Okay, I guess I'm a little overdue for this-

My name is Quentin Coldwater. I'm a magician. I used to teach at Brakebills, and for a while, I lived in Fillory. I've got a pretty good grounding in physics and mathematics, and interuniversal travel. Normally I would consider myself able to claw my way out of this shit, but no dice this time.

Is there anyone here who knows anything about any or all of the above?

What's the deal, what happens?

You know, when the liches up top do some fucked up shit and we all have to live with it. Usually involving feeling too many goddamn things. Like that dumbass stint where we all lost a hand or whatever last month, but it can be all sortsa mental, uh, fuckups.

[He's an animated talker and does a lot of gestures there, but he looks plenty mad about the subject matter.]

Is that an insult, or an alternate interpretation of the whole alien thing?

[Asks Quentin, who has played a fuckton of D&D in his time and knows full well what a lich is, and also is into precise magical taxonomy.]

No it's like, what they literally are. Listen, I dealt with this back home, it's some necromancy shit. They take the emotion and use it to sustain them and morph the world. If you're a decent lich you deal with your own shit, but if you go all power hungry you start taking it like a dick.

[To his own credit: pretty accurate to his lived experience with liches.]

No man, I know them. They're shitty.

I just don't think they pick specific emotions to eat though? Or are super up on interdimensional magic?

Or cooperation, for that matter.

I mean, pretty sure most can do like any emotion, but these are fuckin'. Turbo space liches or whatever, it's still the same thing.

[He's shaped the world with magic, he doesn't see why they couldn't figure out how to split the emotions that way.]

[Ugh, he's pinching the bridge of his nose.]

Is there advil here?

[Hey, he knows that face! It's the "I'm deeply disappointed and also in pain" face. His old boss used to make that all the time. He'll respond the same way he did then, with a little snicker.]

Just stick your head in the cold ass water, it'll probably do the same thing. And then when you've stopped feeling bad about it, you can start workin' on ways to stick it to 'em with the rest of us.
