Video 5 - Sewing Shop

Hello, everyone! I wanted to let you know that the Sewing Shop is open for business. Please stop by if you need your garments mended or if you need something new that you can't find in the shops. I know how hard it is to find things that fit properly there.

I'm also available to give sewing lessons should you wish to learn! It's a very useful skill to have, especially here where anything can happen.

[ He offers her the black mass draped over his arm -- when she holds it up she'll see it's a skintight suit of stretchy material, bulletproofed over vital areas. There are several cuts in the fabric, hastily stitched together and now coming undone. It could use proper reinforcement. ]

Think you could patch this up? And it'd be good to have a spare, if you've got fabric that stretches. I'm sure there's no kevlar here, but I really just need a barrier between my skin and my armor that won't bunch up.

[she takes the garment and holds it up. she makes note of the parts that seem to be made of a different material and sees the areas where it's been torn and had attempts at mending done to it]

Yes, I'm sure I can. I also have stretchy black fabric. I got it when I [her voice falters for a moment] had to make clothes for Matt. It probably won't be finished until next month, though. Is that acceptable?

[ Oh. Maybe she's not quite as steady as she seemed at first. Wash has a new appreciation for what she's going through, as well, even if he was far luckier. His girlfriend came back. Which he feels irrationally guilty about. He doesn't deserve to be the lucky one, and yet. It feels almost like his survivor's guilt, honestly.

He just nods, for now. ]

No rush on the spare, but can you make a pattern or something to work off of? I kind of need to be wearing this one in the meantime.

[no, she still has nights when she curls up around what used to be his pillow and tries to catch his scent. but why would he not deserve to be lucky? everyone deserves good things]

Yes, I can. [she gets out a piece of white chalk and the bolt of black, stretchy fabric and proceeds to make a pattern of what she'll need to do] I can start with the repairs to the one you have now, if that's fine with you.

[she bites her lip before responding]

I'm--well. They say that time heals all wounds, but they never said how much time was required.

Yeah, that'd be great. Thanks for doing this. I don't really have anything to trade you for it, though.

[ But he can listen. He nods a little... he's lost lots of people, over his lifetime. And actually knows exactly what she's dealing with right now, having lost Kyna for awhile there. It was only a few days, but he'd had no reason to think she wasn't gone for good. ]

It can be a long time, honestly. There was awhile for me where literally all my friends and family were dead. That's probably the lowest I've ever been, completely alone like that. I lost my mind for awhile.

[ He doesn't go into the other major factor in that, Epsilon... it's still true. The loss shut him down just as much as anything. ]

But you're not alone, and it does get better. You make other connections, and it gets easier to keep going. Even if you never really let go of the people you had, you can let the new ones in too.

And you're way stronger than I was. If they can get you to his world, you'll find him again.

Your company and kindness are enough.

[she lost nearly her entire family in one blow and she's about given up hope of her grandmother or Loras arriving here. she'd do anything to see them one more time, though]

I'm so sorry to hear that. You lost everyone? It's--it's completely understandable that you lost your mind after such a blow. How did you recover?

[because she forces herself to keep going because that's what she was taught how to do. even on days when she'd like nothing more than to lock herself in her room and wallow in her grief. she knows that Matt loved her strength, though, so she wants to honor him by not breaking down]

I've had to start over from scratch a time or two in my life. When I lost my first husband, when I was held prisoner by the Faith. It's not. . . easy, but I can do it.

Thank you for saying so. I'm determined that I'll get to go to his world. I won't let the gods stop me.

It's kind of a long, complicated story. My family was dead already and my unit fell apart, my friends scattered, one way or another they all died. After the breakdown I was mostly running on vengeance and spite. I didn't think I could believe in anyone again. I did a lot of terrible things and then... the same people I'd been making life hell for showed me kindness. Took me in. That's when I started to heal.

[ It's not easy to talk about, he doesn't tell just anyone this shit but he feels like Margaery could understand. He'd been broken, but with the Reds and Blues he'd put the pieces back together. ]

See? You're a badass. Everything you've survived already is just making you stronger now.

[she takes a moment to fully take in his story]

I know something of vengeance and spite. I've fallen victim to it and I've been made a victim of it. Living here has taught me much about kindness. Kindness can help put together even the most broken of lives. I'm glad someone was there to show it to you when you needed it most.

[she does understand. and she's good at keeping other people's secrets. she wouldn't betray his confidence to anyone]

I've never heard myself described as such before, but thank you for the compliment! And I have survived much, both here and in Westeros.

It's toxic, even when it's keeping you alive. And because of it I did things that they might never forgive me for... that I definitely don't forgive myself for. But being around them has made me a better person than I ever was, even before my life was ruined. Just because of that one moment of kindness that changed everything.

I still don't know why they did it, you know? I was a real piece of shit.

[ He shakes his head a little -- maybe someday he'll ask outright. ]

You're welcome. Badass is one of the highest compliments possible, where I'm from.

Forgiveness isn't earned. It's given freely. We can choose to accept it or choose not to. And it sounds as though their kindness towards you has done a great deal of good for you. Genuine kindness is a rare thing, I've found.

Perhaps they saw something in you that you didn't see yourself?

Yes, it seems that way. Where should I start? I suppose at the beginning is best. Most young ladies of Westeros are raised with the goal of attaining a suitable husband. I was raised with the goal of becoming queen.

Uh. Freckles is his rifle. It was a mantis assault droid that had more sentience than usual and got destroyed on capture, but its consciousness was spared. Caboose is prone to deadly accidents with his weapon so we installed Freckles to control it. He thinks of it as a pet, still. So I know it sounds weird, but if you could make the hat and then put a string on it or something? It'd make him really happy.

[ As for Tucker... ]

...of course he did. I'm sorry. He's a good guy, really, just kind of single minded around women. Especially beautiful ones. If you turn him down firmly he'll drop the perv routine.

[ He's also willing to scold Tucker for her, but she can handle herself just fine. ]

Yes. House Tyrell is one of the. . . newer Great Houses. We were installed as the lords of Highgarden after the last Gardiner king died fighting Aegon the Conqueror. Before then, the Tyrells served as stewards to the Gardiners. That was three hundred years ago. Most Great Houses can trace their family lines back for a thousand years.

Maybe like five or six inches across?

[ He makes a circle with his fingers to indicate what might be good. If it's too big it'll just keep falling off even tied with string. ]

If you ran into him when he first got here, that would've thrown him for a loop, yeah. I think he's managed to wrap his head around it now, though.

Yes, I would. That was where my training came in. For as long as I can remember, I've been trained up for becoming queen by any means necessary. Some of it was the sort of education that any young noblewoman would receive. Some of it was more. . . specialized.

He'll probably try again, yeah. Just shut it down right away and he'll ease up.

[ There are a few red flags in what she's telling him already, and Wash tilts his head curiously. ]
