[ Allison is standing in the middle of the orchard when she clicks on her phone, an odd-looking fruit in her hand. She thinks it's supposed to be something like an apple-peach-mango hybrid but she's not really sure. Which is part of why she's broadcasting: ]

Is everything in here edible? I really don't want to end up accidentally poisoning myself, but I also really want some fresh fruit. Considering this place has apparently brought in all sorts of crazy things, I wouldn't put a poisoned orchard past the people in power. [ She turns it over in her hand again and then finally shifts her attention to her phone. ] Also, I stumbled across a signed football back when everyone seemed to be getting things-- [ and thank god she didn't get something gory and awful ] --but I have no idea whose it is. It's definitely not mine. [ If she's going to support any sport, it's lacrosse, not football. ] I'm hoping someone here might either know who it belongs to or be able to stake claim on it.

[ She ends the feed with a pretty friendly smile, her attention shifting back to the fruit as she hits the end button. ]

[ It's better safe than sorry, after all. Most people don't want to unknowingly become cannibals and then painfully turn into cannibalistic screeching monsters. ]

I've eaten an eggplant looking thing that tasted like a potato? But it had the texture of a kiwi. [ Does that count? It was not a pleasant experience, but at least the flavor was a normal sort of familiar. ]

[ Yeah, no, Allison definitely doesn't want that.

Her nose scrunches, even if Sharon can't see it. ] That sounds disgusting. Mostly because of the texture; potatoes definitely shouldn't be soft like that.

[ Don't worry, Sharon can hear the disgust in Allison's voice, and it makes her laugh quietly. ]

Yeah, a lot of the shit in the orchard takes time to get used to. I think most of it would be more edible if we could figure out ways to cook it, honestly.

Hasn't anyone tried? I mean, someone has to have figured out how to work the stoves in this place by now...

[ Sharon laughs out loud, genuinely amused by Allison's response. ]

No, no, we've figured out the stoves, we just haven't figured out the food! It's not like there are recipe books lying around, you know?

Right, I guess that would make it a little difficult... [ Allison goes quiet for a moment as she chews her lip in thought. ] Maybe we should just... find stuff that's similar to what we know and try cooking it how we would stuff back home? If we could find something with a texture similar to a potato, for instance, we could try making mashed potatoes. Or hashbrowns.

[ Although if they ended up with some weird strawberry-flavored potato-textured thing, it probably wouldn't be very good cooked like that. ]

You wanna know how I cook stuff back home? I follow the instructions on the back of the box. [ So, she's definitely not the person to swap cooking ideas with, though she's definitely tried her hand at a little creativity in the kitchen, but it was... it was a disaster. ]

But you're probably right. We just need to... experiment a little, though trying to cook with the stuff from the orchard makes me feel like a contestant on, uh, that one cooking show... Chopped? [ The one with all the weird ingredients. ]

[ That gets a laugh. ] Fair point. I guess I tend to do the same thing. [ There's got to be someone here that doesn't need step-by-step directions, though. ]

God, whoever picks those ingredients would probably love this orchard. [ After they figured out what the food was, anyway. ] I just hope there aren't any black chickens here; I get that they're naturally like that, but they're seriously gross looking.

Trust me, after a couple of months here, you'll be wishing we had some of those black chickens here. Right now, we don't have any chickens, and I for one really miss fried chicken. [ She would be happy to eat some black chicken, even if she had to kill and defeather it herself (she could figure it out eventually she's sure). ]

Oh, man, that does sound really good... [ She briefly considers asking one of the so-called gods - Chris got coffee, after all; chicken wouldn't be that much of a stretch - but until she finds out more, she's hesitant to do anything like that. ] Sorry I brought it up; hopefully it won't end up being the only thing you can think about for the next day or anything.

I'll probably be dreaming about it for the next week. Thanks, Allison. [ All light sarcasm. It's cool, clearly. ]

[ That gets a laugh out of Allison. ] Sorry. But who knows, maybe there's someone out there that knows how to make it if we ever do find black chickens. Or... anything else that's similar in structure.

Fingers crossed that the next Door surge brings in Colonel Sanders. [ The chicken man himself, great creator of KFC and the original recipe. ]

That would be so weird if he actually did show up...

And fucking awesome. [ he could open up a chicken stall. it would be great and delicious. ]
