How extraordinary! We don't have such things in Westeros. What does it sound like?

It sounds like a..it's hard to explain without comparing it to other instruments. It sounds beautiful, especially the classics. Classical music sounds kind of like this.

[She hums part of a sonata Hannibal taught her.]

But much bigger. More dramatic.

[Margaery listens attentively]

That sounds like it would be beautiful. In Westeros, we have the lute, the high harp, and singers. We have few other sources of music.

We had much more. Hannibal even played a theremin. That's an instrument that looks kind of like a box.

[She shows the size with her hands.]

And the theremin has an antenna. It's played without actually touching it.

Played without touching it? How does that work?

It kind of works like a radio signal. But I guess you didn't have radios either? There's two antennas on a theremin. One of them controls pitch and the other controls volume. How close you are to it, and how you move your hands changes the signals and makes different sounds.

Truly? [she laughs delightedly] That sounds like magic! We don't have any of those instruments here, do we?

No, I don't think so.

That's too bad. We should have more such things here. They would help fend of some of the boredom, if nothing else.

We really should. It could help distract people from the bad stuff too.

Absolutely. And we could have lessons for those who wanted to learn, dances when the students were adept enough. Do you dance?

No, I've never danced. What about you?

Oh, yes. It was expected that young ladies of Westeros learn dancing as well as either singing or the high harp.

Only the ladies?

Yes. They were considered maidenly arts necessary to secure a marriage. The men were expected to learn the sword and the bow along with military strategy.

Wouldn't learning to use a bow would be more useful than dance lessons for a marriage? Especially if someone wants to hunt food for themselves and their spouse to eat.

Women didn't traditionally go on hunts in Westeros. Now, I'm not saying it didn't happen but it was uncommon.

It still seems strange to me, having only one spouse learn to dance. Or if it was a marriage of two women, having no one know how to hunt.

Then again, hunting was a big part of my life growing up but most people didn't hunt. They just used grocery stores back home.

Women are only allowed to marry men in Westeros. [her voice takes on a bitter edge] It's against the Faith of the Seven for a man to lie with another man or a woman with a woman.

[her voice goes back to normal] What is a grocery store?

That sucks. Some religions were like that too, on my world. I never understood it.

A grocery store is a place that sells food.

Nor I. People love who they love or at the very least, are attracted to who they're attracted to. Why place restrictions on it?

Oh, like a marketplace!

Yeah. Life has enough restrictions already.
