As it seems this place has stripped me of my students, I have decided I ought to find another one, perhaps two.

[Probably one. He's not holding his breath here.]

Your condolences are appreciated, though it cannot be helped.

[A quiet sigh this time. Still hurts.]

Glyphcrafting is a form of magic from my world, often considered the easiest of the forms to learn. Instead of vocal or gestural commands, one writes glyphs and sigils, then activates the dictated spell by pouring their energy into the glyph.

Yeah, I... I k-know. I had someone important leave recently, too.

[It's been nearly a month since Sans disappeared, but it still feels fresh. Still feels raw.]

But, uhm, you s-said you were teaching that...? I already, uh. I mean, I have some magical, uhm, experience, but nothing like that.

[If only they knew they were both sad about Sans' disappearance. Despite his undead appearance and proclivity for procrastination, the jovial skeleton was a fair student, and one Carlisle rather liked.]

Magical experience, while not necessary, is still helpful to have when learning such a craft. Are you a caster of any sort?

[That's Sans. Always knew everyone. But maybe he'll catch on after her next, less-than-conspicuous sentence.]

Uh, kind of? I mean, uh, I'm a monster, so, magic comes naturally to us, but it's not like, regular f-fantasy type spellcasting or anything like that. I've also never been, uhm, especially good at it.

[And catch on he does.]

A monster? You mean like Sans?

Oh, uhm, y-yeah. He was... I mean, still is, one of my friends from back home.

[She remembers Sans saying he used to talk about her a lot, so her name might actually carry weight here.]

I'm Alphys. If you, uh, I mean I imagine you knew him, but if he ever, uh. T-Talked about me.

Ah, the er. Doctor. I recall him mentioning you a time or two during lessons.

[Sans comes from a strange world, that much is certain, but a doctor is a doctor, Carlisle supposes.]

You aren't a magical undead too, are you?

Yeah, t-that's me. And uhm, no, I'm... a lot of people have said I look more like a, uhm, lizard? Some people have said dragon, but I don't think I'm that, uh, big.

[All of this is pretty normal to her, honestly. Seeing all these humans is weirder than having some diversity around here.]

There is quite a difference between lizards and dragons, Doctor.

[Though if she can breathe fire, chances are her apparent nerves would make her potentially dangerous indeed.]

Well I know that. But p-people keep finding dragon for some reason.

[If she could breathe fire she'd likely be a lot more self assured than this, that's for sure.]

Would you prefer to be a dragon?

[A pause.]

I mean... it w-would be pretty cool, wouldn't it??

It would. Dragons do tend to be quite magical where I'm from.

[She lets out an excited little gasp, eyes going positively starry.]

You have dragons where you're from?? Like, r-real ones??

Very much so. I've never been fortunate enough to meet one -- or unfortunate, as the case may be -- but they do exist within my world.

That's amazing.

[Just like one of her Japanese animes!!]

Are there, uh, great adventurers too?? And magical transformations and animal companions????

I don't know about how magical one would consider some transformations [because lycanthropy sounds just terrible] but the other two, certainly. My uncles and my father were all adventurers.

[He has no idea what a rabbit hole this topic could be.]

[Trust me, she is not thinking about werewolves here. She is like, so far from werewolves.]

Ohmygod that's so c-cool-- did they have cool outfits, and, special magic, and-- I want to hear everything.

[There's a distinct hint of friendliness one won't often find in Carlisle's voice.]

I'd like that, actually. Perhaps we can talk about it over tea one day?

Yeah! That, uhm, sounds like fun. Do you wanna, uh, t-text me when you're free?

[Its a miracle she got on the phone at all here, but she's glad she did.]

And, uhm, I wouldn't want to take up too much space, but if you're still looking to, uh. Do the thing with glyphs. I bet it would be c-cool to see.

[And he means that, which is a real feat. Congrats, Alphys -- Carlisle has a better opinion of you than of most people, and he hasn't actually met you yet.

But she will, because he is absolutely going to call her at some point when he gets himself together.]
