So it's a bit of a delayed question, but a question nonetheless. )

How much do the gods here know about us? Does anyone know?

[........this question makes Kiran extremely uncomfortable. He's never considered the possibility that they could know things about him. Things he isn't proud of.

He'd normally wait to see what others say, but he REALLY wants to know the answer to this now, so he leaves a comment in hopes that it'll bring more attention to the question.]

I'd say not much. Hope was certainly surprised when I told him a few things about myself. But Hope is just one of the gods. They might not share information.

I think that they talk but they might not always share information. At least that's the way it is back home with my gods.

I doubt they know much about us at all, actually. They only need one thing from us, our emotions. They don't need to know anything about us individually to know how to set up situations that will evoke strong feeling from us. They don't even need to know much about us as tribes or species to know that survival situations will evoke fear; food, drink, or good dreams will evoke joy; setting us at odds with each other will evoke anger and violence; and injuring us will evoke sorrow and pain. They probably learned all that in the first months of Hadriel's existence, just by experimenting.

I don't think they can even determine who the emotions are coming from. I think it's all just an indistinguishable stream, to them.

But, then, how did my sister's knife get here?

( It's such an incredibly specific item, nothing like knowing the basic reactions he describes. )

I don't know. My cousin Fingon found a helmet from our world, and one of my knives turned up, too. I can't explain either. I can speculate, though. I think the Door retains some knowledge of where each individual comes from, and later on, it may be able to drag items associated with the person through the doorway. My best guess.

[ But he hadn't thought about that mystery before, actually, and it causes him a slight wave of uneasiness. ]

But when we are brought here to begin with, our clothing and sometimes our belongings come with us, or equipment that was near us at the time. How does the Door do that? How does it decide what to include? I have no idea. But maybe whatever process it uses, it can still use it long after the person has arrived.

So the gods may or may not know everything about us. It would be a little inconvenient if they did but that might mean that some of their powers are limited. [After all, Hope is not at his full power yet]

On the other hand, I guess if they did know everything, it would be pretty scary....[He goes quiet when he says this this.]

Yeah. I don't think we have a real answer. ( Not unless they ask the gods themselves, and there's no reason that said gods would have to be truthful about it. )

[The idea of anything that could actually be a god is unsettling enough without it knowing her thoughts or anything more about her than she tells it. She shrugs and tucks one side of her hair behind her ear, giving a small shake of her head.]

I don't think they can read our minds. I think they can just see everything we talk about here. If they feel like it, I guess.

I think... I hope you're right. ( It's a shame no one has a real, concrete answer on this, but it's been interesting to gather everyone's thoughts and opinions nonetheless. )
