( Ana had spent the first few days holed up in an unused building, heading out when it had gotten dark to get a lay of the land, reading what she could on the phone she'd been given. It had been curious, but certainly more personal than informative )

It looks like my mission failed.
But I'm not the only one who has lost something, as unfortunate as that is.
Are they anything to do with the arrivals here, or is it coincidence?
There is more, I could guess that easily enough. Would I find a complete answer? That I doubt.

[It definitely makes a weird situation weirder. She's still reeling from the truth that her mother is alive - that she's been alive this whole time. Having her here to talk with is something of a surreal experience, on top of everything else.]

I'm glad. Despite the earlier transformations, it isn't the most secure locale.

No more than I can handle. [So far. Her armor made it easier, and having Alphys to help her with ammunition was definitely a boon.]

Have you found a place to live?

I have something suitable.

( Read: it's not really a home but that's not the biggest concern rn. Also she's so used to not really having a home so /SHRUG )

I am relieved that this place has been kind to you, حبيبتى . It is enough to hear of what could have happened.

I don't know if I would ascribe 'kind' to this place. Tranquility's reprieve was one thing, but there are the monthly colleseum monster bouts, which you've already seen. And other things besides.

Perhaps not kind, but there are worse things. I'm not surprised that you've survived.

You learned well. It was always something I was proud of.

[That stops her. She'd been so at adds with her mother in the past, wanting to join Overwatch and then enlisting in the Army instead. Things had been tense; she had been doing everything her mother hadn't wanted and didn't think there was any way she'd ever really make her proud.]

Proud?

[She's not sure what else to say, she wants to ask, but she's almost afraid to breach this subject; it's an old, sore wound; btter, infected.]

( Ana is not clueless by any stretch. Everything that she'd wished for Fareeha had been against Fareeha's own wants, and even though allowing her daughter to follow her dreams would have made her happy Ana had been stubbornly against it. 'Mother knows best', even with the rifts that followed. It hadn't caused her to relent any, hoping that one day Fareeha would understand (even if she still didn't agree), but other actions had stopped that day from coming.

This still wasn't that day, but there were some things her daughter needed to know. As much as Ana may have been against the course that Fareeha had pursued in life the person that she was -- the kind, strong, resilient person whom had taken in all that had been there (and more) -- did make her proud. Fareeha had acted for the right reasons, as Ana once had )
