Video 4 - George's room
[the video opens on George, sitting on the edge of her bed with her legs crossed. she looks curious, but also a little sheepish as what she's about to ask is . . . personal.
no, she's not asking for flirting advice again.
that was one time.
stop looking at her like that.
no, this time what she's asking is even weirder]
So, uh, I was kind of wondering. How many people here died before they came here? And how many are now immortal?
I was just. Wanting to know?

text (cw: suicide mention)
Ugly as hell, too.
They cause accidental deaths.
I had to reap people who died of accidents, murders, and suicides.

Sounds like your job isn't exactly a pleasant one. Did you die or does one born as a reaper?
text
Since I filled the other Reaper's quota, I got stuck with their job.
Did I mention I was only 18 at the time?
text
Eighteen doesn't sound too bad. It definitely could be worse.
text
It could, but I had to lie about my age to get a decent job.

There was my name, of course.
And my family.

Another Reaper. Her name was Daisy.
And she was an actress.
[too bad it's impossible to eye-roll via text 'cause she totally would]
text
But this means you weren't alone. You had your kind with you.
Re: text
Eventually, someone would notice that she never aged.
Daisy was annoying.
Mason was okay, though.
text
How long you've been like this?
text
I didn't ask. [because I didn't care goes unsent]
Almost a full year.
I think.
Time is screwy here.
text
It's no wonder she's confused and lost. That he can be sympathetic towards. ]
Your job doesn't sound pleasant one. But you seem to have family and community around you and that's important. You aren't alone and you have a purpose.
It's something.
text
but becoming a Reaper was tough. not only was she not given any time to mourn herself and adjust to her new circumstances, she was expected to do the job pretty much immediately after death. which meant confronting even more death with some serious unresolved issues about death in general]
I guess.
Betty, one of the other Reapers? She was my friend.
But now she's gone.
[there's a long pause, followed by]
I miss her.

Betty had been a Reaper for something like eighty years.
And I think she just got tired of waiting for that last job.
So she hitched a ride on someone else's afterlife.
Never heard from her since.
