Hadriel.
[His address begins in a straightforward tone. The issues of the past few months are behind them, and they've eked out survival for awhile longer. Sorrow isn't optimistic, but he's not inclined to give up, either. He makes plans, he executes them, he lets things fall into place.
Which is the reason for this.]
Now that most of you know the truth, and now that it has been shown that these creatures will truly follow us to the ends of creation, I have decided to send two of us to scout the location we left behind and intercept with the forces of the machines there. Their purpose would be to gather information- how these inorganics continue to find us, how we might be able to thwart their technology in an attempt to escape for good.
Of the eight of us, there are four pairs which work better together than others. Hope has asked me to let you decide who is to go, but I warn you to consider your options carefully. The gods who leave will not have any events until they return, so we'll throw a large one for their departure.
[Sorrow takes a deep breath. Onto the selection.]
Hope and myself could go. This would leave you without replenishing food and water, as well as limited methods of revival... Hope is valuable, and I would do everything in my power to protect him, and I can also ensure that we're not discovered.
Your second option would be Confusion and Tranquility. The two of them are our builders, and without them, the city will not be repaired and their various contributions will not be functional. Confusion would be adept at avoiding capture, though detection is another story.
Thirdly are Fear and Love. Fear... [He sighs.] Fear operates best in the shadows, though he's still weakened- however, if he leaves, it will mean that we'd be left vulnerable if attacked again, as none of the rest of us can move the city. Love themself is... well, perhaps they can be used as a distraction if Fear needs to escape.
[Sorry, Love.]
Finally, you have Delight and Rage. Since Delight is no longer maintaining the bar, your only significant losses with both of them would be the ongoing deals any of you may have with each of them. The two of them are our most accomplished fighters and would be able to wrestle themselves out of an unfavorable situation, given the power they'd take on from their final event.
[So that's that.]
I welcome any questions you may have.

Also, why not send some of us?

[The quality of those arrivals goes unsaid.]
And as much as it seems irresponsible, Fear's abilities would suit him particularly well in this endeavor.
We have no way of transporting you without Fear's transfers and no way to quietly sustain your lives in a location without atmosphere. Any attempts to keep you alive would consume energy better spent elsewhere.

Em's right about the stuff with Delight, and with Rage gone we'll also be losing out on renewing our ammo. So sending the two of them means no coffee, no nicer clothes, and no bullets.

[And she likes the things Rage and Delight provide, so...her vote definitely went to Confusion and Tranquility.]
The things after us are "inorganics"? What does that even mean?

[He reasons.]
They are mechanical. Not bound to a single form, but large in number and overwhelming.

Is there a specific reason why these pairs are the only options?
[There's eight of them, after all, and so several other ways to combine into groups of two.]
[Other combinations would likely be easier options, but...]
Our different personalities, relationships with one another, and style of work typically leaves very limited options. Plus, if the two who are sent out are killed, then I'd prefer it to be a blow that is somehow possible to recover from.

This is ridiculous. No one is going to think carefully before voting! People are going to panic and send the 'best fighters' out because low and behold we go without extra food, repairs or GPS for a while... We're in a cave for crying out loud people, we don't need certain things!
Think about it logically for a change if you can... It's a reconnaissance mission, so send the God who can guarantee they are not going to be found. We don't need a fight, we don't need to run the risk of them getting caught. In and out, done...
How hard is it really, to not kill each other and ration food for a while?
Think about it! Confusion could forget what she's even doing out there, or bring back totally useless information and Tranquility, well... They'll probably get caught. Fear isn't at full strength right now and what's the point in sending him with a totally pointless God?! And yes, Rage and Delight can take care of themselves, but it's not a fighting mission! We need subtle Gods that won't get caught.
We need to send Sorrow and Hope. It's the logical thing to do.
[ He huffs, resigning to the fact he's probably talking to himself on this. ]
voice;
What if Hope doesn't come back? I mean, sure, in the short term we can probably get by without him, but long term he's... Kind of super important. Also he's the one who revived all the other gods except Fear, so he's kind of the only chance for any of them if anything happens to them, whether on this whole expedition thing or later on.
[Also Chris likes Hope a lot, but he's trying to look at it just logically for the moment.]

We care because we have to, because no matter what the gods do we still live here. And if anything happens to us, then they don't get any power, and they won't be able to do anything. If they have power than maybe they can send us all home one day.

I understand that it's probably too dangerous to take any of us with you, but is there any other way to help?

[ SOMEONE has abandonment issues, okay... She's not about to let her favorite god go off and get killed. Not that she thinks he isn't capable, of course, but still! ]
And I know my bias is clouding my judgement so I don't wanna hear it from you, dude. [ Talking to Sorrow here, ok. ]
This is a scouting mission, so obviously the most stealthy should go. Not the fighters. We need the warriors here if something goes wrong and we're found out. And sometimes sacrifice is demanded, so... I'm going with Fear and Love.
Sorry, Fear. I know you've had a rough go of it, but you're the best at what you do. [ She won't mention that she's a bit bitter about Love right now in the wake of Faith's absence. It's not Love's fault but it still stings like a bitch and she'd rather not deal with warm fuzzies anytime soon. ]

Sending Hope and Sorrow might be a tactically sound plan if this were a shorter term reconaissance mission, lasting less than one Door cycle. We managed for about two weeks successfully enough. However, as Sorrow has already indicated that this will be for multiple cycles...that is several months of having to fish and hunt the cave creatures rather than having a proper food supply.
[She was willing to help with hunting and fighting to benefit the community as a whole when her half of the town was being attacked by cave monsters and lacking in food because that was out of their control. If people choose to send the gods who supply them with essential things, she's not going to lift a finger to help anyone that made that foolsh choice.]
Fear is in a weakened state as is, and is responsible for moving us away from the enemy. Love is neither a combatant nor someone particularly suited to stealth.
[Another bad choice. The worst choice, really.]
The smartest choices are either Rage and Delight or Confusion and Tranquility. They are capable, and we will not be struggling for basic essentials necessary for survival.
audio..
You're Sorrow, aren't you? [ It's hard not to narrow it down from the description of the gods she's gotten, and that his name was left off because he referred to himself. She knows now isn't the time to bother him with needless questions people have answered for her, and that he's probably been asked before. So, she maintains the problem at hand, one that's in her hands, at least partially. She's aware of what rationing is, though she's never had to do that, but it seems if any god stayed, Hope would be her definite choice. But, the more she thinks about it, the more she thinks this is Tranquility's opinion. To Elena, the answer Tranquility wants is clear. He wants Hope and himself to go, that's what she feels. ] There are people here [ like her, human ] who need replenishing food and water. And, if the city's attacked again, we'd need one of you to be there, we'd need Fear. [ The practical decision, from what Tranquility says, would be Delight and Rage. ] Without Confusion and Tranquility the city wouldn't be repaired. Are you saying we're not capable? According to you, the choice should be simple: Delight and Rage. If we don't have any favors with them, or, from them, it doesn't sound like it will effect us. But, you said it yourself, you and Hope would make a good team and you'd protect Hope. [ She works through it, putting pieces together. ]
You all talked it out, didn't you? And you decided to leave it up to us. If it weren't up to us, if you could decide, what choice would you make?
[ She thinks Sorrow would choose himself and Hope. ]
audio
[He hums in agreement.]
The end result was that many of us are stubborn and want to be the ones to go, if it means saving everyone else. If it were my decision, I would send Fear or Confusion- Delight and Rage would be able to defend themselves, but their ability to gather information is limited. I don't want Hope to go, and I can admit that I would be preoccupied with making sure he survives if we were the ones selected- but I'm also skilled at making decisions and I would be able to guide the two of us to a safer success.
[Fear is the riskier option for the people back home, Confusion is riskier for the gods going away, Rage risks not gathering enough information, and Sorrow would rather play it too safe. It's really anyone's game at this point.]
I believe Delight and Rage have several ongoing deals- you'd have to ask them about the details.

No one with any common sense would buy into believing that a group of beings that call themselves gods would actually care about the lowly opinions of a bunch of, oh, pitiful souls brought here against their will.
Sorry for the cynicism, but all I care about is making sure that people don't die. Not that any of you would actually care about that, right? [ The GODS, people, not the...other people who's lives are at risk. ] Are you going to force people into casting their vote, too?

[Their civilization is at risk, after all.]
Some of them are more stubborn about it than others, but we all know what's at stake. Most of us have died before in an attempt to secure our freedom and we are prepared to do so again.
