[Like the last few posts that have occurred, this is also clearly in regards to the Null's latest announcement; however, Lance is trying a different tactic, because he's doing his best to avoid getting kicked out of seeing their list. So he's wording this very carefully, and that's purposefully obvious in his tone; it's also probably pretty obvious in how intent his stare is, and in how he's casually fiddling with his FBI badge in view of the screen.

He's really hoping the Null aren't too good with subtle body language, and that the people here aren't as generally bad at it as he's concerned they are.]

In light of recent occurrences, I'd like to remind everyone that I'm a psychologist, and I have an office in the clinic should anyone wish to speak confidentially. Additionally, although I prefer to work with individuals, group meetings are also possible.

[Aka the Clinic is available for anyone who wants to have private conversations about all of this going on, and Lance will be lurking there himself both to participate and keep watch on things.]

[He says it to everyone, very serious; he gets why this plan would be suggested, but not only is he morally not willing to go along with it, but--]

I've tried this before, with a serial killer whose means and motives we knew how to predict, and it still went extremely badly. Here we have very little idea who might be taking the Null up on their offer and how they will choose to do so, making it very difficult to control the situation to any extent.

But, I'm serious. You could do just about anything to me and I'd survive it. One of the few fringe benefits of being dead. I know it's a longshot, but it's one I can take.

You'd still suffer for it, George. That shouldn't all be put on you. Or you either, Kate. There has to be another way that doesn't involve self-sacrificing

( The look on her face is fire and thunder, determination that they do something more than sit around and hope no one gets killed. )

I am not about to be killed by any of the idiots here. ( That much she'd like to think is true. ) And we can't just sit around and do nothing.

[Lance frowns at George, still very serious.]

Dr. Rosen is right; I could tell you several horror stories of what can be survived by a human without any supernatural healing, let alone what you could live through.

[And as for Kate, he can see the need to take action, but--]

I understand, but rushing into things is not going to help either. Everything is very chaotic right now, and making it more so only gives anyone who wants to assist the Null more opportunity, not less.

[sort of hunches her shoulders in]

I know, but with any luck, they'd just shoot me or stab me a few times and they'd be done with it. I can play dead.

I don't like that caveat [Rosen's voice is hushed] When do we ever get that kind of luck here?

No one here is advocating we do nothing. [A look at Kate] What we are disagreeing about is what kind of action we should take. And I agree with Lance that some of this initial dust needs to settle first. We still don't have a clear picture of what we're dealing with. Just panic and some list that keeps growing by the minute.

[With a sigh he looks around the clinic]

What can we do as defensive measures in the meantime? Protecting the clinic?

( The long, loud exhale from Kate suffices as acceptance of their arguments. Sitting and waiting for a better solution itches at her skin, grates on her. She'd rather get something done before someone decides to go hunting for a more defenceless target or one of her friends. )

... We stash weapons. Have flammables nearby for self-defence. ( The cruder methods, certainly, but the last line of defence always is. ) Make sure someone who knows how to fight is around whenever possible. Using a full guard says we're affected by this hitlist.

( She's not letting the Null have that. Not after all of this. )

[He gives George a look, still disapproving--not at the sentiment of trying to help, but at the plan--although doesn't immediately comment again; Rosen has that covered for the moment, and Lance doesn't really want to break out the gory details anyway.

He nods a little at the discussion involving protecting the clinic, but that all seems easier said than done; not that they shouldn't try, but he has some additional concerns.]

Figuring out who is trustworthy is going to be an issue. I'm also hesitant to suggest everyone grabbing as many weapons as possible; there's just as much of a risk of someone being killed in believe self-defense due to paranoia as there is for it to be intentional murder.

[George still has the idea in mind, still percolating. but she's not going to press the issue

George tips her head to one side slightly]

You mean, someone could play sick and get in the clinic to try to nail one of us? Or were you thinking something else?

That's true. This has never really been the place for warm and fuzzy feeling and that fucking list is just gonna make matters worse.

That's all very true but it still remains a fact that we cannot risk leaving the clinic unguarded. We need to figure out what we can do for maximum security with minimum possibility for friendly fire.

[So he's torn between Kate's suggestion and the concerns raised by Lance and George]

Can we even assume that everyone on that list is trustworthy? Or would they have potentially included their own helpers in order to draw attention away from them?

[He shakes his head at himself]

It starts to become the metaphorical rabbit hole.

Got people I trust, but imagine they'd be too emotionally close to keep their cool. ( Sorry, Glay. She adores you, but she's also pretty sure that he'd be too vigilant in trying to keep them safe.

Anyway- )

Not saying we keep them in grabbing range for anyone. But it's stupid if we don't have something for the staff here. ( Considering how many of them have earned themselves a place on that list.

I don't think anyone would need to go through that much effort, but it is a possibility.

[He says it in regards to George's question; in reality his main concern is more than someone who seems willing and interested in helping protect people will just be using that as a ruse. But he also knows he's sometimes overly distrustful, and may have to rely on Kate and Rosen's judgement here.

The idea that some people on the list might be fake is an interesting one that he hadn't considered, but he thinks that's probably too complicated for the Null to pull off. He hopes so, anyway.

He doesn't disagree with Kate's next comments either, although he's still a little concerned.]

It might be best to figure out who among those who work here is either armed, capable of defending themselves without a weapon, or both. We may have enough people on the staff alone who can keep guard inside, at least.

Ugh. Let's hope no one's that fucked up, to go into a clinic and start shit. How many guns are in this place, anyway?

[George figures that the people on the list are mostly legit. it would be some real twisted thinking for the null to purposefully put one of their agents on the list. they're evil, but she doesn't think they have that level of creativity with their evil]

Well, I've gotta say that I'm useless at protecting myself. Matt's offered to show me some moves and I was gonna check out the armory with Abigail later, but right now? Best thing I can do is scream real loud.

I'll say for my part that I am neither trained to carry weapons nor do I carry any.

[Syringes don't technically count so he's not going to volunteer that at this juncture]

But I think Kate has a point about there being something available to the staff here, whether it be their own or something we keep hidden here.

[As for the number of guns, he'll leave that question for Kate or Lance, he has no clue.]

Both.

( She's reasonably sure everyone here knows that in some way, even if it's simply her insistence on a bagful of knives and the occasional longbow when she goes directly to practice with Henry. )

Can't tell you how many guns there are. Too many sources they could come from. ( She knows a few people with guns, especially after the paintball game, but that doesn't account for people who brought them in on their person or talked to Rage about it. )

I know several individuals who carry guns, whether those they brought in or ones they won during the paintball competition. Of clinic staff specifically, Dr. Brennan and Ellie both have guns that I know of for sure. And myself.

[He holds open one side of the unzipped hoodie he's wearing, revealing his gun in its holster on his belt, then drops it to hide it again.]

In total, I could make a list of those I know for sure, but it doubtlessly won't be all of them. It also wouldn't account for people who have supernatural abilities and therefore don't need weapons.

Okay. A list might help. And it's good that some people here have 'em. 'Cause I'm sure I don't need to bring up people just bringing a gun in and [mimes a gun with her hand] going at it. We're all from Earth, or versions of it, so we all know that it could happen.

[she rubs a hand against her face like she's exhausted]

Fuck, I must sound paranoid.

Don't worry about that, George. We all do.

[Rosen is trying to sound reassuring but he mostly comes off as tired.]

The matter of people with supernatural abilities is another thing we're going to have to figure out. Just keeping weapons around won't guard against some of the things people in this cave are capable of. Teleportation, transformation... We may want to ask ourselves if there are magic users we trust that might be willing to stand watch.

( Aren't you all glad she's here right now. Kate just sighs, eyes closing and opening to reveal a bright white glow.

She blinks, and they're back to normal. )

Can handle most powers.

( She is not just a nightlight, but also a power dampener. )

It's good to consider all possibilities, George.

[So sure, maybe a little paranoid, but they kind of all are. He's about to comment on the list thing, but then Kate does the eye-glowing and huh.]

Okay, well, that's... Good to know.

[He means it, he's just a little surprised.]

I guess so. I just wish we didn't have to consider such shitty ones. D'you know how many more people have been added to the list?

[yeah, that eye glowing? that's news to her. rather cool and reassuring news, but news]

That's--potentially really useful, yeah. Damn.

[George is impressed]

[Rosen had known that there was more to Kate than the average human but this is the first time he's seeing it firsthand. And it certainly makes him sit up straighter. It's both reassuring and a bit unnerving]

That's the first good thing I've heard today.

[A pause]

Is there anything we need to know about that Kate? Side effects? Exceptions?

[Then he turns to George]

Last I was able to see there were over 20 names on the list.

( You're all welcome. Kate pinches the bridge of her nose in the way she often does after finishing that display, the ringing of light still faint in the corners of her vision. ) Bunch of people from a million places. Could be useless on some.

( So far, she hasn't noticed it on many, other than Rey during the fire. ) Other than that... Have to touch people to nullify their powers.

( BUT ASIDE FROM THAT VERY CASUALLY SAID THING. )

Sounds like they're addin' anyone who so much as questions 'em.

( There's an audible darkness to Kate's tone, disgust she doesn't bother to hide. All too reminiscent of her old boss, really. )
