I've been stuck in my rooms for three days. I don't have words for how incredibly bored I am. I may well go mad.

So! In the interests of getting to know some of you better, let's chat. I have a question to start things off. What is one thing you wish people could know about you without you having to tell them?

For example, I wish I didn't have to explain that I am royalty. It's a bit awkward, and sounds like bragging, when really it's just the fact of who I was born to. So I'd choose that - or the fact that I prefer red wines to white. Then no one would ever have to worry about serving me the wrong thing. Actually, that one might be even more convenient.

What about you? At least some of you must be just as bored as me.

The Fade's a place that's the source of magic, where people go when they dream, and supposedly their souls pass through it when they die. It's also the home of spirits and demons. I dunno why dwarves can't usually access it, but honestly? It's a lot of trouble I'm happy to do without. I went there twice and...really not a fan.

When tradition is fucked-up and they stick with it anyway, even to the point where it's going to be their destruction in the end? 'Cause that's what's going to happen. [Fucking Orzammar. It could fall into the lava for all she cares, or at least that's how she'd feel if Rica and little Endrin weren't also a part of it.]

How interesting. We don't have the concept of the Fade at home, or I suppose the Fade itself, but we do have those who have magic and those who don't. There's never any real explanation for that, either.

People like to believe that somehow they will be the ones to avoid destruction. They'll delude themselves terribly to keep believing that.

Isn't that the truth. I take it you've some personal experience with that, too?

At least it sounds like a lot of magic brought in is pretty different. Maybe I could even learn magic from somewhere else, as long as it doesn't have the same type of connection.

Certainly. I've never had any affinity for magic, though all my family does. It's... frustrating.

Do you believe it's only that connection that's keeping you from learning? You could be right. Perhaps magic from different worlds is possible even for people like us.

It doesn't hurt to find out, right? It's not like we have anything but time to kill, while we're here. I can't do my job from home, so something has to fill that gap.

That's a good way of looking at it. One does eventually run out of things to fill their time with.

You said you were the Warden-Commander back home?

Yep, I was in charge of the Grey Wardens in the kingdom of Ferelden. Had my own keep and everything, though it's probably rubble now. Long story.

Long, perhaps, but it sounds fascinating. I'd love to hear the whole thing someday.
