NOTIFICATION/REPORT #2 || BACKDATED TO 10-10 AFTERNOON
Attention: Hadriel Residents
Subject: Dragxkdksoe
[ Abruptly, the text is posted, with a video immediately following, the screen initially shaking, jostling, as one voice protests in the background ]
Newton, give it back--!!
--we’re talking about dragons, Hermann! There’s no way you’re doing this in a stuffy text post!
[ The video stabilizes a bit, currently held just out of reach of one (1) Hermann Gottlieb. The arm holding said phone out of reach belongs to one (1) Newt Geiszler. It’s debatable how long he’ll be able to keep it out of Hermann’s grasp, but he sure is going to try.]
[ For a petulant, tortured moment Hermann sincerely looks as though he is about to lunge for the phone, a matter of aggrieved principle and standard outrage. Yet, 1.53 seconds and he thinks better of it. They are recording. He would be seen looking foolish.
Hermann grits his teeth and straightens, standing up, all stiff professionalism as he leans on his cane. He has rarely used video. He hates this. Newton will hear about it later, once the video is off. ]
Fine. As you may know, I am Dr. Gottlieb, that is my colleague--
(Boyfriend!)
[ They are recording. A muscle works in his jaw, but Hermann swallows his protest, resists the urge to throw something at or strangle Newton, and continues-- ]
--Dr. Geiszler. In our world, we worked in Kaiju Science, which to put it succinctly, means we studied the behemoth -- larger than these dragons, I assure you -- alien creatures invading our world, and aided the development and design of offensive and defensive weaponry.
We are requesting data--
[and that’s about the time Newt’s managed to prop the camera up somewhere, and pops fully into view.]
--basically I want any info anyone has about the dragons! Flight patterns, movements, where they’re hanging out, their favorite color--seriously, anything and everything. You notice it, I wanna know it! Aaaaand if you can get scales or something, that’d be super helpful. Or any other bits. The more there is to analyze, the more likely it is that we’ll be able to throw something together.
[and tbh that’s about as much of serious professional as Newt is going to be able to get before really yeah okay he has to fold and his face splits into a wide grin] Also real, live dragons, you guys. Dragons! This is seriously some King Arthur level shit! How cool is this?!
[ observe the look of deep, deep, depthless chagrin as it settles into the lines of Dr. Gottlieb's face, lines carved by almost seven years of this.
LOUDLY: ]
Videos if they may be safely obtained, observations, specifics, as specific as possible. Note the effectiveness of your standard weaponry, or whatever it is you can do and use. The scales would, indeed, be particularly helpful.
Be safe, but be quick and be thorough.
Yeah, don’t die while doing it. That’d be dumb.
...Right. The sooner, the sooner we may be able to put something together.
So, like….chop chop and stuff. Thanks! K-Sci, out!
[aaand yep gonna turn off that video now, though because he’s Newt, he’s continuing to talk as he’s reaching to do so--]
Though maybe it should be D-Sci since it’s dragons and not kaiju--
Please, perhaps once you've studied them for a decade, and you can't--
[--click!]
[ooc: i'm so sorry (nikki isn't) but plz help!! -- they'd have mentioned DRAGON PIES WTF but backdated) ]

no subject
[ Aside from brief visits home which summarily stopped after he and his father conclusively disagreed about the merits of that wall.
Not the point. ]
I am sure Newton will cover the kaiju. I won't be redundant.
no subject
Well, give me something. Where you been in the past decade if not Germany?
no subject
[ And he would be sorely tempted to mute it -- but Hermann can at least answer that. ]
Different Shatterdomes. Technically, it is something like, 122 days here, 473 in Haven, five years in the Hong Kong Shatterdome, and a few others before that.
no subject
The hell is a Shatterdome? [And then, with a grin:] Sounds like a hell of a place to go clubbing, but I'm gonna assume you didn't spend five years waving around glowsticks.
no subject
No. [ Without anything like a grin. ] The Shatterdomes were regional headquarters for the PPDC -- the Pan Pacific Defense Corps -- serving also as Jaeger factories, construction, and maintenance, as well as laboratories for kaiju studies.
[ Especially in the last years, when all operations were necessarily centralized in the single, last Shatterdome. He can preempt the next question, he thinks. ]
Jaegers are what we built to fight the kaiju.
[ Helpful, he knows. He could probably preempt the next one, too, but he'd rather be talking about dragons just now -- unusually, perhaps, as Hermann largely preferred the Jaegers to the kaiju, but priorities. ]
no subject
[It actually sounds kind of boring, which is a feat, considering they're talking about aliens. But whatever, now he's determined to keep Hermann talking, because spite.]
So what the hell's a jaeger? That's . . . [Something German, anyway. He almost says that, but best not to give the Doc any more reasons to think him an idiot.
From far overhead, there's a distant roar . . . but there's been roars all day. One roar does not a dragon sighting make.]
no subject
[ Doubtfully. Newton is there. Newton is engaging in a way Mr. Polnareff seems to like. Why is he still being subjected to this?
His eyebrows hike at that roar. Surely that silver figure would burst forth if it meant dangerous proximity, yet he does tense. ]
A mobile weapon. I suppose the proper term is mecha. We built robots to match their size, armed with varying weaponry, piloted by two individuals.
no subject
You built robots? What the hell, why wouldn't you tell me about this before! [Because you've had all of two conversations.] Have you ever piloted one? What's it like? Do they work? Holy shit, Doc, that's awesome!
no subject
No, I've never piloted one.
[ And another. ]
I coded them, or the first batch. Of course they work.
[ Well -- as it happens, he's susceptible to this, enthusiasm over the Jaegers. He might just be trying not to smile by the end of it. ]
Beastly expensive, of course, but they proved they only method to stop the kaiju.
no subject
So tell me about em. You must know them in and out, if you were the one who made them.
no subject
[ and by code one means wrote the language and programming but ]
What specifically would you like to know? The gist is as said: enormous mecha of comparable size to the kaiju, piloted by teams of two, in one, three.
