since a whole bunch of you just got here, i just wanted to point out that if you need clothes altered or tailor made so you have more than just the clothes you got here in, i have a standing deal with delight: tell her one happy memory, and she'll give you a bolt of good cotton fabric in a solid color

[She's about to post this when she remembers her new bff, who goes just about everywhere with her. On most days. Unless he's hunting.]

[That last part is a lie, but she's just going to leave it at that.]

(ooc: Action logs with Emily (and Wolfie) at the shop can be done in Emily's inbox or in the log comm. She's there pretty much every day and makes it a point not to be too mean to people, which... isn't saying much! I'm also down to handwave meetings.)

[Hey, if you want to pledge that you owe Emily a debt, she's not going to stop you.]

If you can get something for the shop, that'd be cool, but that's up to you. Or you could, like, help make clothes too, since you said you know how to sew. There aren't a lot of people in the city, but Pell and I are doing all this by hand, so it takes a while. Another said of hands would help us out a lot.

[Especially if she makes her own clothes.]

I would be happy lend my skills with a needle. [It would keep her busy and it was something familiar that she did well.]

Perhaps you could show me what is commonly worn here?

Yeah, of course. [She's not just going to leave her to fend for herself.

Emily stands and goes to a mostly empty table. There are garments hanging from the back of each chair, so she grabs one -- a pair of long pants, and sets it out on the table.]

It's honestly pretty easy if you know the basics. Let's start with a pair of pants for you.

[Anne followed her, leaning in to watch intently.]

They aren't uncomfortable to wear every day? [It would be nice to be free of the heavy skirt and corset, at least. She was excited for something new and different.]

I like them.

No, they're the most comfortable thing to wear, actually. They don't get in the way of anything, they're not too warm and not too cold, you can run in them if you need to...

[sry2say, running is not an uncommon occurrence here.

Emily glances at Anne, giving her a quick little smile.] These are pretty basic. You can decorate them however you want, and we have dyes too if you want to try coloring lighter fabric.

[Making the pattern is easy enough to teach too. Emily feels comfortable with the process, and she looks it. Of course, it helps that Anne is interested and paying attention. Wolfie is, at the moment, out and about, so that's one less new thing for Anne to have to deal with.]

[Anne returned the smile before looking back at the pants.] I would love that! What kind of fabric do you have here?

[Anne is impressed with Emily's skill, reaching out to touch the fabric of the pants with one hand.] Can I try them on? Is there a private place to change?

Cotton, and whatever else you can find in clothes from the shops. [Emily shrugs.]

Yeah, sure. That door over there is like a little storage room. That's what I've been using to try things on.

Thank you! [Anne carefully took the pants as she made her way to the storage room. Once the door was closed managed to get out of her outer skirts and bodice easily enough until she realized she didn't have one of her ladies to undo her laces and she knew she wasn't going to be able to do it by herself.

She opened the door, peeking out with a smile.]

Could you help me with my corset laces for just a moment? I've never had to undo them by myself.

[Emily had gone back to work -- grabbing a piece of chalk and some scissors for Anne, plus the tape measure -- when Anne called to her.]

Oh yeah, sure. [It'll be nice, she thinks, to help Anne get changed. Like when she and Jess would go shopping together, trying on one outfit after the other.

She's never worked with a real corset before (and she can tell it's real, holy shit) but she figures it out quickly enough, careful with the laces as she would be with any fine garment.]

Did you get this custom made? It's so nice.

Thank you, I've never had to do this without my ladies before. [She said as she moved her hair out of the way so Emily could untie the laces easier. She let out a breath as the corset loosened, it would be nice not having to wear this all the time even if it would be strange at first.

I did, my seamstresses are very talented. [She gave Emily a grateful smile before slipping back into the storage room once the laces were undone to finish undressing. It took a moment to figure out how the zipper and buttons worked on the jeans. She wasn't sure how she looked, she felt so naked without the yards of fabric around her. She kept her chemise on to cover up top as she stepped out of the storage room so Emily could see.]

How do I look?

[Her ladies? Emily holds onto that thought as she waits for Anne to step out with the jeans on.]

I like it. That fit is good on you. It shows off your legs really well. All you need is a different top and you could blend right in if you wanted.

[But hold on. Ladies and seamstresses. Plural.]

So, where you're from, are you a noblewoman or something?

What kind of top would you recommend?

[She paused at Emily's question before nodding with a shy smile.]

I suppose it is rather obvious, isn't it? But yes, I am of noble birth but I assume my title does not count here.

[She needed to be free of being the queen for a little bit.]

Just about anything. A tank top with a jacket over it, so you can be ready for if it's warm or not here.

[Fashion can be both beautiful and practical, especially here.]

Oh cool. I grew up with a lot of money back home, but that's not the same. [It's not like she was responsible for a geographic region or anything.] Anyway, yeah, none of that means anything here. We had some princess here for a little while who acted like being royalty actually mattered here. So annoying. She didn't last very long. Guess the Door had enough sense to take her back.

What is a tank top?

[Anne likes jeans so far, she feels so liberated from the skirts and corset. She paused as she listened to Emily talk about the princess, frowning slightly.]

It seems she hasn't learned that royalty isn't just a title, it's not something to be flaunted. A royal is nothing without their people and it's their duty to serve their people.

[It's something she wouldn't wish on anyone.]

[This is not the first time that question has come up in this place, and by now, Emily has a good number of sketches to show people. She hands one of them to Anne so she can see.] They're super comfortable.

[Admittedly, Emily has never spent much time thinking about what it means to run a country, either in the past or the present. As far as she has thought about it, though, she believes that the people in charge have to think of the people who've put them in power.

It's good to know that wherever Anne is from, she understands the responsibility of her social class.]

I know, right? Even Hope gets that he has to listen to us and keep us mostly safe.

[Anne took the sketch, peering at it.]

There are no sleeves! This is something that's worn without any kind of covering?

[Anne smiled at Emily agreement, nodding.]

I admit that it is nice to set aside my title, even just for a bit. I have never been just...myself. And I suppose it's only fitting that I have new clothes to go with this change.
