[There's something distinctly different about Fear when he turns the video on this time. He seems even less human than normal, not breathing, not blinking, as if he's forgotten how to manipulate his form so that it actually appears lifelike.

He manages to move his mouth as he speaks, but the motion doesn't quite sync up with the words echoed in through the mic.]

...so I've finally failed.

[His eyes are unfocused, but he looks downward, contemplative.]

I only got half the city out. It won't be enough- we can't start over, not without Hope. So it ends here, I suppose.

[He takes in his first breath since beginning the recording, letting it out in a long sigh.]

I'm sorry.

[It takes a bit before Chara responds. It's not Sans's fault that half of Hadriel is somewhere else.

They note his location first and decide to go with that.]

What are you doing right now?

[Short answer, to the point, but informative enough.]

If there's a way to boost this network signal, we're gonna figure what it is.

[Chara has a "plan" in mind themselves, but this was also a very good idea.]

[Give them something to do Sans.]

[Only a second of hesitation. Ain't much like sit tight and wait is gonna serve 'em real well in a situation like this. Chara needs action, something to do. That much is pretty damn apparent.]

Parts. Anything mechanical. City's gotta have stuff lying around we can use.

[Only the barest of pauses before he adds, the lights in his sockets flicking up to meet their gaze:]

Take someone with you, if you can. Place is crawling with stuff out to eat us.

[They both know that Sans would have to hogtie them to a chair if he wanted them to sit tight and wait. Giving them something to do that isn't their own plan is probably for the best.]

I will see if I can find someone to come with me. [Or not, more than likely.] And I will find the parts.

[Anything to get the network going so they can find out what's going on over where Frisk and Asriel are.]

[Despite the rictus stretched across his face, the words are sincere. Even if the please that should be tacked after goes unspoken.]

[There's a joke to be had here, a lot of jokes.

But they're not in the mood for it. Instead they just stare into the feed. Chara's not smiling. They're not...anything, right now.]

[And they cut the feed.]
