How long you guys been together?

Ah. Well then! I'll pass along a good recommendation for you. [And that's quite a favor, coming from the normally impassive-seeming ice alien, especially considering he and Ellie have only conversed once before now. She seemed kind and genuine--two traits that very much appealed to Glacius.

Her second question gives him pause, and he has to spend some time recalling the various ways humans measure time.] Oh, ah--that is a good question. It has been quite awhile, now, hm... about eight months now, Makers. [That's no insignificant amount of time, even to a long-lived ice alien.] Normally considering how long I've been in this cave leaves me solemn and sorrowful, but this... this is something good to keep track of.

[She gives him a double thumbs up. Ellie is used to people not really doing favors for each other without the promise of reward, and this kind of thing still catches her by surprise more often than not.

In response to his answer, she whistles long and low.]

Wow! That's super great. I'm happy for you guys. [She means it, too, more genuinely than it perhaps sounds. There's something about people finding each other and holding on that makes Ellie really, really hopeful.]

[Glacius isn't entirely sure what a "dude" is, nor what that gesture she's making means, but they both seem to be done in a kindly manner so he smiles tentatively and tries to return the latter. The only problem is--he has not just two thumbs, but two thumbs on each hand. How many is the proper number to use, here? It seems to be the more the better, so the ice alien extends all four of his thumbs for a quadruple-thumbs up. Is he doing it right??]

Thank you. I agree, it is great. [It hasn't been without its difficulties, but then no relationship is, and they're fortunate enough that facing them has only built them up stronger in the past.] It's always good to have things you are thankful for in this cave.

[She blinks a couple times, totally caught by surprise, and then erupts into giggles. Ellie hopes it doesn't sound malicious, because she doesn't mean them that way at all.]

Fuck. That's the best thumbs up I've ever seen in my life. I'm crazy jealous.

[Ellie's expression grows softer and a little more solemn as she thinks about those words, and nods in response.]

Yeah. You go crazy if you try to go it alone.

[At first Glacius' features lift in what could only be construed as an alien smile, pleased that his silly attempt has at least brought this young human some amusement... but as Ellie grows more somber, so too does he. He lowers his hands and dips his head ever-so-slightly.] Spoken as someone who knows.

[It's not an attempt to pry--just a gentle, sympathetic statement.] Everyone here seems to have been through something in their life, but for one so young to have such experience... I am sorry. You have friends here, at least, I take it? To help you through things?

[She doesn't nod or acknowledge the statement in any way, leaving that entirely up in the air. But he's right, and Ellie is fairly sure he knows it.

When Glacius continues, she shrugs, and offers a half smile.]

Thanks dude, but it's cool. That's just how it is back home. And yeah, people have been good here. [When they're not disappearing on her.]

[Glacius doesn't necessarily buy into the assessment of whatever she's been through being "cool"--an expression he has learned is applied by humans to things that are neat or interesting-- but he has the sense and respect not to pry. Instead he smiles a little bit, the expression suddenly making him see worn, but glad.] Good, I'm glad. I'll be sure that my partner follows the trend, should you end up learning from him. And I am always available if you should need help with anything.

[He's not sure how much help he'll be, depending on the problem--humans can often be confounding to deal with--but he'll try his best. It's what he promised his friends he would keep on providing to this place.]
