Heya, guys. I'm sure a few of you um, already know what I'm gonna say.
[Chris definitely doesn't look as cheery as usual, but also not terribly upset; mostly he just seems a little drained, but otherwise calm enough.]
Em's uh... Emily's gone. So I guess I'm gonna have to take over for her in the 'telling people like it is' department, and I'd add like, the 'being right' one but I'm already right at least as often as she is. However, I'm totally not doing the sewing or getting up early to run the coffee cart parts. Gonna need other people to step in on those.
[And okay, joking aside, he takes a deep breath and continues.]
I know um, I know a lot of people here knew her, but not necessarily much about uh... What we're going back to, at home, since I don't think she talked about it much. So if anyone has any questions about that, I can probably answer, and hopefully that'll make things... You know. A little easier?
[Worrying about what people are returning to is usually the hardest part on him, when someone leaves, after all. Oh, and one more thing--]
Wolfie's still here, by the way. So no one freak if you see him with me; as Em always said, he only bites if you're an asshole.

I think I'm okay, at least... You know. Right now.
[He knows Emily lives, back home. It's going to be a difficult road for her, and the rest of them, but he'll see her again; whether or not either of them will remember what happened here and how good of friends they ended up, who knows. But they'll have the chance, at least, and that's more than he can say about a lot of people.
So he's handling it, for the moment anyway.]
B-But um... If that changes...
[He might take her up on the offer.]
audio
Yeah, of course. ]
I'm just a call or text away.
audio
[He means it, and it's a little weird to think about having this kind of conversation with Sharon considering how much they'd disagreed about things for so long. But it's a nice weird, for sure.
But he doesn't want to dwell on this topic any longer, and tries to turn the conversation around a little bit; it's been a few weeks since he talked to her, after all, even if the events have been pretty tame.]
How um, how've you been doing?
audio
I've been all right. I'm kind of starting to get tired of losing people, even the ones I don't care for. I always wonder who's next. [ And it's terrifying. Like a heavy weight. They'd already lost Chris once. They lost Kate, and Faith, and Arya, and Near and it's just not fucking fair. Not for any of them. ]
I'm holding up though, like usual.
audio
[Not just in that losing people is hard, but trying to figure out and deal with all the comings and goings, and whether they're going to help or cause problems or whatever else, just gets really old.]
Holding up's pretty much all we can ask for, I guess.

audio
[But he's particularly easygoing, and adaptable. It served him really well on the mountain, and it's been doing so here as well especially lately; or, maybe he's just kind of gone numb to it. Either way.]
audio
audio
Maybe, yeah. Or just a personality difference, or I drank too much in high school and zapped my brain.
[He's joking with that last part, but he thinks they could use the mood lightener.]
audio
audio
My ruse is working, then. No, I was totally that asshole who went to every underage high school party and didn't study and still aced all my tests.
[What a good life high school was, and then he actually had to pay attention in college. Then after the accident on the mountain with the twins, the whole appeal of getting super drunk really lost its appeal.]
audio
audio
[He's totally unbothered by the teasing jabs; high school him deserves it.]
audio
audio
And, knowing you're being sarcastic, I can say hey, I totally was pretty popular. Who wouldn't want to be friends with someone who had mastered the art of doing well in school and underage binge drinking?

audio
[Mike's a bit more than that, and great to have around in an emergency, but Sharon's not wrong either.]
He was prom king. I'm sure you're like, totally shocked.
audio
No way, never would have guessed. How'd you end up friends with him?
audio
No idea. I mean like... Our whole group makes no sense; I think maybe I met him through Em? Or Josh knew him? We just started hanging out one day.
[It's really a wonder the ten--and then eight, and now who even knows--of them had gotten along as well as they did.]
audio
It sounds like you were... like you were really lucky, Chris.
audio
[He doesn't have any problem admitting it, although his tone is also a little softer; he knows he had things a lot better than many other people did. He also knows that's all up in the air now, after what happened on the mountain, but he's been trying to think positively about it; after everything those of the group have accomplished while in Hadriel--in getting along, in putting the past behind them, in working things out and being a team--he feels like he should have faith that they can do it at home too. They'll be a smaller group, but maybe a stronger one.]
audio
audio
[Normal stuff, but still not great.]
Josh also kind of flipped out on us and set up a bunch of death traps, and then we got attacked by monsters.
[So there's that; no matter how normal they all were--and are--that doesn't mean there's a lack of horror. And morbid jokes are totally the way to deal with this conversation, right?]
