[Along with the shift in terrain comes a transmission, one hitting the network within minutes of the move.]

This is Nick Valentine. Guard, report in with your whereabouts and what you're seeing on your end. Let's get this place scoped out as quick as we can. The sooner we know what we're dealing with on this planet, the better we can adjust.

[Last time, they ended up on completely separate islands, everything having been split in ways he hadn't expected. From what he can tell, things have been rearranged again, though the setup around the Speakeasy definitely rings familiar in the back of his mind.]

For anyone else looking to help, the Guard can always use extra hands. People who don't mind sweeping the streets every now and then, who'll keep an eye on the Colosseum once a month, who can handle themselves and protect others in an emergency. We're not the cops, but someone has to keep the city safe from whatever comes in with the new arrivals, and if that's up your alley, then give me a call.

Around the earth-houses.

[He means Delight's Housing.]

There's no light in the house, no water. I don't know if other houses are that way. It's getting colder, too -- a good thing it's not colder outside.

[The weather is like late summer in the North, and it's hardly ever so warm on the Wall.]

No power, huh? Given most of what we have runs off the gods, I can't say that's a good sign.

Back home I did a bit of guard duty myself for a while, so if you need the extra hands I'm more than happy to offer mine.

I've been flying over the area to make sure nothing's been left behind and we have two lakes. Both of them look pretty icy, though, so I wouldn't bet on being able to use them as a source of water.

Yeah, I'm the fella who wrote the guide, and if you're offering, we'll take what help we can get. Swing by the Guard headquarters later on so I can get you signed up, but for now, see if you can't make sure folks get indoors. If the power's out, no telling what else we're missing. Could be that Hope isn't keeping monsters out of the city anymore, either.

I can do that. And If it turns out there's a monster problem I have some handy abilities that're good for protecting people.

[He thought about the wildlife issue too. Always expecting the worst.]

I sure hope so. I was in my apartment taking a shower when we must have moved. The water stopped and all of the lights and heat went out. This could be really bad.

There are animals. Little animals, big animals. . . the big ones are weird. They look like someone mixed a bear and a woolly mammoth. I'm already phased, so I can get in closer if you want me to?

[It takes him a minute to remember what GPS is; it's something he seldom uses.]

See if anyone else says the same. If it's only my home, or these houses, it may not be much trouble.

Hey, I'm no good to anyone if I'm dead, right?

[That means 'yes', but he'll elaborate a bit.]

I'll spare you the details and keep it short; I'm what's called a biotic, which means I can generate and control dark energy to a degree. One of the things I can do is make a shield around myself and others. Good for dealing with an overwhelming number of enemies too.

[Just in case people get swarmed, he means.]

Annnnd ammo is probably going to be an issue for my guns, but I have a sword?

Grey Wardens primarily fight Darkspawn and keep them from being a threat to the populace. Over the past year, I've had to not only organize and lead an army against the Fifth Blight, led by the Archdemon with its own army of Darkspawn, but also solve two succession crises.

Maybe not. Looks like the scooters aren't working, either.

[Which means he'll be walking with that bum leg.]

We might have better luck trying to figure out what does work.

So long as you know how to use it.

[Swords seem pretty self-explanatory, but he's seen some of the folks Henry had to train.]

Save the ammo for now and stick with the rest. Let's hope anything wandering in the streets right now tends to be solitary, though I've gotta say that a shield like that sounds like it might come in handy against the Null if they find us here.

I have a horse. [Nick knows this, he thinks -- Jon used to ride the horse over to the Guard's base before the islands -- but others may not.] I don't want to say anyone can ride him; I don't want him mistreated. But if he's needed, he's here.

[Astute observation aside, he's glad she checked in. With the power and water missing, he was a bit worried some people might be, too.]

Any chance you're near one of the temples? Or the lake?

I'd take you up on that offer myself, but I can't say I ever learned to ride.

[Or at least the real Nick didn't. Horses weren't exactly common when there were nuclear-powered cars around.]

It's not always easy to sit a horse if you don't know how. I'd teach you, but --

[Is that even possible? Sometimes Valentine reminds Jon of what it would be like if a fareye and the winch cage at Castle Black were combined and turned into a person who can talk and think. If he fell from a horse, would he break? More or less easily than a human man?

Not something he wants to test.]

Tell me if there's a place you need me to go. Where I come from, it's like this on the cooler days of summer.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I can't hold one up forever but if they found us and we had to make a quick escape I could gather some people under a bubble shield and get to cover.

[He pauses briefly.]

These Null, from what I heard so far...they sound really similar to a synthetic race where I come from. The Geth. Right down to their networking together into a hive mind and going to war with those they were once coexisting with. I read up what I could on them since I got here, so pardon if I miss something, but...do we know how long the Null and these Gods played nice with each other up until they didn't? How they came to live together to begin with?

Hey, Nick. I'm going to go out and scout, I'll report back and I should be good for training and patrols for awhile, but uh.

[ The water and power are out, which has happened after moves before but not usually, and Drake's already tried to message Hope -- it failed. The gods aren't here with them. ]

It's cold, but not as dangerously so as I'd expected from what we'd been told. There also appears to be a lake, although it's frozen over.

[Which he wasn't here for initially, so he doesn't know it's a returning feature instead of a new one.]

Hey um, so, I sort of already do that kind of stuff on my own? Maybe you've seen me around, I'm the bouncy guy that sticks to walls. Anyway, lately I've been thinking that maybe I should, y'know, connect with the Guard and get on the same page with all you guys. Like just in case something goes down, you know?
