[Normally, that's a personality type Ellie clashes with. But for whatever reason, this guy isn't pinging her irritating-as-hell radar. Even his application jab just makes her laugh again.]

Shut up, I can't ask questions through an application, dude. But yeah, that sounds good. I think I wanna try. It's so cool! Like I could have hidden super powers I never knew about!

[She doesn't enjoy the reminder that Sans is gone, so she drops that entirely.]

Er... yes, I suppose they are like hidden powers you wouldn't know about. One of my former students had a similar reaction, as magic is an unknown in her world.

... And it has just occurred to me that I never thought to ask her last name, though I'm sure she must have had one, and surely gave it to me at some point.

[Chris had a friend by that name, but Ellie never met her. She shrugs.]

Maybe. Maybe not. I don't ever use my last name. I wouldn't worry about it, dude. Doesn't make you less of a teacher.

In good news, I suppose the lack of a last name never hindered anyone in terms of magical potential, so whether or not you choose to use it is up to you. As for me, I will continue to use mine.

[Ellie rolls her eyes. Yeah, okay. Super convincing, dude. And then he makes her grin again. She rubs at her nose, fighting off a small burst of laughter.]

Okay, good for you. I don't really get the point of them. Geez, especially if they're not gonna give me extra magic powers!

What, have you never had pride in your family name?

[She frowns, and her reply is sharper than necessary.]

Nope. Never.

[Her mom was good. Wonderful. She's sure of it. She had to be. But Ellie never met her, and she doesn't even know her father's name. What's the point in feeling pride about something that never meant a thing to her, and never will?]
