Some things worth noting:
1. You can apparently be brought back to your home world and it's as if you've never left it at all. You can be there for weeks, months at a time and then one day, show back up back here and it's only been a day or so here that you've missed. I don't know if anyone else has had this experience before.
It is unpleasant.
2. I went into the tunnels to see if they were anything like the Maze I know of back in my world. There's two interesting things worth noting. The rock inside of the tunnel is different than out in the main area. Not sure if anyone's noticed this yet. It's strange.
But there's something stranger that we found in the tunnels. Deep inside, a ways in, there was a burnt computer chip. Totally useless but it was stranger than the formations almost.
That's about it. I figured it's more valuable to pool our information together rather than hog it to myself. Not going to find any answers that way. In my opinion, if there's tunnels and tunnels made out of different rock then that's got to mean there must be some sort of way out of here. Or at least another place to be found. I didn't explore the entirety of the tunnels and I don't really want to but it is possible.
If you do, run fast, take weapons, and try to remember everything. Back in the Maze, we'd send people in and they'd come back at the end of the day and record the route they took on a piece of paper.
Maybe that wouldn't be a bad place to start. It helped us figure the Maze in the end. Maybe the tunnels will be the same.

[to be honest, peter doesn't look at newt and see the terrible hair and the bags under his eyes or the way his collarbones stick out too far. he just sees newt, and newt had been determined to find a way out.]
no subject
(He had been but that was before and this is now. Now he just wanted to shrug it off onto someone else because frankly, it's been a challenge getting out of bed lately let alone organizing full blown Maze/Tunnel expeditions.
This was gonna be a day by day process here.)
This place is large. I walked around it once along the wall- it's pretty encompassing. We can find somewhere out of the way.
no subject
[the idea seems to actively agitate him, even. there's just too many people, too many opportunities for discovery. he reaches over and rubs at one of the short, healthy patches of newt's hair, which is bristly and kind of nice to touch, in a way.]
Sorry. I keep forgetting you aren't at your best. Which sounds stupid, but...
[he shrugs. it's the truth.]
no subject
(He does look a little guilty. It was hardly like he was trying to make the situation difficult for Peter. He just really did not think he'd be able to handle the tunnels like he was. It made his stomach churn just to think about it.
Granted, it made his stomach churn to think about being out in public in general as of late but hey. Details. He's distracted though from overthinking by a hand in his hair and he naturally just tips his head into it.)
It's okay.
(He sighs a bit, eyes shifting away.)
I'm trying not to be such a burden so it's not like I can really get annoyed at you for forgetting. It's frustrating for me too, you know. But...I...want to be able to help you still. If I can. At least with this.
no subject
You're not a burden, you dumbass. Stop saying that. I don't do jack shit for anyone that I don't wanna do, you included.
no subject
He mostly hasn't been bothering lately, truth be told. He'd lost most of his energy for even their typical notatallflirting bantering. But just then, he scoffs the quietest bit and even rolls his eyes a bit.)
Because you're such a big, bad, heartless wolf.
(And it's probably the first time in days since he's gotten back that he's bothered with that kind of retort at all.)
no subject
[sometimes he wishes he was more heartless, because newt bantering back fills him with a terrible kind of joy that almost makes him hate himself a little for being so relieved. newt is newt is newt, but just because peter forgets that he's all messed up right now doesn't mean he doesn't notice when there's a moment of normalcy again.]
no subject
Bad? You? No offense, Peter, but I'm officially the last person you will ever be able to convince of that.
(And as if to prove this very point, Newt shifts over and proceeds to lay down against the couch and deposit his head into Peter's lap like it belongs there. He rolls over onto his back and looks up at Peter, blinking, as if to say See?)
no subject
[in truth, peter doesn't mind the failure to be considered truly bad, because he's pretty lousy at it unless he does something ragingly assholish. he stares down at newt and sighs a deep sigh, as though that's going to do anything to dislodge newt. he drapes an arm across newt's chest and puts the other up back behind his head and closes his eyes.]
no subject
(It's actually a little nice to be like this again with the guy. Not that it was about to last but...
Newt idly rests a hand over Peter's. Totally not holding it just you know. Acknowledging its presence. With his own hand.
He's watching Peter, biting at the inside of his own mouth. Eventually, he clears his throat.)
Ah...Peter. I know I'm- uh. Keeping you up and stuff at night. I can sleep in another room at night. It's okay, I really don't mind. Just cause I can't sleep doesn't mean you shouldn't either.
no subject
[he shakes newt gently with the hand that's beneath newt's hand, still not opening his eyes.]
Get it through that big thick genius brain of yours. I don't have to do jack shit for anybody. I choose to do things. Quit making that into a bigger deal than it is.
no subject
(There's the slightest smile evident in his voice.)
Though it is kind of a big deal. For me, anyway.
no subject
[he's clearly kidding.]
Just...Rumanceks, we take care of our own, okay? So you don't have to worry about that.
no subject
Oh, yeah. So what, am I your adopted cousin number two?
no subject
Nah, you're Newt. Unless you wanna be a cousin, I guess that could be arranged. But I'm still gonna call you kitten.
no subject
I don't think I want to be a cousin. That feels weird.
(Yeah wonder why.)
You're not really familial to me. Mostly because of stuff like that.
no subject
Yeah, it does.
I didn't exactly mean familial. Just that I'm a Rumancek, and we take care of our own.
[which doesn't necessarily have to mean other rumanceks.]
no subject
You know, I feel like I'm missing something here.
no subject
You're my friend, kitten. Those are few and far between for me. So of course I take care of them.
no subject
Yeah, okay.
no subject
You look disappointed. Is being the closest friend of a guy who doesn't do friends not a good enough answer?
no subject
(Except Newt still felt like something was off. It felt like it should be obvious but it just wasn't clicking into place.
And did he look disappointed? It's enough to wind his brain further and he wound up just looking up at Peter. It was probably one of the more confusing moments of his life, truth be told. Being sad and happy at the exact same time. His brow smoothed out from its confused furrow but his frown remained. Slowly though, the frown twitched into a smile.)
I'm your closest friend?
no subject
[he pokes newt lightly in the belly, as though scolding him for not listening.]
I don't let just anybody use me as a headrest, you know.
no subject
Well-
No wait. No.
Nope.
Wait a second. Newt slowly sat up and sat himself next to Peter, frowning again.)
Oh.
(He mumbled the word, feeling a bit stupid. Then he promptly shoves a hand over his own face and just kind of sighs.)
Yeah, no. I know. Great. And I don't just- right. Oh my god.
(He was literally so stupid. Probably the stupidest. He pushes himself right up onto his feet and gives Peter a strange sort of look.)
Right, well. I'm gonna go shower.
no subject
[so many things pass over newt's face so quickly that peter really can't catch all of them, and then newt covers up his face so that ends that.]
Oh...kay...
[he's clearly confused about why newt is suddenly so...something something, but asking seems unwise so he just doesn't, staring at the other boy with one eyebrow raised before lying down on the couch.]
I'll be here, I guess.
