001 [Video]
[For those who frequent the tops of the various climbable buildings in Hadriel, they might recognize that this broadcast is from the roof of one of them due to the angle; otherwise it's just a rapidly darkening cloudy sky for a backdrop, sun setting and rain clearly threatening to roll in at any time.
It's pretty, and that may or may not be the reason why Connor is out on a roof in the first place, but it's definitely not the point of this impromptu broadcast. He's just been wondering some things, and it's in his nature to actively search out answers rather than waiting for them to come to him, so he's decided to just go for it.]
Hello everyone; my name is Connor, and I just arrived a few days ago.
[Always good to start with introductions, and also to avoid saying exactly how many days or hours it's been since a given time when pretending to be human. He's getting a little better at this.]
I've been catching up on the situation at hand, and although the context is somewhat different, there are parallels to current events in my world that are difficult to ignore. Before I arrived, we were dealing with what might be the beginning of a civil war between humans and machines.
[He's trying to tread carefully, projecting enough genuine interest without sounding over-invested. He's just asking, after all, nothing more; there's definitely no personal reason why he wants to know.]
So I'm curious; I'm aware that what the Null have done is enough reason to be against them, but does what they are play any role in your feelings toward them?

audio;
[Also big surprise it started in Russia; there's a whole thing with Russian androids back home as well, though not as seemingly sinister.]
What were synthetics originally developed for, in your world?
audio; private
[Against her better judgment, she locks this conversation right here and now before she utters another word. While Rey doesn't try and hide what she is, there are some details she doesn't want any more public than it already is.]
Different developers and engineers had different ideas on what to use them for. My creators made me as part of a "pet project" before their benefactors found out. They were the ones who wanted to use my skills for a weapons program.
[She's hinted at it before, but she waits to see how he reacts.]
audio; private
What do you mean by 'weapons program'?
audio; private
[Okay, probably not. The details of what went down in her world are fairly specific.]
There were conflicts throughout the world. Threats of war over resources. Conspiracies and information leaks on countries that were pooling efforts into future invasions. [She has no doubt that those leaks might have had something to do with the GRIGORI, but humans can be just as clever as well.] The American government didn't want to spend billions in order to humor a couple of scientists' social experiment, or whatever they were doing. They wanted to put what they had to take an offensive approach, rather than waiting to be attacked.
audio; private
And so it became your job to deal with the threat? Were you given a choice?
audio; private
Of course not.
[For the most part, Rey wasn't even considered a living thing deserving of respect, let alone choice.]
audio; private
Do you have a choice now, here?
[He doesn't know how it might work in her world, if programming and directives might hold over; if a non-deviant android from his world arrived here, it would likely still be trying to carry out any existing orders because the change in location wouldn't have magically granted it the ability to makes its own choices. Is it the same for Rey? Or was it more a situational thing, where following orders was necessary for outside reasons more than internal ones? Or, possibly, does she have the freedom to choose now but wants to continue the mission?]
audio; private
Guess so. Not looking to wipe out all synthetic life within the city, if that's what you mean -- just the ones that prove to be a threat to it. Like the Null.
[It's a good thing she had problems of her own to tend to when Name first showed up, or Rey would have sought that thing out and disassembled it on sight.]
audio; private
[Or is it for threats in general?]
audio; private
Hell no. Most of the shitbirds here who like to stir the pot here aren't synthetic at all, and most of the ones who are either keep to themselves or do more good than the ones with an actual pulse.
[Which put Rey in a very awkward position for a while, given everything she had known before. It's still awkward, but she's figuring out how to get over it.]
audio; private
Still, he'd like to believe she's being honest, and might as well ask--]
Is there anyone I should be particularly concerned about causing problems?
audio; private
You mean anyone that isn't the Null or a non-synthetic? Definitely, but you'd do better to stay cautious of everyone if you're new. Sometimes the gods do shit to people that make them not act like themselves, and then you have to be concerned about nearly everyone.
audio; private
[He's not at all enthusiastic about the whole 'events' thing, and has been trying not to think too much about why it unsettles him so badly.
And he'd wanted a more specific answer than that, but he supposes he'll take it for now. He's already gotten away with a lot of questions, so no need to push his luck further.]
Thank you, for all your insight.
audio; private
Hey, no problem. Hope you got the answers you're looking for.
