i'm aware i asked this a few months ago, but now i actually have materials to get started, so i'm asking again:
does anyone know how to sew? hand stitching, specifically. i now have really nice cotton (thank you, delight!!!) that we can make clothes with
right now, we have a bolt of white cotton fabric. if you want a different color, tell delight a happy memory, and she'll give us more fabric. but don't, like, dogpile her or anything. be nice, for fuck's sake
[Emily, who are you to talk about being nice...................]
if you're interested in sewing, meet me here: [and she attaches an image of a map with one of the shops circled]

omg amazing
And now this kid is here to do some sewing.
Kiiind of awkward, but whatever.]
Considering the only stitching I know how to do is for mending things, I'm not sure I'll have a leg to stand on to judge you. [She nods to the collection of needles, thread, and scissore on the table, all of them within reach of the bolt of fabric. The yardstick is closer to Emily, who has been attempting to sketch out patterns for a while now with moderate success.] Help yourself.

It's why Arya doesn't trust her. She nods cooly at the fabric. ]
I was never good at it. But I wish to be useful.
[ Arya beings to thread a needle. She handles the sharp object well, that's for sure. ]

Nobody will be able to tell. [Well, Emily will, but she won't fuss over it. There's only so much they can do here without machines.
It's obvious she's comfortable doing this,m. Emily envies that, but rather than be angry about it, she decides to learn fast and be at least as good.]
Who taught you how to sew?
no subject
Someone from home.
[ She says at last, shortly. She doesn't even look at Emily when she speaks. ]
Where did you learn?
[ Best to get the conversation away from herself. ]

My mom taught me how to mend things. All the rest, the theory and stuff, I learned from magazines and books and TV shows. You have to talk the talk if you want to work in any industry.
[Does Arya even come from a place with a fashion industry, though.]
I'm going to just guess that this isn't really a career option for most people back where you're from.

I don't think so. Ladies sew all the time, but I did not know you had to learn so much about it to do it in your world. In mine, it's just considered a gentle, ladylike activity. [ Arya grimaces. Disgusting. ]
But what's a magazine? Or a tee-vee? [ That's more interesting than sewing. ]

Most big-name designers I know of are men. You can, like, sew for yourself without knowing so much, but to do it as your job, you have to know a lot.
[Oh boy. Arya is from one of those old school as fuck worlds.]
A magazine is like a book, but the paper is shiny and everything is in color, and the covers are soft. TV is television. Mostly now they're flat screens, like our phones but way bigger. Actually, they're a lot like the videos we can post on the network, but they're usually telling a story or like, talking about shit that happened or will happen.
[That last part is admittedly a lot like the network, but still.]
Do they have theaters where you're from?
