So, I can't be the only one who's been smacked in the face with culture shock, right? Or technology-shock, because a lot of the shit that's here I've never seen or heard of and have no idea how it works. I've figured out a couple of things through trial and error, but I'm not too proud to admit most of my reaction is still 'no fucking clue'. For those in the same boat, how long did it take you to adjust? What's the craziest discovery you've made? And for those that aren't, care to lend some advice? I'll pay you in drinks or other stuff; if you've the patience to endure all my questions, you've earned it.

I've said it elsewhere, but just repeating myself now: if you're on that hit list and not that great at defending yourself, let me know. I'm pretty damn good at that, and so is the large war dog at my side. [Said war dog lets out an eager bark.]

The Night's Watch's vows are--harsh. They're to give up their family name, swear to marry no woman or father any children, and stay a part of the Night's Watch until death. Add in the fact that the Watch is stationed in the far North which is bitterly cold even at the height of summer and I can understand why many consider it a poor option.

Perhaps a conscription method would work better for the Watch. It would have to be enforced by their Lord Commander, though, and the previous Lord abandoned his post.

Wow, harsh. Okay, that's kinda different. We have a job to do and it's for life, but we can still bang whoever we want. If you're fighting darkspawn day in and day out, you need something to take off the edge.

[It doesn't hurt that they're unlikely to have children after the Joining, either.]

Did he leave because of all that? 'Cause I seriously wouldn't blame him.

[Margaery laughs] Yes, I think that your method of being able to bang whoever you want is better. The Night's Watch believes that it's a distraction.

I've heard mixed reports as to why he left. Some say that his sworn brothers revolted and stabbed him to death. He was then brought back to life by a Red Witch and he left. Others say that it was to rid the North of the Boltons, a family that betrayed the Starks and took the North away from them.

...brought back to life? That's a thing that happens outside here? I always thought dead was dead.

So did I, but I admit there's much I don't know about Red Witches. We were always faithful followers of the Seven in King's Landing, not R'hllor.

Huh, none of that sounds familiar. Dwarves respect the Stone, but we don't worship her. The dominant religion on the surface is Andrastianism and they believe in just one god, the Maker. Witches are apostate mages that hide out in the Wilds, not religious types that go resurrecting people.

And none of yours sound familiar to me. Though, I suppose that's one of this place's charms: the opportunity to learn about other people and other worlds.
