Hello, fellow abductees,

It has come to my attention that a number of you do not like Dr. Sweets. I did not like him either when I first met him, so this is understandable.

In an effort to help strengthen his standing within the community, I am requesting that you please state if you do or do not like Dr. Sweets, and why. Please also respond if you are indifferent on him, as more data will allow me to form a more complete and accurate conclusion.

Why did you not like him? He seems a personable enough individual, and tis not everyone who will offer help to those he knows not so freely.

I dislike psychology and so distrusted him immediately. He has since proven to be very likable.

Psychology... that is what he does, yes? What is there about it that is unlikeable?

There are many things about psychology that I find unlikeable. It is a soft science, which means it depends very little on empiricism and testable data to arrive at conclusions. It allows for far too much conjecture based on circumstancial "evidence" and other factors which cannot be measured, and it sees "deeper" meaning where there is none.

I believe Dr. Sweets's intelligence is to be respected, but I have significant doubts about his profession as a whole.

Ah, I see. And yet emotions are by definition not things that can be touched or held, or even, in that sense, truly controlled, not entirely. Thus it would follow, surely, that a profession that works with such things is equally as ah, 'soft', no?

Then in that case, is not illogical to dislike him, purely on the basis of his work, as it follows that because he works with, ah... non-quantifiable, did I say that right? topics, as that is in itself an emotional response, thus proving that such work is needed at all?

I do not dislike him. I dislike his profession. My dislike is based on sound logical arguments. Emotions are a biological and chemical part of the experience of living, but they cannot be quantified. I dislike psychology because it claims to be a science, when it is at best a soft science. I do not consider psychologists to be scientists in the same way that I am.

Ah, but you said at the beginning that you disliked him, I do believe. So then, your dislike of his profession cause you to falsely judge the man, yes?

[Haha no that is superstition. She is not superstitious.]

No. I disliked him because of his persistent attempts to apply his training to my partner and me even outside of our sessions with him.

Ah, now you make more sense - that is a far more logical reason to dislike someone. You should have mentioned that, you know! And you might mention it to Dr Sweets as well, as doubtless he would not be pleased to realise he overstepped his bounds.

It was not relevant. I have spoken with him about it. It was a long time ago.

So long as things are resolved between you, that is well.

............... I ... did enjoy our brief talk, no matter the... illusion of the subject matter. I was... wondering if you would be ammenable to meet again, this time without the false pretences forced on us.

I am surprised you do not wish to completely forget that week, like most people seem to. We did have a pleasant conversation, so I am not opposed to meeting properly now that we are our true selves again.

It... was nice to have... pleasant memories, for a change. So I... do not mind it, as much as some. But it would be good to learn of those who I considered friend in a dream, and see if those relationships might be able to be built in truth.

I have many pleasant memories, but very few of any kind of memory of my time here, so I do not find that I am affected much by what occurred.

That is good! I am but newly arrived, myself. But it was ... nice. To be able to have, for a while, a happy home with neither war nor grief to darken it. Unrealistic, I know, but nice all the same.

The absence of difficult memories was interesting to experience, but I still prefer my reality.

Dreams are always less useful than reality. But sometimes reality can be grievous enough to tempt one to remain in dreams.

Yes, but reality can be worked in to effect change.

But one can only change the future, and not the past.

That was never in question.

True! But sometimes it is the past that one wants to change, even though one knows, clearly, that it would be not only impossible but inadvisable.

That is a waste of time. If you are aware it is impossible and yet still dwell on it, you are engaging in a completely useless thought pattern.

It is. But it is one that many find themselves drawn into, for who does not have regret?
