[Kyna helpfully wiggles her fingers in a little wave. She's very clearly some kind of elf, with pointy ears and all.]

So, my magic's back, which is good, since a lot of things want to fucking kill us here. Anyway, I'm offering lessons or whatever. I'm an evocation wizard, which means I know a lot of spells that blow shit up, but I know defensive magic too, if that's your bag. No healing spells, though. Find a cleric for that.

Oh, yeah, this probably goes without saying but, you know, bloodthirsty assholes need not apply. If I've heard sketchy shit about you I'm not teaching you.

[She pauses for a moment, head tilting as she thinks.]

A scientist? What does that have to do with it?

[She pauses.]

Wait, he's a psychologist.

[Which is totally a science. Right?]

In our world, "magic" is a term used for phenomena that are not yet understood. That is evidently not the case in many other worlds. Given the various specializations in magical practice -- I have observed as much during my time here -- I must conclude that magic is a field all its own. Therefore, it is a science.

Yes. And I am a scientist.

Okay.

[Sure. Kyna doesn't really care about the specifications of magic—maybe it is a science, and maybe it isn't. She knows that's she's really, really good at it, and that's all the matters to her.]

So you're saying he's not one. Psychology doesn't count?

[Brennan actually pauses for a second there. Having lost Sweets back home, she is disinclined to be as aggressively against psychology as she used to be. (Also, and she will not admit it to anyone except perhaps Angela... and Sweets, okay, psychology has its merits.)

Hey. How about I teach you guys both a spell, and whoever learns it first gets to decide what psychology counts as.

I will learn it first, but even if I didn't -- which will not happen -- Dr. Sweets's word alone does not change the fact that psychology is a soft science.
