Hey, everybody. I'm Newt, if you're new here. Welcome aboard, I guess. I've been studying the monsters coming in through the Door every month. Hope sort of messed up my plans and all given that he eliminated, like, the entire monster population a few months back, but the bestiary's ready for it's public debut now. So, uh, here!

[He attaches a file.]

I nixed all the monsters that were in the caves and crap before I got here. Didn't see the point in including 'em since my research was, uh, limited. They're gone now, anyway. Some quote-unquote extinct monsters are still on the list, but only if I was able to really spend some time with them. I haven't gotten down to the coliseum to check out the new arrivals yet, but everything else that's currently in town is on the list.

[He's... pretty sure? It'd be tough to miss anything these days, what with the islands and all.]

Anyway, if anyone has biology experience—I'm talking, like, hands-on lab work, people—I do my research down at the lab. I'm also never gonna turn down a, uh, fresh or well-preserved monster specimen. Living is cool if it's something that's, y'know... Manageable. Can fit in a bedroom, or I guess a now-empty paddock outside that I used to keep the death worms in. Nothing too deadly, okay? Thanks.

Do we have mockingjays around here too?

Haven't seen them or heard them, so I don't think so. But all the jabberjays are male... so something like that could happen if there's some female songbirds around.

Hey, do you think you could catch one for me? Or would you know how to catch one?

Oh. I forgot about that. [ it does sort of put a damper on cross-breeding birds.

she laughs at his question. ]

I haven't caught one since I was a kid. I could try.

Well, hey, if you caught one as a kid, I'm sure you'll be a pro at it now. I can help, too. Unless you think you've got it covered.

Why don't you come with me? Then you'll see them in their natural habitat. [ a pause. ] Well. Their unnatural habitat.

Not a bad idea. Your lab lessons are paying off, huh? When are you free?

I've a good teacher.[ a weird one, but a good one. ]

How about this evening? They'll be awake doing bird stuff until it's completely dark.

[And so marks the first time in history probably that Newt has ever been called a good teacher.]

Bird stuff, hah. Yeah, that works for me. Where do you want to meet?

[ yeah ! bird stuff! whatever it is birds do with their day. ]

By the houses. I heard some over there the other day, I think they're roosting on some of them and scavenging in the area.
