[Hey, it's one of the resident robots who happens to also be a walking crime lab, here with a very short announcement.]

Although I advise boiling it to avoid any potential biological contaminants, the lake water is drinkable in regards to any metal or chemical toxicity.

Like water. It was very cold, so that was more noticeable than any flavor.

[That sounds reasonable right? Nailed it. He's definitely not an android that can't taste.]

It was so cold that you didn't notice what it tasted like.

Well, as long as it won't kill us.

It won't kill you. At least not unless it has some sort of pathogen that can't be destroyed by boiling.

[Which is... Possible, he just doesn't think so. Not that his analysis system is set up for alien microbes or anything.]

Oh good that makes me feel much better.

The low risk of illness or poisoning is still vastly preferable to death by dehydration, isn't it?

[He knows what he'd choose if he were human; dehydration sounds like a bad way to go.]

I think that's debatable.

Since no one's going to force you drink lake water, you have free choice of your manner of potential death.

You wouldn't let me die, you like me too much. Everyone likes me too much.

[But that doesn't mean he likes you either!!! Although he kind of does, she's not totally wrong.]

But I'm not going to chase you around with boiled water if you're choosing not to drink it. You're on your own.

Any thoughts about anything else here being unusually deadly or poisonous?

I can accept that.

I presume most of the animals are edible, although it's possible they aren't. I haven't tried any of the vegetation.

[Since testing that is a lot trickier and he's not totally sure he can do it; he certainly wasn't built for it. The animals are totally out as far as the meat goes, though he could at least check their blood for heavy metals or toxins.]

There was someone stockpiling food before the move, though. You may want to speak with him, if you're not interested in taking risks.

I have some stuff stashed away. I just wonder what happens if things don't go as we'd planned here.

Do they normally go as planned?

Not really.

Then precedent in there for surviving it.

[He considers making up some cover story to say publicly so it isn't suspicious when he switches things to private without answering, but then decides he doesn't care. People can guess if they're that interested, but he doubts anyone will even notice.

I was meant to function as an on-site forensics laboratory, and so I can analyze the chemical makeup of liquid or powder samples.

What an intriguing function! One that will be of exceptional benefit to us. Have you disclosed it to Dr. Alphys?

I haven't yet. It hasn't seemed useful until now.

[Which has kind of bothered him, but he's glad to be able to do something useful.]

Did you analyze the ocean water at our previous location?

No, there didn't seem to be any particular reason to.

[And he was much more distracted with the view and feel of the ocean and honestly hadn't thought to sample it.]

I did use it to find the best locations for the orchard replanting, however.

[He was the source of the 'professional soil analysis' Rosie mentioned.]

[Oscar is about to argue against the notion, but then it is revealed that the android might have informed the site selection process for the restoration of the orchard.]

By my assessment, Mr. Connor, that is what is defined as 'useful'.

[Hm. Go with the simple lie, or make up a more convincing but perhaps too suspiciously explainy?

Simple is probably best, especially since it's very easy to lie in text.]

Yes. It hasn't had any adverse effects, so it's not overtly toxic and dehydration is a greater risk.

The shadowy shapes we can see through the ice? Not yet, although it's only a matter of time before someone attempts to eat one.

I really want to attempt to eat one, if I'm being honest.
Just out of curiosity.

I'm not sure curiosity is the best reason to kill and eat something.

[Just saying. Who knows how intelligent they might be? He's not against the people here eating them, exactly, he just thinks maybe it should be out of necessity.]

but people have done worse for stupider reasons
which, I know, isn't an excuse. just saying! I'm not planning to mess with them though considering I can't swim anyway

The last one was... desolate. There were no plants, we only had so much space.

They also experimented on us.

You're welcome. The ice is similarly safe, so if it's easier to transport portions of the ice cover rather than drilling through to liquid water, that's also an option.

More valuable information. The people of Hadriel who don't want to die of thirst appreciate it.
