I've been stuck in my rooms for three days. I don't have words for how incredibly bored I am. I may well go mad.

So! In the interests of getting to know some of you better, let's chat. I have a question to start things off. What is one thing you wish people could know about you without you having to tell them?

For example, I wish I didn't have to explain that I am royalty. It's a bit awkward, and sounds like bragging, when really it's just the fact of who I was born to. So I'd choose that - or the fact that I prefer red wines to white. Then no one would ever have to worry about serving me the wrong thing. Actually, that one might be even more convenient.

What about you? At least some of you must be just as bored as me.

Not havin' a name. People here seem to think that's weird, but it ain't a big deal back home. A name's an awful personal decision anyway. Don't really sit right with me when people make a fuss.

I'll try not to make a fuss, then, even if it is very interesting. Is there something that people call you? For example, if you were about to be attacked by a ravenous plant monster, what would I shout to get your attention?

As for me, I wish people would know that what I am isn't who I am. It seems to be a very common misconception.

You're right about that. It's too easy for people to look at what you are - what you were born as, whether that's as simple as status in life or something much more complicated - and believe that's all there is to you.

Not a one. And I wouldn't have anyone to play with if I did.

Don't your servants know what you prefer? Or are you referring to events and dinner parties elsewhere?

[Honestly, Seel would be embarrassed if a servant didn't know what he preferred. But, Seel was an ass.]

I don't think anyone quite understands the implications of a dinner party fiasco until someone's stabbed someone with a fork.

I realize I'm not actually answering your question, but did you happen to bring any of your servants with you?

[The actual reason is that he's new to phones and has a really hard time focusing the camera properly. Better to broadcast just his voice instead of video of the corner of his room or something.]

I can't very well expect other people's servants to know what I like - though of course, the best always do anyway.

[And Rhy is certainly not in the habit of demanding to be catered to, prince or not.]

Unfortunately I seem to have left all my servants at home. I've been fending for myself - and doing quite well, I must say.

How polite of you to ask. But no - not exactly. At least, I can tell you for certain that you'll never see me at the clinic.

I wish they'd understand that when I get scared sometimes - it's because of my past, not because of anything they did wrong.

I used to wish they'd know I'm nothing like my dad. People here are nicer to me than they were back home and most of them didn't know my dad, so that one's not an issue anymore.

I think people often find it easier to blame themselves than otherwise. After all, they can control their own behavior. Perhaps they hope that if it's because of something they did, that means it's also because of something that can be easily fixed.

I'm not bored. I have eight different projects going, and all of them require time, energy, and exacting skill. Maybe you could find something to do? What are your skills and specialties?

. . . Well, obviously, one of them is asking pertinent questions.

I'm not sure I'd dare answer that one, though! [ Chuckle. ]

Most of my skills and specialties require other people, which I'm woefully lacking thanks to being confined indoors. It was fine for the first day or so, but I really can't stand it much longer.

Was the question too personal, then?

Yeah, it does sound like bragging. Just like it'd be bragging for me to tell people that I'm Warden-Commander and Hero of Ferelden, blah blah blah. There's no reason for anyone else to care, is there? It doesn't carry over to this place. But I'll listen to bragging if I get to do the same; fair's fair.

I'd wish people knew that just because I'm a dwarf doesn't mean I'm like whatever version they know. I'm not just a shorter human, I'm not gold-crazy and I couldn't brew anything if my life depended on it.

Do you think so? To me, those sound like titles you earned - perhaps announcing them constantly would be bragging, but a simple statement is nowhere near. As for being royalty, that isn't something I earned, but rather something I was born to. To pretend that's not the case would be lying, and I don't see much point in that. Besides, I think it explains a lot. People understand better my sad lack of cooking skills once they know I've always had servants.

We don't have dwarves where I'm from. What are dwarves like, then?

Why would anyone need to know you're royalty? Sounds like that would make things more awkward, not less. Not that I'm going to start calling you 'your highness' or anything.

That would be frustrating. I'm sure they're only concerned because they care about you, but it's rather important to respect your abilities as well.

And as for that - well, it would be foolish to try and hide it. It's part of who I am, and keeping it a secret would only bring up more questions. It's much easier to be honest.
