[ The video shook a little before finally landing on his face. Well, the profile of his face. Seth had turned it on without realizing then stepped away. He glanced back, catching something moving in his peripheral.
Shit.
[ A look of illumination graced his features and he stopped his approach to turn off the feed. Seth cleared his throat, his expression more accepting of their surrounding circumstance than his frustrated focus of seconds ago. What could he say? He was glad to have a speaking voice again. Might as well put it to use. ]
If there's somethin' that getting sucked from one mess to another's taught me, it's that nothin' lasts forever. All this shit's temporary... I couldn't talk soon after ending up here. My better half couldn't hear. And some of you got acquainted with the pain in the ass who lives with us, Leo. --Who by the way, can't exactly help what he is and didn't fuckin' ask to be made but still lives buy a code. But I digress...
[ Seth sat back after the brief introduction of sorts. ]
I'm Seth. Seth Gecko. You've already met Leo on here. As my Bonnie once called him, 'a walkin'-talkin' after shave commercial' who sang for you. Margo hasn't graced you all with an appearance yet but that's probably thanks to the roller coaster we've been through since arriving. She'll no doubt talk about magic when she does. Me? Well, I'm just a run of the mill guy from Kansas City. No powers, though not too bad with a piece.
[ He leaned forward and pulled out a gun tucked at the small of his back, brought it to view then returned it. ]
So if I haven't bored you all to hell yet, maybe some of who's left can enlighten me on what life's been like here? It seems the breaking up into islands is something new. Before ending up here, the three of us were at a place in France--or at least, it seemed French--that nobody could make a sound or chance gettin' torn apart by monsters.
Anybody sharin' insight about life here, you've earned yourself some manual labor. Or anythin' else I can come up with.
[ He offered an expectant look at the end. Not quite a smile, but a signature move when trying to get something without the means to obtain it otherwise. ]
Shit.

[ Granted, Seth hadn't faced off alone but he wasn't in Hadriel alone either. ]
And she sent a bunch of demons to do her bidding, including possessing people I care about. We sent her back to hell after killin' them all.
[ His tone transitioned from spouting fact to showing some empathy. ]
Don't get me wrong, I'm not tryin' to downplay what you just told me. Just lettin' you know I'm no rookie.
But I gotta ask... You mind sharin' how this murder happened?
(cw: rape, incest, underage)
So you've been up against some gnarly shit. Good. It'll help. Not just with the demon, but with adjusting to life here.
Neither am I. I dealt with a demon who was possessing my father starting when I was ten. I'm sure you can guess what a demon would want from a ten year old girl. Eventually, it decided that it wanted to be me. [she holds up her hand, wearing a ring] This kept it from being able to and so it made my father kill me. And it kept this demon from being able to kill me when it tried.
I wasn't there when it happened. I just know that the lady who runs the Sewing Shop was the one killed. The demon was sloppy when it came up to cleaning up its mess, so when I stopped by, I found blood splatters.

To Seth, that was unforgivable. He wouldn't even tolerate disrespecting a woman and threw many a punches when a guy got handsy or rude. He looked ready to hit something as Laura explained, his face falling when she mentioned her father killing her. Maybe she meant 'attempted' to kill her?
A moment passed before he uttered anything in reply. ]
That... I get why you sounded off the way you did, about this demon--with what you went through. It's fucked. There's no other way to say it.
[ There might not have been an apology in his words but there was in his tone and expression. Seth took a breath and continued. ]
What you described makes me think we should figure out what we're up against. I'll have back up. Leo isn't the type to take lives without bein' provoked and he actually needs souls to survive. Sinners, to be exact. Which me and the missus are definitely livin' in sin and he's never tried to eat us once.
Are you thinkin' this demon had to do anything with what happened to you as a kid?
no subject
and no. her father killed her. not BOB, the demon, but her own father. he stabbed Laura to death, wrapped her in plastic, and dumped the body in the river.
she nods] It feels like we're bound together. And that I've failed somehow when it kills, when it convinces another person that it's harmless. It's not. It never will be. It's not in its nature.
[she gets the apology. most people tend to treat her like she's crazy when she tries to warn them of the demon's true nature]
He'll have plenty to choose from here. Did you know that we're all brought here 'cause we're evil and chaotic? That's what I've heard, anyway. And you're lucky to have someone here.
...no. But after everything, I can't just stand by and do nothing.
And, I have a--a request.

[ Seth swallowed visibly, not wanting to freak out Laura more but feeling compelled to be honest with her the way he felt she was being with him. He didn't expect to convert her with a conversation but he also felt a duty to the demon he adopted. ]
I'd like to take the chance and see if he can make a meal out of Caedra. Or maybe we find out she's not as bad as you think. I mean, you said it yourself; nobody actually saw what happened.
[ He stopped trying to convince her, knowing how much he hated to be pushed. ]
What's that?
no subject
[because Laura's done some hardcore sinning in her time. she hopes that her ring would protect her, but she has no way of knowing that without testing it out in person]
You could always ask the woman he killed. I think her name's Margaery. But me? I'm hoping your friend eats the demon and gets rid of it for good.
[she can't be convinced that any demon is okay. her opinion is that all demons must be stopped. preferably killed]
I go with you when you teach the demon how to use a gun. I'm good with a bow and I know she can't kill me. If things get bad, I can at least buy you some time.
no subject
[ She seemed to have interest in Seth's adopted monster brother so he added a little more to his answer. ]
Think you can have Margaery contact me? Her side of things might help facin' off with it.
[ He made a confused face at what she suggest and divulged. The demon couldn't kill her? ]
You sure about that? --It not bein' able to hurt you?
no subject
[she's definitely interested. and afraid she'll be turned into a snack, but she's interested]
I don't know her and the shop's on another island than I am. I guess I can try messaging her? Do you have your phone set up so you can take messages?
[no. it tried and it missed. it tried again and it missed again]
I'm positive. BOB couldn't kill me or possess me and this demon can't kill me, either.
no subject
[ Seth left the subject there, not wanting to chance saying something that Leo might not want to share. He would help his adopted sibling stay alive if it meant being made a meal rather than someone less deserving. ]
You're askin' the wrong person. I'm lucky I could figure out how to send this message out. ...Maybe I'll send another one askin' for her. I just won't know how to make it private again. Somethin' we can maybe do when we meet up?
(cw: prostitution, drug mention)
[in her time, Laura's been a prostitute, a cocaine addict, and she forced her boyfriend to sell coke if he wanted to stay with her]
That's fine. Just don't share with the demon how to do it. I'd like to keep an eye on her, as best as I can.
no subject
My lips are sealed. ...How soon can you get to the Orchard? East Island?
no subject
There's already a boat. I saw someone posting about it. I'll flag 'em down and it should be. . . an hour? Less, depending on where they are?
no subject
[ He might have already said to meet there but Seth didn't want to put all his cards on the table. ]
I'll hold off talking more with Caedra until we meet. ...It's Lauren, right?
[ Seth tried to confirm her name. ]
no subject
[brave. stupid in Laura's opinion, but brave]
Just--talk about the weather or something until I get there, okay? And it's Laura.
[nice try?]
no subject
It's somewhere open but still has places for cover if needed. Sure as hell don't want her knowing where I live.
[ Seth gave a nod. ]
Right. Laura. ...Look, I'll meet you first. Just name the spot--East Island preferably since I don't know anyone here to do me the favor.
no subject
[she considers a moment]
How about over by Love's Temple? It's easy enough to spot. I'll be hanging around outside it.
no subject
Love's Temple it is.
[ Close to home but he wouldn't utter a word on that or skip a beat in his demeanor to indicate anything. Seth decided to meet Laura alone then maybe call the cavalry to meet the professed demon. ]
no subject
See you there.
[and Laura makes her way to Love's Temple. she's easy enough to spot with her blonde hair, sweater set, plaid wool skirt, pennyloafers, and bow and arrows]
