Much as I would have preferred not to be pulled unceremoniously from my own world, it has occurred to me that this is a rare opportunity to learn about worlds I was previously unaware of.

[In other words, this is her polite way of saying "I'm bored, entertain me".]

How many are from worlds were magic exists? How many are from worlds where the technology is highly advanced?

[She's more interested in the magic portion, really, but she is curious about people's answers regardless.]

What is the government structure like in your world?

Inquiring minds want to know. Or this one does, at least.

Ah, there's the trick to the question. It's entirely subjective. Let us use the phones and the transportation available here as our measure of "average" for level of technology.

[All of the technology in her world has a magical component anyway.]

What sort of magic do people wield where you come from?

In that case, where I come from is more advanced by quite a bit but I wouldn't personally classify it as highly advanced. That, to me, would be like... Holograms and teleportation devices, that kind of thing.

[ Certain shows and movies would come to mind, if they could. ]

I don't really know too much about it, personally, but I think it's mostly protective spells and stuff. Not too many people are able to do it.

Magic is more common where I am from. Enough for there to be a magic council and established guilds for mages to join.

That sounds really cool. I'm guessing it's not all good people using good magic, though?

I would hesitate to use terms like good and evil when it comes to the magic and people of the world. Certainly, there are some who are more actively malicious and dangerous than others...but even the well thought of guilds can be a problem for those around them at times.

There is one legal guild known as Fairy Tail who has a reputation for extensive property destruction while simultaneously being known as a guild that is kind-hearted and accepting. Just as an example. On the reverse side, there are some dark guilds who take a lot of care to avoid collateral damage.

So basically it's a lot of grey, middle-of-the-road people and organizations, like most everything. [ She may be young, but she does understand that things aren't completely cut and dry, despite the question she asked. ] I guess it's good to know that it's like that in other worlds, not just in my own.

That's an accurate summary, yes. Most people would say it's wrong to kill someone, but when it becomes a matter of fighting for your country in a war, many relax their moral stances on the issue. Just as an example.

[Not that she generally tends to worry about moral justification, but encouraging people not to think in black and white is always a good thing.]

How does it work? Do you speak incantations, is it totally mind-controlled, do you need supplies? [ There's a brief pause and then she lets out a soft, quick huff of laughter. ] Sorry, I guess I'm being a little nosy. I'm just really curious about magic in other worlds, too.

It varies quite a bit. Mine is wielded primarily through my sword. One of my colleagues could enchant his hair and use it as a weapon. I fought a woman who could summon magical armour onto her body in an instant, once.

[ If only you could see the look on Allison's face right now... ]

Wait, he used his hair? Was it really long or something?

It was nearly down to his ankles, but magic allowed him to extend it even further. Imbued with magic, it was also prehensile and far stronger than ordinary hair. He could smash through rocks with it.

Wow. That's... [ She can't help but let out a laugh, although it's an amazed sound, not a "you're crazy" sort of thing. ] That actually sounds really cool. I can't even imagine the amount of split ends he has, though.
