.

[Technically not a lie, though hell if you can get him to elaborate on that. Not a lot about Sans makes sense. For one, he's considerably...rounder than a guy who's all bones should be.]

[skeleton-senpai is so mysterious...]

Well, I'm not going to complain. I need a break from talking with these people.

[He gestures to his phone, then leans across the table to pick up one of the blank books.]

You're really very different than a human skeleton. More like a child's drawing of one. Maybe not as scary. [ha] I wonder why the similarities that are there developed, or if it's just coincidence. You said you're a monster?

[He grins cheerfully in Warrick's direction as he settles into his seat, heel of his palm swinging up to support the rounded part of his skull that constitutes his chin as he braces his weight on his elbow.]

Mhm. I figure there's some pretty significant differences. Like, uh, how bone ain't really supposed to do this.

[He winks one eyesocket, then the other. The bone just kinda...folds down over the socket and pops back up again, as pliable as skin. But it sure don't look like skin]

We fall under the species of "monsters," so I'd say there's no actual relation between humans and us. Just speculation, though.

[He's really jealous about this skull. And if he can learn how it works even a little bit, fixing bones might become even less painful for the injured, or not leave them sore for a while after...]

But you consider it bone? [He makes a quick note in the corner of the pages, then sweeps his pen in a sketchy arc.] Does it feel hard like bone, or is it more rubbery?

Nah, it's bone.

[He drums the tips of his phalanges against the side of his skull to indicate. Sure enough, it makes the hollow kind of rattling tap-tap-tap you'd expect from bone.]

Magic lets ya break pretty much any rule if it's dramatic or funny enough.

...I guess that explains my sister. She doesn't follow the laws of conservation when it comes to magic, and she's definitely dramatic. Went around turning people into hats and shoes last time I was this far away from my heart.

[He adds a few more lines, then glances up.]

Never heard someone put it that way before. You certainly take your magic very seriously.

[He chuckles, faintly disbelieving.]

Why would I go for the rule of drama when the lowest forms of humor are in easy reach, I ask you? I mean, look at me. Do I look like a guy who can reach all that high?

[Turns out being about four feet off the ground can be a real hindrance, who knew? 'Course, he don't need to be terribly tall to prove the points he needs to prove.]

[He does an earnest job of being mock offended, eyeing Warrick with an amused grin.]

[Somehow, even the brief, offhand mention of Emma gets his shoulders to relax a little more, and his eyes become a little less calculated. He's just drawing. It's almost nice.]

That's true. Things from Earth seemed very weird to me even with all the reading I'd done.

Sounds like Selva, aside from the laugh. Like I said, she's dramatic. I'd say she drives me up the wall way more than she does something cool, though. [...Hmn.] I do admire her. I always have.
