Video 5 - Sewing Shop

[the video opens on the Sewing Shop, Margaery sitting in front of the camera with her legs crossed neatly at the knee and wearing this. there are three finished items on dress forms in the background and a small stack of bolts of fabric]

Hello, everyone! I wanted to let you know that the Sewing Shop is open for business. Please stop by if you need your garments mended or if you need something new that you can't find in the shops. I know how hard it is to find things that fit properly there.

I'm also available to give sewing lessons should you wish to learn! It's a very useful skill to have, especially here where anything can happen.

Hey, do you think you could help me mend this?

「He shows her his usual school jacket which has been torn harshly near the shoulder, big enough that his whole hand goes through it as he promptly shows.」

[ Margaery looks like she's doing a lot better -- Wash feels a little guilty he hasn't checked in on her for awhile, but didn't want their loneliness to feed off each other's and then he'd been. Busy. There's still a lot going on, but this seems like as good an opportunity as any to get back in touch. And his survival suit could use better patching than what he managed on his own. Maybe she could even make a spare? It wouldn't be the right materials but in a pinch he'd manage.

He doesn't reply to her post, instead opting to just show up. In plainclothes, obviously, since he can't really wear his armor without the suit he's about to give her. The little bell over the door chimes an announcement to his arrival as he peers into the shop. ]

Margaery?

[indeed, but the initial response will be chilly as she remembers that conversation when they were children]

Yes, that would be possible. Please stop by so I can get to work on it.

[that is a very big tear]

[well, she's an expert at keeping up appearances. she's been trained from birth to do so. the truth is that she still misses Matt every day, but can't let herself appear to fall apart. and she would be able to make a spare suit as well as mend what he already has.

she looks up when the door chimes and smiles at Wash]

Hello, Wash. How are you doing?

「Hmm.. Okay, he does feel that's quite an icy reply, but doesn't immediately think anything from it. Everybody is tired, he knows he is, slept most of the prior day after he returned with an orb and everything.

Tl;dr: he's the biggest dumb, cue little smirk.」

「Roughly fifteen minutes later he gets to the sewing shop, he knocks but lets himself in not wanting to distract Margaery from whatever she may be doing.」

Hey.

[ 'How are you doing?' shouldn't be a stumper, and yet he seems to falter at the question as he moves farther into the store, approaching her. If he's honest, the answer is sort of complicated. But he seems to realize he's taking too long to respond and just defaults to the polite response. She's probably just making small talk anyway, right? ]

...I'm okay. I could use your help if you've got time for a new project.

[one of Marg's weaknesses is that she tends to hold grudges, but since the main person she held a grudge against killed her, she considers it safe to continue doing so]

[she looks up from a bolt of teal fabric she'd unwrapped on one of the sewing tables]

Hello, Atem.

[no, she's honestly interested in how he's doing. she remembers his kindness, considers him a friend, and takes care of her friends]

I have time. I just finished the three things I had been working on, so I have time for something new. What did you have in mind?

[ He offers her the black mass draped over his arm -- when she holds it up she'll see it's a skintight suit of stretchy material, bulletproofed over vital areas. There are several cuts in the fabric, hastily stitched together and now coming undone. It could use proper reinforcement. ]

Think you could patch this up? And it'd be good to have a spare, if you've got fabric that stretches. I'm sure there's no kevlar here, but I really just need a barrier between my skin and my armor that won't bunch up.

[she takes the garment and holds it up. she makes note of the parts that seem to be made of a different material and sees the areas where it's been torn and had attempts at mending done to it]

Yes, I'm sure I can. I also have stretchy black fabric. I got it when I [her voice falters for a moment] had to make clothes for Matt. It probably won't be finished until next month, though. Is that acceptable?

[ Oh. Maybe she's not quite as steady as she seemed at first. Wash has a new appreciation for what she's going through, as well, even if he was far luckier. His girlfriend came back. Which he feels irrationally guilty about. He doesn't deserve to be the lucky one, and yet. It feels almost like his survivor's guilt, honestly.

He just nods, for now. ]

No rush on the spare, but can you make a pattern or something to work off of? I kind of need to be wearing this one in the meantime.

[ A short hesitation, then... ]

[no, she still has nights when she curls up around what used to be his pillow and tries to catch his scent. but why would he not deserve to be lucky? everyone deserves good things]

Yes, I can. [she gets out a piece of white chalk and the bolt of black, stretchy fabric and proceeds to make a pattern of what she'll need to do] I can start with the repairs to the one you have now, if that's fine with you.

[she bites her lip before responding]

I'm--well. They say that time heals all wounds, but they never said how much time was required.

[yes, she's not being rude, but she is being very businesslike. and yes, something definitely happened. has he no memories of it?

she picks it up and unfolds it to examine the tear]

You don't remember?

「He remembers many things! But he's more preoccupied with the present than with the past. Usually no one dared to talk much about those so-called events that he cannot imagine what she's thinking about.

There is a terrifying feeling that maybe he did forget something—it wouldn't be the first time and it's already setting off alarm bells inside his head.」

she remembers her time as a child perfectly and doesn't understand why he's acting like he doesn't.

she opens her mouth to respond, then closes it again, her training in maintain a façade warring with her desire to be frank with him. eventually, she opens her mouth to speak]

I'd like to learn. I--don't really have anything to offer in return, though. Unless you want something carved?

Yes. Remember, you'd asked for a new scarf a while back? [her voice breaks a little] Matt leaving pushed me back a bit, but it's ready.

I do. Planning to make something yourself?

That's great. [A pause.] We can hang out when I do and talk about Matt..or other stuff if you'd like.

Yeah, but not clothes. I want to make crutches for someone.

I would like to talk about him. . . and stuff, too.

Make crutches? That's very kind of you. It sounds like it might be complicated.

It's not hard. My dad taught me how in case we ever need to make them on a hunting trip.

Oh, I see! It sounds like a useful skill to have. I assume you're making them out of wood?

Yes. I know how to build with wood and it'll support his weight.
