Video 4 - George's room

[the video opens on George, sitting on the edge of her bed with her legs crossed. she looks curious, but also a little sheepish as what she's about to ask is . . . personal.

no, she's not asking for flirting advice again.

that was one time.

stop looking at her like that.

no, this time what she's asking is even weirder]

So, uh, I was kind of wondering. How many people here died before they came here? And how many are now immortal?

I was just. Wanting to know?

I died before my arrival. It was a necessary sacrifice, one I would gladly make again, if I had to. I'm not immortal by any stretch, but... I'd been revived several times before that final death.

[Not that he remembers all of it. Still, he knows it definitely happened, given how long he was in that war.]

[Oh, he definitely knows how weird it all sounds, even given the current situation they're stuck in.]

It's a long story, but I don't mind telling it. I was trapped alongside several others in an unending war. We would fight and die, only to be revived later when a new cycle of the battle began. The only way to end those cycles... was sacrificing myself alongside my allies in one final, permanent death.

It was because of how it happened. If we warriors killed one another, that death was only temporary until the next cycle, but if we were killed by the manikins, it was permanent.

I truly didn't expect to revive again, but instead I ended up here.

Ah, yes, of course, I should have explained. The manikins were terrible creations of our enemy, not truly alive yet having the appearance of life... They were made of some sort of crystal, resembling statues of each fighter involved in that war. They even had our battle skills. Their only purpose was to fight and kill.

Exactly. While it can be an advantage to know your enemy that well... the problem lies in how well they know you, and can match your strength with their own. Not to mention, there were endless copies of these manikins. It was all too easy to end up overwhelmed by them.

My thoughts exactly. It was cheating on the part of Chaos' forces. They certainly posed enough of their threat on their own, without this additional army of mindless statues. They just wanted to eliminate us all, for good. That was the true purpose of those manikins. I'm just glad we were able to save some of our warriors to live and fight in the next cycle.

I saved six warriors in total. It doesn't sound like much, but keep in mind that this was a small scale war, with a dozen or so warriors on each side, give or take. Hence why those extra manikin warriors were especially frustrating to deal with. The enemy truly had strength in numbers.

I never saw what came of it, but I'm hoping that's the case, that they not only lived to see another cycle, but that they also succeeded. They had a chance, though, you're right. That has to count for something.

I wish there were some way to find out the ultimate outcome of that war, if they did truly win. I guess the only way might be if someone arrived here... not that I would wish this situation on anyone, though. They deserve a break after all of that constant war.

I've gotten used to it. That doesn't make it any easier, of course, but... that's how it is. I've accepted it, as much as I can. I hope I'll see them again someday, though.

I wouldn't be so sure. They seem to be capable of bringing anyone here, from any world or point in time. Not that I'd wish for anyone to end up here, of course.

It seems that everyone ends up here entirely at random... but who knows. People from the same world have been here at once before. I had someone here from mine for a time.

It was... and it was far better than I realized at the time. I wish I'd made more of her time here, somehow.
