[Video & Voice] cw: for mild gore
Why won't you work the way I want you to?
[ The video was mostly accidently, Will laying in his bed fiddling with the buttons on his phone. Will had been trying to dial numbers from home, all to no avail. He'd tried turning it off and then on again, hoping that resetting it would give him the means of calling home... Not that he had anyone to answer but still. Failing that, he was checking the contact list every 5 minutes, just in case another name was added that he might recognize, or the possibility that his own would vanish. ]
If I take you apart and you break...
[ He sighed and the video feed cuts off for a moment. It next returns a few hours later, after having accidentally, privately called a few people only to hang up quickly after having realized he was calling. As his finger lingered wearily over the connect button, having fallen into a light sleep while trying and testing his methodical and repetitive act. His finger pressed heavy with sleep and called the network, only to show the ceiling of his apartment, the uttered mumblings of his sleeptalking. ]
I wasn't... Thinking straight... I was... Upset... Angry...
[ The feed cuts off as Will's palm enveloped the device. Until a few hours later that is.
The feed seemed to be swinging, Will still holding his phone down by his side as he walked slowly into the night. Clues of his whereabouts in the City came in small sections as the camera swayed in motion with his steps. It was dark and a thick fog seemed to roll in from out of nowhere. Then the noise began. A loud and steady siren, yet Will remained calm. A dark blur moved passed the camera of his phone, steam from the breath of a large animal puffed out the nose and directly on the screen. It was anightmareish stag that dislodged the phone from Will's hand, becoming clear to those viewing as it leaned down and gave a snort from its nose.
Will swayed in his slumber where he stood, then took to walking again, just a few feet in front of the device, he was seen barefoot and dressed in only a sweat soaked t-shirt and boxers, the stag followed close to his side as other motions and shadows from the fog began to emerge. Human-like forms with their arms bound across their chests held in place with a sheath of discolored skin, yet Will continued to sleepwalk towards them. Ash started to gather around the small lens of his phones camera, distorting the view, yet just before it was covered and the screen went a static white and gray, something else from Will's deepest, darkest dreams, scooped the phone up before dropping it suddenly, knocking it hard enough to crack the screen and switch to audio only. Will's trembling, cold, voice in the near distance, speaking out softly as the sirens continued making it harder to hear. He sounded almost as if he was coming around from his slumber, confused and tired. ]
... I brought you a gift... Then thought better of it... I had no idea you were here... Abi- !!
[ Suddenly the sound of fast movement and heavy thudding. He'd fallen? Been pushed down? Something wasn't right at all. Nothing but the sounds of labored breathing and slight grimacing. Will felt out and found his phone in the thick settling ash, holding it up to his face to use as a light. The cracked screen flickering in and out of static and feed, showing a rather disheveled and confused looking Will who had no idea he was broadcasting this whole time. ]
She was just here... Where'd...
[ The screen showed Will's face as his eyes searched the blinding darkness of blackest night and ashfall. Though he was not alone. Something was lurking behind him, just over a shoulder, just at arm's length away. ]

What were you doing out here?
[Now that she can assess him a bit more, she tilts her head as she observes the way he's dressed. A t-shirt and boxers wasn't really normal for an outing.]
Were you sleep walking?
no subject
plantedevidence started to show up.Will shakes his head, hugs himself to warm a little better and lets out a single laugh. ]
I... I don't know. I felt like I was dreaming... But it didn't feel like I was asleep.
no subject
Come on, I'll walk you home.
[He shouldn't be sitting around out here dressed like that. He'll just get colder.]
What was that thing? Those creatures. Do they come from your world?
no subject
I live in the apartments, 4th one...
[ Once they were on the move, Will walked a little slower than he would have liked. His muscles ached and his feet were red raw. Hobbling some and still trying to warm his body with his arms. That was when she asked her question. ]
They come from my world.
[ Tapping his head to imply that they were just something he dreamed up. It was hard to accept or to believe now that someone else had actually seen them. ]
I'm not exactly sure what they are... I believe the elk is me and that other thing? .... I think it's a friend of mines true nature...
[ Well, there went any chance of her thinking he was just a normal guy. Well done Will. ]
no subject
Oh, I see. Like a dream.
[And Jill already didn't consider Will entirely normal. It only took a couple of instances to convince her of that. Not that she holds it against him. He's odd, but he always seemed nice enough, and she doesn't really have many friends here.
Besides, dreams are normal enough. People dream up all kinds of things. They imagine themselves as other people or creatures. In a nightmare, anything can be cooked up.]
Your friend is a bit scary.
[If that creature may be his true nature.]
no subject
I guess. Though I don't feel like I'm sleeping when I see them. It's happened a few times before... I-
[ He stops, he really shouldn't be unloading this on here. She's probably itching to get back home, continue her evening with friends and so on. Will's being greedy with her time and he should know better. ]
Well, I use the term friend loosely. It's complicated.
no subject
In actuality, Will wasn't a burden on her. He clearly needed some help, and helping him gave her some much needed purpose after she appeared in a strange land.]
Have you talked to anyone about it? Maybe someone could help you.
[With the sleeping thing.]
You don't have to suffer through things alone.
no subject
He was very much alone, he could feel it right down to his bones like a chill, yet he'd argue that he liked it best that way, even though it left him feeling empty. Hey, at least he had his dog, Winston here. ]
About what, the sleepwalking? Yea... Back home, not long before I found myself here... Still not sure if I'm actually awake and if this is really real.
[ He side eyed Jill as she said that last part. It was sweet of here to say such a thing, but Will already had a guard up, for his sake not his own. He was too damaged to befriend. It's better to be alone, for everyone else sake. ]
...It's all I know...
[ The words slipped out before he could stop himself. The last thing he wanted was her pity. ]
no subject
[Granted, she comes from a modern Earth, but she's met a few here who know things her world won't know for a very long time. As for the dreaming bit, Jill smiles a little.]
It could be we're all dreaming. Who knows. I don't think I could dream this up, but you might.
[Will appeared to have a very active imagination. As for it being all he knows, Jill shakes her head a little.]
Doesn't mean it has to stay that way.
[But it's up to Will to decide to change that. Jill laughs softly under her breath at a thought.]
Hey, if you're dreaming all this up, and you dreamt me up, then maybe you should listen to me a little more often, hm?
[She aims to give him a soft jab in the shoulder with her knuckles, gently teasing him. First he doesn't follow her advice about going to the clinic after being terrorized by a dragon and now this. He sure was a stubborn guy.]
no subject
[ He was curious. Her weapons didn't look too far fetched but he's never seen a tactical suit like the one she was wearing. A mix of familiar and not so. Her comments about everyone dreaming made him almost smile. It wasn't such a far-fetched idea. ]
Mass hallucination on a grander level, is that what you're suggesting is going on here?
[ The sad thing was, that Will's dreams and his reality were both just as horrifying as each other. He didn't which one he preferred more.
Jill was kind, strong and friendly, he wasn't used to someone with all those qualities in one, she confused him and because of that, she was very interesting to Will.]
So I should just trust what the girl of my dreams is telling me and throw all caution to the wind in trusting her? Hmmm... No, I er, I don't think I could dream someone like you up. And if I have, you've come for a part of my imagination I've not tapped into for a long time.
[ Will sawys lightly from the jab to his shoulder, his body aches, but Jill's touch was soft, a distraction. Will was beyond stubborn, but his main goal was the same as Jill's help others. He couldn't do it as well when he was ill and he wasn't about to make Jill burden herself with looking after him. ]
no subject
[This is beyond anything Jill could imagine. People here were from everywhere. Other places, times, universes... it was all a jumble, and it didn't appear to make any sense. Maybe they were trying to make sense of senseless situation. She'd considered that, as well.
When he makes those remarks about her, it makes Jill smile a little. She'll take that as a compliment. Hopefully it was meant that way. But Jill isn't without her flaws, too.]
My world...
[That's not an easy question. How do you describe the world where you come from?]
It's seen better days. There was an incident in '98 that took things in a terrible direction. Pharmaceutical companies, one in particular, began investing in bio-weapon research. It caused an outbreak that basically turned an entire city into zombies. At the time I was a member of a Special Tactics and Rescue Squad. [S.T.A.R.S.]. Ever since then, I've been fighting against those companies and hunting down their 'experiments'. My partner and I, along with others, founded the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. [B.S.A.A.] Our mission is to investigate bioterroism hotzones and put an end to any bioweapon threats. And... that's me in a nutshell.
[Or her professional self as it relates to the world she comes from, anyway.]
no subject
That was a good point. She was used to dealing with zombies and the dead on a daily basis, Will felt a connection to her, though it was sad that the connection was death, it was a connection none the less. ]
That actually explains a lot. I've been curious about your life outside of here, or before here I should say. Is that why you're part of the City guard here? Feels as normal as you can to home? ... I tried to say that I'd like to join too... But I was rather honestly refused.
[ Which is a shame, really, because Will had an amazing talent, he was just a bit muddle with it at the moment, but that's another story.
All the talking took its toll on Will, and soon he found himself taking up Jill on her offer of pausing for a break in one of the buildings they passed by. ]
can we? Just for a moment. I need to catch my breath.
[ leaning against the wall and looking at the souls of his battered and bloody feet. ]
Gonna start wearing shoes to bed, I think.
no subject
Yeah, that's right. Guess I don't feel like myself unless I'm trying to do some good.
[Her entire adult life has been devoted to service. First in the army, then with S.T.A.R.S, and then the B.S.A.A. She'll go back to that unit once she returns home. A three year hiatus is long enough.]
Maybe you can try and join again later. Once you get settled in.
[Clearly he was still shaky. Then Jill smiled at him.]
I could always use a partner.
[She was accustomed to having one, though Will was incredibly different than Chris. Still, she bet Will could do some good, too. At the need to rest, she nodded and stopped with him.]
I could go get a first-aid kit if you need some bandages for your feet. Or maybe there's something we can use in this building.
no subject
If you have the ability to help others, to save a life or protect an endangered one... I think you have to act on it. If you don't? You partly to blame, guilty even, of what will become.
[ It strikes a cord with him and deeply so. After all, back home, Will was willing to break himself simply because he was the only one who could do his job. if he stopped doing what he did best, people died and murderer walked free. ]
Heh, maybe not. Maketh doesn't think I'm well enough to be of use. Though I'd still like to help... In my own way If I can.
[ Her smiled and suggestion took him by surprise. Observing her for a moment and yes, yes she was being genuine. She'd trust him as her partner? ]
For the time being, I could be your silent partner at least? I mean, I can help out, come with you on your watch?
[ After all, he was never a real FBI special agent, Jack just pulled some strings to get him on the case. What was so different about here? He could do that for Jill. ]
Um.. Actually, yeah. If we could find something to cover them up with, I'd appreciate it.
no subject
That'd be great. It's gets a little boring walking around by myself.
[He wouldn't officially be in the guard, but Jill doesn't think it's a problem. She can't get in trouble for walking with someone, right? Especially if Will just wanted to help.]
Sure, sit here. I'll be back.
[Jill heads into the building to search the place. Perhaps the gods left odds and ends around. She's gone for about ten minutes before she returns with a bottle of water and a couple of towels. The water bottle is offered to him.]
This should do it. Here, use this to wash the wounds and I'll bind them.
no subject
Well as you know, I'm hardly fascinating company. But I'll try.
[ A slight smile, though it vanishes almost as fast as it appeared. ]
Oh, okay...
[ He was a little anxious to have her leave. Worried that something would happen to her while she was searching or perhaps that he'd vanish before she got back... It was possible after all, he didn't know what was going on with his mind anymore.
As he waited, Will looked around. It was so empty here. Not many other people apart from those that the Gods saw fit to bring in. So strange. When she returned, is Will had a tail like Winston, he would have been wagging it. ]
Thanks! I'm surprised you were able to find anything at all.
[ Taking the water, bathing his wounds and looking nervous and anxious as she dressed them with the towels for him. ]
no subject
[It's hit or miss sometimes with finding supplies. As he cleaned his wounds, Jill bit the towel with her teeth to begin a tear and pulled the towel apart in strips to form bandages. When she began wrapping his first foot, it's with a trained sort of skill. Clearly, she has many skills. She could never pass for an expert, but she makes a decent field medic in a pinch.
As she works, she looks up to his face again. He said he wasn't fascinating company, but she disagrees. Although...]
You know, I don't really know much about you. Where do you come from? Tell me about yourself.
[She answered the question for him. Maybe he'll answer the same question for her.]
no subject
Her request was inevitable, though Will was hoping it would come a little later. He took in a deep breath as he pondered on what exactly to say. Feeling the need, to tell the truth, was his first instinct, yet Will didn't want her to think he was any more strange than she must have already thought! ]
Wolf Trap, Virginia... Though I spend a lot of my time in Baltimore , Maryland. Uh, I mean spent a lot of my time, not anymore though huh?
[ A small, weak smile was offered. ]
You know my name, um... I have 7 dogs? I think.
[ Silently Will moved his lips as he counted his pack in his head. ]
Yeah, 7 dogs. Uhh...
[ A shrug, running out of things to say, as he didn't want to give anything too big away unless she asked. ]
What else would you want to know?
no subject
The mention of seven dogs does make her smile.]
Wow. That's a lot of dogs.
[A person who takes in that many dogs must be kind. And perhaps in need of company. She imagined dogs were easier for Will to get along with than people, judging from the difficulty he sometimes has talking to her. And there's the whole eye-contact thing.
And then he opens that door for more questions, which he'll probably wish he hadn't. Jill finishes his first foot and moves on to the other, bandaging it up.]
Who's Abigail? You called me by that name twice.
no subject
Seeing her smile and make mention of his dogs, made him smile a little. Will loved his dogs, there were all the family and friends he needed. Unlike people, the dogs never asked too many questions, they never let him down or tried to help him, they were just there, always, when he needed then and they, in turn, needed him. Unconditionally. ]
Yeah, it kind of is, isn't it?
[ Will laughed at the actually. When said out loud, it did seem a bit much. ]
Do you like dogs? I mean, I love all animals but dogs are my weakness. I have a habit of collecting strays... I just can't seem to ignore them. Probably why my packs so big and growing.
[ It was nice to think and talk about his dogs, his voice lightened, not as gravel and serious as it normally was. He was all smiled and happy thoughts- Until she mentioned her. Oh, crap. What had he said, what had he done!? ]
Abigail?... Did I?
[ His eyes went a little vacant. He looked worried and almost scared even. ]
She's a young girl... I uh... I... She's missing... I
killedsaved her from her father.no subject
When his expression changes at the mention of Abigail, Jill notices, and she feels sorry to bring up what is obviously a sensitive subject.]
Missing? That's terrible.
[Jill has had to deal with plenty of missing persons cases in her career. The latest missing person being Jill herself until Chris finally freed her from Wesker's control.]
no subject
Her comment about Abigail was a little comfort to him. It was terrible and Will felt helpless. ]
We think she might be dead... I feel guilty, she was my responsibility after her Dad...
[ The funny thing was, Jill had looked nothing like Abigail. Abigal was a bit younger, brunette with long hair down her back. Why he'd thought Jill was her confused him. ]
Did I call you by her name, really? ... I'm sorry about that. I don't know what came over me.
no subject
It's alright. That places messes with people's heads.
[She certainly wasn't offended or anything.]
If I could help you find her, I would. Either way, I hope she's alright.
[But they clearly don't come from the same world, which she thinks is a shame, in some ways.]
By the way, what is it you do in Boston? You know what I do, but I don't know what you do.
[For work, she means.]
no subject
He nods to her comment about that place, he didn't want to think what other things it could do to your mind if you let it. ]
I doubt she's actually here, or I'd take you up on that... I just, I just don't like feeling so helpless... Knowing she could be out there still and I can't look for her.
[ Jill seemed really curious about him. Will doesn't like people sticking their nose in his business- but Jill had saved him and she didn't seem like the kind of person who would fuss about you if you told them not too. She was professional and honest. He could trust her. ]
What did I do? I was a teacher. I taught FBI agents how to profile criminals... I did a little field work too, helped psychoanalyz, point out things others couldn't see...
[ Does he tell her about his gift? No, no she doesn't need to know about it yet... Though it made him feel like he was lying to say nothing at all. ]
I have a sight. A seeing. I can put myself in someone else's position... Tell you what they saw, what their design was...
[ That was it. There was no going back now. Will waited for the usual confused look followed by the judging eye and eventually quickly turning to treat Will like some kind of freak. It was nice meeting you Jill, but now you'll think me strange and it will never be the same. . ]
no subject
The talk of what he can do doesn't seem to change her opinion. He' a profiler, right? Isn't that what profilers do? Except what Will says... she thinks he's serious. It's not just figuring out what someone is thinking; he says it like he can really see it.]
You must've seen some terrible things.
[Crimes and such. Things that might be difficult to unsee.]
