[Don't mind this jerk, he's been keeping to himself for several days, diligently learning as much as he can in private. Including how not to burn down a kitchen. But now, he's got an actual question for which using the network seems the fastest route to an answer.

I heard there was a clinic, here. If I'm going to be stuck here for a while...I might as well make myself useful. I'm a doctor - a surgeon. Who do I talk to about the clinic?

[World's worst beside manner, by the way]

Unrelated, but if anyone has suggestions for meals for someone who can't cook, I...

[his actual request is cut off by a loud thunk just off screen. Law turns to see what it is, and the twist of his head and shoulders tips the video feed just enough to let everyone see what has just appeared in his living room. He sure didn't teleport that there, so...]

...what the hell??

Ah, well I am one of the clinic heads: Dr. Lee Rosen. I would be happy to meet with you if you'd like.

[After a moment he then adds]

As for the sudden appearance of furniture, I'm afraid thats sort of how things go here in the cave.

[Perhaps not the most satisfactory answer, but its true]

You can't really be too picky in Hadriel. Just be glad it doesn't explode or something of that nature.

[He half-smiles]

We are in need of anyone who has experience with wound treatment. We don't really have the facilities to allow for invasive surgery, but for the most part what we are dealing with are injuries that need cleaning and closing and being certain they don't become infected.

[He reaches up to push his glasses back into place on his nose]

Would you be able to meet me at the clinic in about 30 minutes?

What kinds of meals would you be looking for?

That shouldn't be a problem; cooking isn't so difficult once you've had a bit of practice.

You can find some small fish at the edges of the lake, although you'd have to cook a fair number of them to make a meal worthwhile. There may be more deeper in, but there may be monsters there as well. Someone went swimming in the lake a few weeks ago, and found the bones of some giant creature.

Has anyone pointed you toward the orchard, yet? You'll find fresher fruits and vegetables there than you would in the shops.

Is it too late to call dibs on the stool? 'cause it looks pretty nice.

[ Along with this message comes a map link, with a marker placed on the clinic's location. Pell looks excited in the video -- another real doctor means someone else to learn from. ]

I work at the clinic, and we could always use more help. If you come by now I can show you around?

Well I don't know if I can compete with that level of entertainment... we have coffee?

Then lets speak further then. I will see you there.

[Rosen is uncertain how this man could show him what else he claims he can do, but nothing was going to be settled over the phone so he is content to wait and see]

When you say 'can't cook', what exactly is your skill level?

[A lot of people say they can't cook, but they can still make scrambled eggs, and that's somewhere to start. He tips his head slightly to look at the odd chair in the rear of the frame.

Well, that's interesting.

Wonderful. My name's Pell, I'll be waiting out front.

[ And so he is, when Law comes by. He's on the small side and delicate looking in person, with a long braid trailing over his shoulder... he fiddles with the end of it as he leans against the side of the clinic, waiting, one foot propped up on the wall. Any excuse for some fresh air, really. Though he looks troubled, when he spots Law he perks back up, smiling. ]

Hey.

[ Very nearly a foot taller, then, but Pell doesn't seem intimidated as he looks up at the newcomer. Perhaps his comfort stems from the large pistol strapped to his hip?

He notices the bandages but says nothing for now, instead just offering a hand to shake hello. ]

It is. I didn't catch your name, Doctor...?

Not the best I've ever had, but I'd call it the most consistently worthwhile in the city.

The food available from the stores seems to prioritize longevity. There's a place for that, of course, but it does get dull at times. The orchard is your best bet for novelty and flavor, and what grows there does not seem to be governed by the movement of seasons.

If you've never cooked fish before, consider poaching them rather than baking or grilling. They dry out quickly unless you're careful, and with fish that small even a minute of two could make the difference.

[All the fantasy medieval elves probably took one look at the Twinkies and were very confused indeed.]

I think I know more lamb and mutton recipes than fish ones myself, but I have family who love fresh fish. I picked up a few tricks from them.

In peaceful times, healers do seem to get hung up on that sort of thing. I almost wish the ones I'm most acquainted with were, but we haven't had the luxury in some time.

[Of course, they haven't access to significant amounts of sugar in a long time either.]

I'd keep a stockpile of what you find most acceptable on hand, in case of an emergency. Has anyone told you of the time the city split in two a few months ago? There's always the possibility such a thing might occur again.
