[video] as sun tzu once said, light 'em up

There are a bunch of new people around, so...hey, I'm Nate.

[ It's been a while since he posted to the network, but things are starting to get sticky - and not even in the comparatively fun, sweaty jungle way - around these parts and tension feels like it's ramping higher. Crackling in the air. It makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. He's not in the city, as evidenced by the dense, green foliage at his back. His sketchbook is out, open, but he's talking with both his hands. ]

I realize we're kind of running the gauntlet right now in terms of what's being thrown at us, and we're basically getting ready for an inevitable showdown, and there are already a lot of efforts being made toward preparing.

[ Sonya - a woman he doesn't know - was proposing escape routes and manageable cover strategies for civilian types. It's a good idea to have those routes mapped sooner rather than later. ]

But I've spent a lot of time since we got here getting to know this landscape, the topography. What I'm looking for are people with actual combat experience, whether that's strategic, logistical, or something similar. Fight's gonna come to us whether we want it to or not, and weaponizing the environment is one of the best chances we have at mitigating the risks. Guerrilla warfare isn't pretty, but we have the resources for it.

[ For a moment he looks distracted, thinking of something, writing it down and talking over the act as he does so. ]

So just, um. Call in if you've got the know-how. Thanks.

Those processors they keep near their centers--Rey called them 'cores'. And their limbs. The joints are weaker than the rest of them. Not much, I know.

[ He wishes he had more to offer, but the things he can do have been done. ]

Damn. [ Well, POE sounds disappointed. ]

...How bad was it?

[ Poe laughs faintly, in that 'new odds same as the old odds' kind of way. With bleak good humor: ]

What is it with the bad guys and putting craters in things, anyway?

[ He's probably going to die here. If they don't win, if Hope can't bring him back, he's going to stay dead. Never get home, never finish his own war. Never have a chance to be stardust amid familiar constellations.

But if he's going to die, then he's going to take as many of these Null with him as he can. If he can't beat the First Order, he can at least help fight something with the same goals. ]

It's funny. I don't regret coming here.

[ Poe rubs his face, muffling another soft laugh. ]

You and John.

[ God, he's tired. He shouldn't be this tired. He's had a whole year in Riverview, a relaxing one when compared to home. Another six in Hadriel, he realizes suddenly. Another six of living with the oppression of a situation that hits so close to home. Another six, filled with the victims of Null experiments and the influence of gods he barely understood, wringing people out emotionally every chance they got, dragging people into the danger zone so they could survive themselves. ]

Son of a bitch.

[ The tiredness doesn't disappear, not by any means, but something hot and angry rises up to at least push it back toward the dark. ]

Okay. All right. I'm good.

[ He's fine. He'll be fine. And maybe when this is all over... maybe he'll get to go home knowing sometimes these things work out. Maybe.

Maybe. ]

[ Live because the alternative is the enemy winning.

He can get behind that. ]

I'm sure. [ It sounds steadier this time.

He's trying. He is. The anger is still there, and he clings to it.

Live to shove one foot up the enemy's ass and save the other to kick the gods in the face. Poe knows which force he hates more, but it's a near thing at this point. He knows which one needs his primary attention, though, and maybe that's the more important thing.

A soft exhalation. ]
Let's fuck 'em up.

[ That's a slap, and it's one he needs. Kare and Snap and Jess still need him. The meager survivors on that ship, the people across his galaxy, they need every body that can stand between them and the First Order. Leia. Leia needs him. He needs to be the man she saw in him before all of this. ]

Yeah. Yeah. And--

[ Wait. ]

Kamikaze shit.

[ He's having one of those moments you have sometimes Nate, just. Just hold on, he'll get to the point. ]

Aerial defenses. Do we have anything remotely like aerial defenses? How did they come at you before?

Depends on how easy one would be to commandeer, I guess. There's got to be resources on board one of those things that we can use. Weapons, maybe.

[ He hums thoughtfully, the lead feeling around his heart lightening a little. He knows that won't last forever--he knows the heaviness will slink back in when he's not planning, not doing something. But if he can keep it at bay for a little while and be useful in the process, well. That's something. ]

We'd need a way to get on board, a subtle way, if we're going for theft instead of explosions. Even though I am a fan of explosions.

Lucky for me. [ There is a definite grin in his tone. ] Worried you're going to get left out?
