You may have noticed some abnormal behavior regarding the Door. Normally it doesn't bring in anything so large, and we did not expect it to do so this time. Delight and I have been attempting to alter the Door to send you home, as you have so often requested, but as I have said again and again, we have very little knowledge in this area. We will try again.

My appreciation for those who slew the dragons. We did not intend on their arrival, and I would be willing to grant you a favor in return for your efforts - if it's within my power, and not too foolish.

It's what they want.

They are, as a collective, stupid and irrational. One of them even insisted that I make meat grow on trees, despite my explanation of the possible sanitation issues.

I do not trust them with the responsibility of knowing what they want. Don't make me question you as well.

They're disagreeable and unappreciative, but they've said the same thing over and over. Only a few of them would stay, given the choice.

Of course, now they seem angry that I'm doing as they've asked.

Precisely. They'll never give you a straight answer. It's better to see to our needs and continue on with our responsibilities as we have been.

You'll drive yourself mad if you try to see to the whims of all humans.

I don't think you're wrong. Still, I can't give up on them so easily. Some of them are not entirely awful.

It's not about them being awful, it's about them being useful.

You're forgetting what's important.

I haven't forgotten. I want to bring Love and Tranquility back, but I have spent the last year being blamed and hated for these creature's arrival here. I want to try, at least.

Because some of us need to go home. Keep the people that want to stay, but let the rest of us go. That seems fair, right?

Not to us. We require more than a handful of you to suit our purposes.

You all would get along just fine without us, no matter what bullshit purposes you think you have. If you don't let us go home, I swear it's something you will end up regretting.

We have discussed this, so it may be redundant, and I'll apologize in advance. Though we were never his intention, we have arguably proved useful to Mr. Hope's regular resurrection of your comrades.

[ In fact, so regular he doubts whether trying to help actually makes a difference... Very arguably then... ]

You indicated an unwillingness to consider us until the last revival. Mr. Hope has evidently decided otherwise. Would he be capable without us? If so, why not assist him?

He would not be capable in the same fashion. This is a sacrifice, because he cares for you. It is one that I will not tolerate.

Understood. While his interest benefits us, it is rather inexplicable.

[ And he does understand. (And he's not saying it's inexplicable for approbation; there really is absolutely no logical reason for Mr. Hope to care for them. They may increase his power, but they're also largely a needy, ungrateful lot. If it truly isn't Mr. Hope's fault, then gratitude would be in order.) It may be oddly regular now, but for how long -- in fact. ]

How long had it been only Mr. Fear and Mr. Hope?

Not long by our standards. Long enough in yours. I would say- perhaps a dozen months or so?

[Now that he's familiar with the concept of a human month, cough cough.]

Long enough to set them at one another's throats. Moreso than they had already been, anyway.

[ The point is made: in twelve months (if going fairly by the current cycling of light and dark, the Door's opening marking the month), Mr. Hope had revived none of the gods. Then they'd come and Mr. Hope managed a god every three months. Yet, Mr. Fear had been the one to open the Door.

More questions, always more questions. It's surprising that it had only been a year. Had everyone died at once now two years ago? What happened? What could kill these gods that left Mr. Fear and Mr. Hope undisturbed for twelve months? ]

A dozen months isn't terribly long by ours, either. Only a year. Only about as along as we, as a whole, have been here.

[ As a whole -- not himself, obviously, he's only been here four months. They'd fought the kaiju for almost twelve years. A dozen months, no... not very long at all. Anyway. Mr. Sorrow introduced that... disagreement between the gods. ]

Notwithstanding our needs, Mr. Hope has demonstrably benefited from us. Do you believe Mr. Fear has accomplished what he intended by opening the Door? Understanding, of course, that you cannot speak for him.

Yes, that sounds about right.

I think he has, insomuch as I can understand his goals. Fear is a complicated creature, but the desire for more power is not a difficult concept to understand.

Does it remain a futile line of questioning to inquire as to the specifics of what lead to that year of those two alone?

In that, your people and mine are very much alike.

Yes. The rest of us and our previous hosts died. There is little else to be said about it at this time.

Why do your people desire power?
