[Even with Epsilon's warning, Carolina had been unprepared. Still is. She probably should have locked it up, but in reality, it hadn't crossed her mind.
Who Carolina was versus who she is now...]
Rooftop. An empty spot with your name on it, if you want it.
[ It doesn't count as hiding if he's technically where he said he'd be, right? Anyway, rooftop it is. A minute later he's dropping down beside her, squinting under the double suns. They're both gonna get some color up here. ]
[At least he can probably tan better than her. If anything, it's going to be lobster time for her. Not that she really cares too much about that.
There is a small tilt of her head in acknowledgment when he takes the seat, although she otherwise remains the same. Elbows resting on knees, chin on her steeped fingers, sweats and hair pushed back in a pony tail, gaze outward. Yet the question has her shifting her eyes from non-existent possible threats to Wash.
The expression is unreadable in her eyes, but she doesn't know what she's feeling anyway. There is no black and white, as much as she had once seen it that way. And Epsilon... That's going to be even messier.]
I think I should be asking you that.
[It's complicated for the both of them, for any number of reasons, but she's not going to let anything happen to him. To them. To any of them.]
I knew it was possible, obviously, but idea and reality are two different things.
[ It's not so much tanning as it is freckling more under a burn, but he doesn't particularly care either. That shit doesn't last. Wounds heal, scars fade. Not like his memory.
He's in an extremely awkward place now, and not just because Tex knows he erased her. Because of what she doesn't know, what Wash remembers. ]
I'm a little scared to actually see her. Not just if she wants to kick my ass, but... what if she looks like Allison?
[ Church doesn't actually look much like the Director, so it's a long shot, but possible. And something that'd probably be really difficult for Carolina, too. ]
It's not like I can just tell her what I've got crammed in my head.
She'd lost two parents that day when she was six years old, although it took her years to realize that fact. She'd been the sun that her father had circled around, and her death... As young as she had been, her father- the Director- had never been the same after.
There is a pursing of her lips, a hardness there. Epsilon doesn't look like- well, he has her eyes, if nothing else, and truthfully, she's okay with that. To wake up ever morning seeing his face... Yet there's so many things that could be said if she bears that face.
It is a long pause.]
I honestly don't know if it's better or worse if she does.
[The last time Carolina had seen her... The last day Tex probably thought that she was alive. So much has changed. They've changed.]
I never tried to understand her. I just- hated her.
[ Well, he's going to hope that she doesn't look like Allison. It seems like that's what would be better, to him. But then Carolina's shifting the topic slightly, and Wash isn't sure what to do with it. It falls in line with how he's not sure how much to tell Tex about his memories, how much Carolina should say about why she's changed. He leans over a little, bumping their shoulders together gently. ]
You're not that person anymore... neither of us are exactly what she remembers. I just hope she'll see that.
[The bump, although small, is enough to draw her away from those emotions that had been starting to build within her. That soft blink as she exhales lightly, face turning towards his own. Ghosts. So many ghosts. Ghosts of the past.
Epsilon had given her a swell of happiness, being able to see him again, even if he's not in the same state he was before. Texas... Is mixed. It's no where near the reaction that she's gotten from the others, at seeing them, but, it's also not as bad as she knows it could be.]
I get it. Fundamentally, I do. It's just- I know it might take time for her to get that. It's stepping out of time here, to see life has moved on without you, that things may have changed.
