[There's something distinctly different about Fear when he turns the video on this time. He seems even less human than normal, not breathing, not blinking, as if he's forgotten how to manipulate his form so that it actually appears lifelike.

He manages to move his mouth as he speaks, but the motion doesn't quite sync up with the words echoed in through the mic.]

...so I've finally failed.

[His eyes are unfocused, but he looks downward, contemplative.]

I only got half the city out. It won't be enough- we can't start over, not without Hope. So it ends here, I suppose.

[He takes in his first breath since beginning the recording, letting it out in a long sigh.]

All right. We can get whatever members of the Guard're on this side on it. Even if we gotta do it by word of mouth. Hold 'em off as long as we can.

Great. If we can just hold things together long enough for Fear to reunite the city - well, there's not a whole lot of hope, frankly, but that's probably the only way for everyone to make it.

So...stay afraid, basically.

[For all the cheery levity to the words, it's clear that they probably won't need to fabricate any fear to fuel the end solution. Way things're going, it'll happen all on its own.]

If you're on Fear's side, anyway. It won't do too much over here. We've just got to try to keep our half of the city together.

[Well, good. Then he's gonna stay happily focused on his own end goal in the meantime.]

He's been keeping us hidden for months. We don't really have another option right now.

[Is this the time to be fishing for information? Probably not, no. He'll still take what he can get.]

Teleporting us from place to place regularly so they can't track us down. We've been more or less safe. You guys too, until now.

The entire cave?

[So that does make it, effectively, its own pocket dimension.]

It's really just its own little world, huh?

Sort of like one, yeah. He moves the whole thing, tunnels and all. It's the best way to do it.

[Cripes. All those times he said there might not even be a surface to go to - that was right on the money, huh?]

Best way to do what? Keep everybody safe from whatever killed you all in the first place?

Sort of, I guess. And yeah. If we're constantly on the move, there's less chance of them tracking us down. Or there was, anyway.

[He lets the word linger in the air for a moment before pressing onward, low and steady.]

So this split - it's left us wide open. For whoever they are.

Yeah. I don't know how they found us, but with us divided like this the city's a lot less protected. And you guys are, too.

[And something that can bring down gods, entire powerful entities - hell. Not like any of 'em could stand a chance, could they?]

How soon would we know if they found us?

Well, I mean, we know they found half the city. We've just got to get that half back over here, where it's safe - for now.

Hope's half?

[Shit. Shit. Frisk is there, Asriel, Shadow, half the damn cave. Here he thought it was this side that weren't safe. Shouldn't've bothered with the assumptions again, huh?]

What kinda danger are they in?

If those things get through the tunnels into the main cave, they'll probably all end up dead.

[He's blunt, because there's not much use sugarcoating things right now.]

Unless Fear can get them out of there.

[Those things. Whatever the hell they are. Which begs the question - ]

So what are they, exactly? Those things?

Something mechanical. Or technological, I guess. That's never been our area, you know? Anyway, they hate us.

Yeah, but why? The two of you have a war or somethin'?

[In his experience, there's generally a why.]

They really don't like what we can do. We used to get along, though.

[What they can do. Subsist off emotions alone? Assume physical form on a whim?]

So what are they?

Uh, I don't know what you'd call them. Robots? Machines? Something like that. Not organic beings, anyway.

[Not organic. So what does that mean for everybody else? Are they just gonna get - mowed down?]
