If we're really gonna do this, it's gonna need to be all hands on deck. Getting materials, building, doing the math, programming something to relay data, finding a launch location... even just getting a test flight happening is gonna be a lot of hard work.

[ And after all that they mightn't even be able to leave the planet, let alone head home. But getting a communication satellite in place and a visual on the terrain would be helpful, and so would having somewhere to go beyond sitting on their asses here, so he can't not take the shot. ]
