I know things are rough right now, and that we're all preparing for - well, for war, maybe. And I don't want to diminish the importance of that, or the work that anyone is doing. We need to be ready for whatever happens.

But I think we've all been a little stressed lately, and there's nothing like a shitty work-life balance to kill productivity, you know? And - it may not be midsummer here, but it sure feels like it.

So. Two days from now, there will be an Ice Festival in the imported housing district, outside building 4-3. [ It's just her backyard. This is very professional, it's fine. ] Anyone is welcome. I only ask that everyone maintain a minimum level of civility. If you have a beef with someone, leave it at the door.

Food and entertainment will be provided, but if anyone knows any ice spells and would be willing to help out, please feel free to volunteer.

Of course not. It's more...interactive than that. Ice slides, ice fountains, the whole nine. I don't know if you've noticed, but it's hot out there. People need a break.

Fine, you've got my help with all of this. As long as we rebrand it. 'Ko and I aren't attaching our names to something as lame sounding as an Ice Festival. You gotta give it a little more pizzazz, babe! Draw the people in!

What does "ice festival" entail and how is it any different from a normal festival?

[Not that Rey has been to a "normal festival" before, but shh.]

[ Oh dear. Lup needling her is one thing, but now she's beginning to worry she really hadn't been clear enough in explaining what she has planned. What if no one gets it? What if no one shows up? ]

It's different because instead of entailing everyone just eating too many corndogs and ending up sunburned and miserable, this festival's actually cool and refreshing. My friends and I [ she hopes ] will use our ice magic to create fantastic ice sculptures, snocones, anything that will offer people a respite from the jungle heat.

Seems odd since we just came from an ice planet, but guess it is pretty hot for most people. [Not so much for someone who has total control over her own body temperature, but that's neither here nor there.] Could at least offer some drinks. We've got a surplus at the Speakeasy and haven't... ah, done the welcome nights the last few rounds.

Yes, I think most of us have already forgotten the ice planet.

[ Not literally, of course - but it's hard to really remember what it's like being too cold after a few weeks of it being too hot. ]

I suppose it's not a universal saying.

...I'm afraid I don't have any to bring. Actually...I've never tried it before. My Master was very strict.

It's not required. Just bring whatever you'd like to drink, if there's something in particular you want. Or just show up.

I remember your saying that the magic you wield is primarily for protection. Are you able to create ice?

Oh, yes. I specialze in protection, but my magic's not limited to that. Ice spells are fairly common among magic users in my world.

You'd think the memory would help, wouldn't you? That we'd be grateful just to be warm?

[ Sadly, that's not the way it works. She smiles, shaking her head. ]

I think I can manage, but if you'd like to help, I wouldn't say no. A little variety probably couldn't hurt.

Maybe. [Jo laughs quietly. Thinking of the oppressive heat of the desert planet hadn't helped on the ice planet.

She really misses the caves. They were perfect.]
