So, I can't be the only one who's been smacked in the face with culture shock, right? Or technology-shock, because a lot of the shit that's here I've never seen or heard of and have no idea how it works. I've figured out a couple of things through trial and error, but I'm not too proud to admit most of my reaction is still 'no fucking clue'. For those in the same boat, how long did it take you to adjust? What's the craziest discovery you've made? And for those that aren't, care to lend some advice? I'll pay you in drinks or other stuff; if you've the patience to endure all my questions, you've earned it. 

I've said it elsewhere, but just repeating myself now: if you're on that hit list and not that great at defending yourself, let me know. I'm pretty damn good at that, and so is the large war dog at my side. [Said war dog lets out an eager bark.]

As long as you don't mind, sure. Given the crap that's going on, there's safety in numbers...and Barkspawn would absolutely be thrilled to have a four-legged playmate.

I've been doing the wash in the sink. Isn't running water amazing?? And running hot water, too! Barkspawn especially loves that water bowl in the bathroom, he'll play with that handle just to make more.

Of course we don't. We had so many people living here that are gone now that it's been overly-empty for months. I know that I'd appreciate the company.

[ Cole is vanished fairly often, after all. ]

That it is. The water, the heat... it's all incredible. I never really tire of the novelty. And, as you've said, it's apparently very fun for the dogs.

[ She's never been a huge dog person, but it's. Endearing to see Pup get his head stuck in the toilet. ]

Barkspawn still hates baths, but I'm hoping the novelty of running water will at least get him to calm the fuck down instead of instantly running off. He hates that little box that heats things up, though that might be because I ruined mine.

[Look, she didn't know how use the microwave so that it doesn't belch smoke, it's amazing there weren't flames everywhere.]

As long as you're sure, I'll claim a room for us. Let me see about finishing up here so that we're not reeking of smoke when we get there.

I've been here two months now and I've yet to fully adjust. I think the most amazing discovery I've made so far was the can opener.

Yes! They have it in the shop. How to describe it . . . it's like a little clamp with a turning knob and a blade on one side.

What are scooters?

Open-topped carriages for a single person which move themselves forward when one steps on a pedal. They are inferior to horses, but they possess the advantage of being made of metal, and having no will of their own. They are also named “mopeds” — you shall hear both used to refer to them.

Some things! I learned about a can opener, and the fact that those little holes in the wall have a better purpose than just zapping people.

My brother has been convinced that he no longer needs to take things apart to learn how they work - fortunately, he came here before us, and has been quite good at explaining.

Did that actually work? The taking things apart? I tried, but all I got were more questions.

Sometimes! It depends, I suppose, on what it is... or was. But my brother was... something of a tinkerer, in his youth. Certainly, I am fairly certain that there are things in our house here that did not look they way they did before Curufin and Celebrimbor got their hands on them! But we have always been a family of somewhat odd and exceptional talents, even from a people who enjoy learning new things. Between the two of them, I am fairly certain my brother and his son have torn apart and rebuilt every machine that is available to them here, excepting our communication devices.

I've been in situations with and without technology...I may be a little more adaptable than some, but it still takes getting used to, I agree.

Text was confusing to me, at first. Why do they arrange the letters in they way that they do? It's baffling.

[Just... put them in alphabetical order and have done with it! Even now, he is the slowest phone typer.]

You can also make these... tiny images... appear in text, that represent emotions, or so it seems. I still don't understand why they would be necessary.

It's taken a while to adjust. I still don't feel entirely comfortable with it, either.

So how many times did you get shocked by the holes in the walls?

No... at least I've gathered that's not the intention, as far as I can tell. They're meant to...evoke certain feelings. The whole thing is strange, if you asked me.

Only once. I know better than to return to try the same thing again. But it was still hard to get used to.
