Okay so maybe the angels and elves were all mostly jerks. [it's important to note that a) lloyd is including his dad in this list and b) that 'jerk' is honestly an understatement when it comes to most of the angels.]

But I still don't know what electricty is and I did just fine without it so obviously it can't be that important.

Well, usually it doesn't, unless you're dumb enough to go and get yourself electrocuted. But - I dunno if you noticed, it's a fucking blizzard outside, so without heat and electricity, I'm just not liking the odds for surviving it.

[shockingly, lloyd does a decent enough job of reading from context that he doesn't ask her what being electrocuted is, but it's a close one. instead, he gives her a slightly concerned look with a tilt of the head.]

That's what fires and blankets are for. Are you cold? Because I have a whole lot of bear skin blankets and stuff from my first month here if you need one.

It's a little chilly, yeah. But I'm fine - for now. [She just doesn't believe they'll outlast this storm.] And anyway, you're better off staying put. Everyone knows the best way to get yourself dead in a snowstorm is going out in it.

[almost idly, lloyd scratches the side of his head and considers the issue.] I think there are more ways to die than that, honestly. There are monsters out there.

[he doesn't sound terribly bothered by that fact though.]

[Nick's expression twists into one of total irritation.]

Well, yeah. Now that you mention it, I did notice there are monsters here.

[oh, like this is the first time someone has ever sounded irritated while talking to him. nick please, sarcasm is not lloyd's forte.

there's a very small scrape across one of lloyd's cheeks, already starting to scab over, that looks sort of like road rash, but it's the only real evidence that he already spent most of yesterday out in the snow dealing with said monsters.

he just nods along with nick's comment and adds earnestly:] Be careful out there, okay? Not everyone here knows how to fight, I guess. [and what a strange concept that is, though he's not going to make an assumption about nick either way.] And I don't mind making trips out in the storm for people if it will keep them safe.

[Nick frowns, but it's less out of irritation this time, more a response to someone expressing concern over her. It's foreign, and uncomfortable, and she doesn't like it.]

I can take care of myself, kid. Been doing it a long time.

Just because you can take care of yourself doesn't mean you can't let other people take care of you too!

You don't have to be related to someone to care about them though. [for real, or lloyd would have to be related to pretty much everyone ever.]
