(Oh how he wishes he could simply write this instead of speaking to the populace directly. But his conscience will not allow him to take the easy way out.)
I wish to apologize profusely for my behavior. (He will not name anyone specifically - and further embarrass them - but his dark head is hanging dejectedly.)
For those who desired an Elvish sword, I have made five. You are welcome to come by the Forge to test them for yourself. I am certain you will not damage them.
(Because he made them and his works last.)

[His smile is friendly, his tone cheerful, and his dark sloe eyes full of curiosity as he asks in his New Orleans accent:]
Ah, a smith? That's good, and very helpful! Thank you.
You needn't thank me. I enjoy my work. (It runs in his family; it began with his grandfather - the greatest Smith on Middle Earth. Celebrimbor is technically the second best Smith, but he won't admit to such.)
Helpin' people out always deserves thanks.
[He says this with complete certainty. That, and Amos was raised to be very polite. Particularly when it involves the fae. Being rude, in his world, can get one cursed or eaten.]
[He's sitting outside in the orchard, and one of the jabberjays flies down to land fearlessly on his shoulder. Amos does not flinch or blink at the landing, having "heard" the bird's intention, and merely tips his head a little to give the jay an easier landing. He digs in his pocket and produces a handful of breadcrumbs, holding this up for his avian friend even as he continues talking.]
Especially when you didn't haveta in the first place. So. Thank you.

(Their situation is more dire than many realize. One move in the wrong direction and the Hadriel they know will shatter or fall into utter chaos. It's difficult to remember such when Celebrimbor sees the bird, however.)
You make friends with ease. Is he a companion of yours?
[Cooperation is to their advantage and survival, but the unity that once blessed the cave fell apart in Amos' absence. Understandable, given all the different factors working against it, but no less disturbing to see.]
Not really? The jays don't belong here either.
I can talk with animals. So most of them like me.
[He smiles, even as the bird pecks at one of his many earrings. Shiny!]
(He cannot blame them for keeping to themselves, resources and all. It is normal when one is faced with surviving or not.)
I have an uncle who possesses that gift. My jealousy is great!
(But his expression is gently amused.)
What does he say?
They talk a lot, but it's mostly what matters to them.
So food, territory, that kinda thing. They like shiny things, though, they think they're interesting.
[Thus the fascination with Amos's multiple ear piercings. Definitely not edible but fun to peck, especially when it gets a reaction from him. Amos is of the firm belief most animals and small children are on the same mental level when it comes to entertainment: any reaction is funny for a minute.]
He is welcome to peck me too.
Careful givin' that permission, ya can't take it back!
[But he says it with a smile and playful teasing. Feeling his surge in mood, the jay warbles a happy note at him and takes off from his shoulder. Amos gives a sudden shrug, to help with the lift: the most energy-consuming move any bird makes is taking off.]
