Fifth ☂ Voice

Hadriel.

[His address begins in a straightforward tone. The issues of the past few months are behind them, and they've eked out survival for awhile longer. Sorrow isn't optimistic, but he's not inclined to give up, either. He makes plans, he executes them, he lets things fall into place.

Which is the reason for this.]

Now that most of you know the truth, and now that it has been shown that these creatures will truly follow us to the ends of creation, I have decided to send two of us to scout the location we left behind and intercept with the forces of the machines there. Their purpose would be to gather information- how these inorganics continue to find us, how we might be able to thwart their technology in an attempt to escape for good.

Of the eight of us, there are four pairs which work better together than others. Hope has asked me to let you decide who is to go, but I warn you to consider your options carefully. The gods who leave will not have any events until they return, so we'll throw a large one for their departure.

[Sorrow takes a deep breath. Onto the selection.]

Hope and myself could go. This would leave you without replenishing food and water, as well as limited methods of revival... Hope is valuable, and I would do everything in my power to protect him, and I can also ensure that we're not discovered.

Your second option would be Confusion and Tranquility. The two of them are our builders, and without them, the city will not be repaired and their various contributions will not be functional. Confusion would be adept at avoiding capture, though detection is another story.

Thirdly are Fear and Love. Fear... [He sighs.] Fear operates best in the shadows, though he's still weakened- however, if he leaves, it will mean that we'd be left vulnerable if attacked again, as none of the rest of us can move the city. Love themself is... well, perhaps they can be used as a distraction if Fear needs to escape.

[Sorry, Love.]

Finally, you have Delight and Rage. Since Delight is no longer maintaining the bar, your only significant losses with both of them would be the ongoing deals any of you may have with each of them. The two of them are our most accomplished fighters and would be able to wrestle themselves out of an unfavorable situation, given the power they'd take on from their final event.

[So that's that.]

I welcome any questions you may have.

[Andros wasn't that bad. He just had some awkward social skills after having been in isolation for years. That and all the trauma he'd been through, he didn't people well. Truth be told his team was pretty happy as long as he remembered to say please and thank you.]

You might say that. I've got a team I lead back home. Democracy is great and has it's place but, not in certain situations. You have to trust that someone knows what they are doing and will make the right decisions.

[He couldn't imagine a Ranger team without a leader. It'd be chaos. You had to fight as one. Either you had to be incredibly in sync with your team or you had a leader.]

I agree with your concerns. I haven't been here long enough though to figure out what to do about it.

[ Awkward social skills you say? Maybe they have more in comment after all? ]

Again, I agree. Democracy can only work if we all have trust in the ones we're appointing to make the decisions. However, I don't see a dictatorship working out either...

[ Will was starting to be thankful there were people like Andros here at least. People with like-minded thinking and who weren't so easily guided by their feelings for certain Gods. ]

I don't think any of us really have... I'm not even sure if it's worth letting us vote on this or not.

[Andros, on the contrary, often let his emotions guide him, they got very much in the way. He was strong willed, stubborn and often blinded. It helped that those triggers for those emotions were not in Hadriel. It was easier to think clearly. This wasn't personal]

I wouldn't recommend a dictatorship either. But, this is all pointless. We will have to live with the results as best we can. We should start organizing supplies, rationing what we have in the event that we are low on food and necessities. We should be prepared.

That's a good idea, I was going to suggest something similar myself. I'm a good fisherman and there are ways to smoke and dry the fish I catch. I could try and push myself a little harder and double my catch each day. My housemate is a wonderful cook, he can make anything taste great, even some of the monster carcasses from the tunnels.

[ Yes, yes they could make this work. Gather as much food as they could and ration it out to those who had less. Maybe set up in one of the remaining Gods temples so they could keep a better eye on who was taking what and when.

If they could all pull together, this could be a done with as little fuss and discomfort as possible. ]

[Andros was definitely a fan of using a central location, or even two depending on how he occupied spires were located so no one had to travel too far. ]

I have no cooking skills. I've actually been eating out of cans, but I can kill monsters if your housemate wants to cook something a little more adventurous. Maybe just don't tell people what it is.

[Andros had seen first hand what people thought when he tried to get them started on more unusual, alien cuisine. Maybe if they could make it look 'normal' it wouldn't be so bad.]

[ It was a good idea. They could set up in one of the temples and even hand out supplies on their way back to their own apartments. It could work, no matter which pair of Gods is sent out.

Feeling a bit better about it all now, Will took a deep breath, held it and let it go happily. ]

I can do that and I'm sure Hannibal will welcome an excuse to cook for more than just himself and me.
